  1. After reading a couple of threads on diet -related stuff... I have been googling away during lunch. Whilst everyone has a bias... and not one article should stand alone... I did enjoy the explanations in this article here... http://www.thepetcenter.com/imtop/contrast.html
  2. Spanner...residue = fibre, NOT carbohydrate, AFAIK. Carbohydrates are sugars..easily metabolised into energy. Fibre is not digestible, but passes thru the digestive tract. So, as I suggested, go do some more research on the fibre content of the many ingredients You are having a tough run.... hope you find a good solution. feeding a raw based diet would be HEAPS cheaper than premium foods.
  3. AFAIK, fresh meat has little fibre..maybe ask the vet if a raw diet..meat/egg/plus some dairy etc would be suitable? Some sort of fibre would be needed I guess to move things along..maybe a soluble one, which is a gel..and very gentle on the bowel wall? Miranda has posted the main info Do some research..look up residue/fibre content of different foods ...work out costs of raw V the modified dry...and see how things go. Sorry your dog is having so much trouble
  4. Yep..often I have seen a timid pup..maybe even a hand-shy one... and was told how it's breeder/owner must have abused it... I try to explain that ,like people, AFAIK, some pups are born sensitive/nervous/timid. Our current pup, Widget, is a case in point.... she has been very submissive and 'timid' since she could walk.... she certainly hadn't been smacked/or abused !! It's an interesting one.
  5. Hi..don't know about your pup, but ,when ours are teething ,they prefer stuff a bit easier to chew..like chicken franes/brisket bones ,,the pig's ears are a bit harsh on gums, methinks;) And..of course she stops when you stick your head outthe window She has what she wants..your attention! It's a horrible cycle..and I'm not really the one to help you...
  6. Slow and Steady:) You may want to try some of these ideas.... only suggestions..every pup/situation is different... Start off with the car door already open..car NOT running. sit on the passenger seat in the open doorway..have pup with you, and if he is relaxed, offer a treat.repeat,repeat. Next step..pup sits in car to eat his meals!! No sitting in car..no dinner Lots of praise... when he is comfortable with being in/around the car..then he gets in and door is closed..you are with him praising ONLY when he is calm..... then sit in the driveway and have the motor running...then drive up&down the driveway....etc etc. Only move to the next step when he is comfortable. You might also want to try some "rescue Remedy".. available at pharmacies.. a few drops before going near/in the car. hope he feels better soon, and enjoys his travel.
  7. takes too long to open on my dial-up... like flickr ....
  8. Hi..the product you're after is CETRIGEN.it is both an anti-bacterial and insect repellent. It is brilliant stuff...but beware..it is a BRIGHT pink/purple , and stains like billio!! Do not use inside your local horse feed/goods supplier should have it...some pharmacies in country areas also stock it. (pics of boris with a pink ear are mandatory )
  9. Oh... poor Boris . Did the vet say WHAT bacteria were involved? Hope the new drugs kill it off quickly !!

Oh, Horus, what a terrible day for you. So sorry. thinking of you.
  11. yeah, wags, that's all I can think of,too..but I have no experience with the type of camera or shooting mode.
  12. I'm just a newbie..only been in about two weeks I think their MAIN aim is to offer saleable works... they mention somewhere that they are not just an 'image sharing' site... so I guess if you have a couple up for sale , the rest you can mark "not for sale", yes There are some amaaaazing works to be found! being on dial-up it is a bit slow, but still heaps quicker than some other photo sites. let us know your username when you sign up!
  13. WOO HOO!!!!!!!!! Someone actually bought a print ) I am a very happy camper! I have put up a few new ones too
  14. just a thought..you said she is urinating more/marking... is she possibly coming in season? may be worth a check...IMO it will certainly make for interesting behaviour changes
  15. don't panic. Give her something like psyllium /metamucil..which turns to a nice buffering Gel  about a half teaspoon full of husks in her food If she chewed them up, there shouldn't be a problem..and I don't think she will bloat from a couple of chicken wings ... just watch her for the next day or so... you'll soon notice any difference. Friends have dogs who live on every cooked bone known to man They are disgustingly healthy and now around 9/10 yrs old!
  16. Oh Goldengirl... how terribly sad all round for your family..
  17. Oh..ear cleaning? easy, too.... whenever pup is on your knee or lying relaxed alongside you...play with her ears..lifting them up a little, running youir finger inside the flap...gradually working to sticking fingertip into the canal a tiny bit...this is to be done just as an affectionate patting thing...nothing special. If the pup wants attention...THIS is what she gets I do this with ours from tiny pups. Then, start wiping inside ear flap with a tissue dampened with WARM black tea don't make a big deal out of it..is it just something that you do everytime you have cuddle time with your pup..... Hamlet thinks having his teeth checked, ears cleaned and eyes looked at is THE most delightful attention he's given !! then it's a small step to gently wiping the very start of the canal with a damp tissue... and so on, until one day, you drop one or two drops (WARMED) ear cleaner in, and ever so caringly massage her ears until she is a happy girl See? Easy ( theory is a wonderful thing!!! )
  18. Outside..fill a bucket or garbage bin with warm water (depending on size of dog) . wet dog with either a sponge,or dipper..have shampoo mixed with about 700 ml warm water in a detergent squeeze-type bottle....squirt gently over dog to get started (this way you have one hand on the collar!) Lather up.....Use a jug for rinsing.... too easy! Dog is on concrete/grass..so doesn't panic at slippery surface/odd noises/spraying taps... I have done it this way, or just with the hose in Summer for many many years...
  19. More than likely the dog flea... but it could be a mild pain in the spine/tail... or something under the skin causing irritation....
  20. I have a S5600 Finepix (Fuji)..and am seriously considering getting this one for Christmas http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_c...ions/index.html I looked at DSLR's...but decided that I will go with this . 8 megapixels, 18X zoom..and super macro..plus no separate lenses to worry about.. uses aa batteries..and if it is as comfortable to use as my old workhorse, I will be in Heaven!! Not terribly expensive, either. Good luck with your choice here are a couple from the S5600..
  21. thanks..that is just up from our house
  22. Well.I kinda 'need' a new, more powerful camera. I love my finepix 5600 to bits, but with a few things in the pipeline, need a bit more 'oomph'. I have been looking at DSLR's...but wasn't comfortable with any..for various reasons. THEN.. I thought I'd wing by the Fuji site..and found this!! http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_c...ions/index.html 'only' 8 megapixels... but has a lens equivalent to a 27-486mm !! and a 'super macro' I think I have found my Christmas present anyone used one?
  23. Hi. I hope she is ok now... Yep..I would also suggest a back injury..... just on info presented, but obviously it's a guess . We have a dog who does this occasionally..she is in agony... warmth and total rest for a few of days ...then gradual exercise and she's ok again. If she is still in pain..find a different vet  Some are better at the muscle/bone diagnoses than others.
