  1. Hi....if you can afford it..find a friendly skin specialist, and see what their opinion is. You may want to also find a vet who does 'alternative ' treatments...my old Mitch had horrible skin...grass and food colouring allergies, etc. Injections of vitamin C helped a bit. Best of luck.
  2. Cause they LOVE it The worst is when they come back from being somehwere in a park etc, and you just KNOW the smell is NOT any 4 legged animal !!!!!!!!!! URK!!
  3. Which is why I will never have a deep chested breed again Lost Kieran to bloat/torsion... read up..and did the right things....soaked food, fed elevated, rested... then the day he died, he had scoffed no more than a mouthful of dry bikkies of the ground....that was all. Normally, after eating 'illicit' food, I used to make him vomit..but as the quantity was so small, I didn't worry Later, when the vet told me to make him vomit..and he couldn't......then I knew , and we went for our final car ride. I feel for your friend.
  4. Oh..you poor thing. What sort of puppy...and what age? Do you walk it before work? A tired puppy will sleep have you seen these toys? http://www.aussiedog.com.au/catalogue/c1
  5. sounds a good idea Acupuncture may help in sit's like this !
  6. Don't forget to sterilise/throw out brushes, combs, coats, blankets etc store away for the past few weeks, and collars. Spores will be dropped with hairs..so vacuum, clean vac bag/body and leave in sun, too. Hmm..just googled this ! http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_ringworm.html
  7. On Hamlet and the others with not heaps of undercoat..those $2 grooming mitts do a good job, with a human comb on the longer bits. They love it!!
  8. he doesn't know it's wrong, because he hasn't been taught that it iS wrong;) he needs to be told at the FIRST sign of roughness.EVERYTHING has to stop...the kids especially have to understand that how they behave affects the way the pup behaves! Each has to learn to react appropriately. have a read here...I have a lot of respect for Karen's trying to lessen the bites etc on kids. http://www.paw-rescue.org/PAW/PETTIPS/DogT...sSafeDogs_1.php
  9. Frank..there will probably be much better ideas than mine along soon...I would suggest that your daughter does some leash work with young Baley! Show her how to walk him around, and get him to sit, etc. yelling and shouting at a dog/pup is natural..but I see them interpreting it as you 'barking' and joining in!!! have him around her only on a long lead..and do NOT let her play with him, or talk to him unless he is sitting quietly, and she is approaching him calmly! As for your method of getting him submissive...while it may work..you would look a trifle ridiculous doing it whilst out walking ...and it does put you awfully near the pointy end, and possible danger. None of our dogs have ever attacked anyone...and we have never had to resort to the method you use.... May I also suggest he gets some tough interactive toys...kongs, and a soccer ball, for starters, so he can wear off some energy. That, and his 2 walks each day should help...he will be maybe be a bit less excitable. edit to say "snap, " kavik
  10. Hope she continues along the road now !
  11. we use milk arrowroot biscuit bits instead ....
  12. ours get them as part of their normal food
  13. Quick! if you are going to..get him desexed NOW, before he does learn Saves a lot of mess
  14. It is FUN!! Simple provide him with a small heavy bowl a bit higher than what he has. I have on occasion made a drinking container out of 2ltr juice bottle . scew lid on tight, and remove tag/handle. Place bottle on one of th flattter sides(front or back) With VERY sharp scissors..cut a smallish oval shape out of the upper side, so it looks a bit like a tissue-box opening . place it in a corner , maybe in a baking dish or something...fill with water, and see what happens . (NO guarantee he wont grab it & tip it over, but it should help with the digging ) My chooks get this sort of drinker too.
  15. Never had a shep puppy..but NO puppy 'should' have pasty or loose motions for so long. Is there another vet you can see? All puppies eat often..they need to. Just how much is actually absorbed depends a lot on the quality of the food given. be guided as to diet by experienced people here, and maybe another vet :p
  16. Our pups get bones anytime. Two 3 mth olds are eating everything at present...from chicken wings to rib bones to large leg bones, chicken carcase bits, rabbit frames.....I just hope I never fall over!! :p
  17. I put peanut butter on the little end..the a large piece of whatever meat is handy ( folded up, the unfolded, so it won't fall out. ) THEN soaked kibble or cream cheese, then plug big end with cheese or chicken bits :p Or...lots of bacon rind and bread......with yoghurt... soaked kibble and a bit of vegemite
  18. yep puppies are MEANT to chew bones  It is one of the few 'natural' things they can do in our modern world. So glad he enjoyed it!
  19. A non permanent run wou;ld be possible..just reinforcing mesh on all 6 sides....roof, floor and walls. That way it is impossible to escape from, and easy to dis-assemble and remove. this stuff....easy to construct a pen..add a few posts for stabilty, and put a kennel in....use . http://www.moladi.com/images/mesh.jpg
  20. Oops... looks like you really need a very secure dog run for him now :D he has fought this dog and knows he can win! He also knows he can escape , with a bit of work. I would not ever trust him alone in the yard again, if he were mine Poor you....you were trying to stop the inevitable.
  21. hello, and welcome ermmm you will only have a fussy eater if you play by HER rules! She is correct in not eating her weetbix and milk..she needs neither (vegemite toast is fine for a treat ) Of course she likes cooked steak! But... chicken necks, bones, meat/mince and a premium puppy food are much better for her. If she seems happy and bright... She will eat if she is hungry She will eat 'her' food if NONE other is offered (eventually) I'm sure you will get lots of help here enjoy your puppy! edit..Oops..I was typing as you were posting, Steve .. snap!
  22. what sort of fleas are they? The visble to the naked eye.hopping around on the dog ones... or the tiny little 'we stay in a group on one part of the dog" ones? The dog flea and the stick-fast, or rabbit flea often need different treatment plans!! What does your vet say? We have stick-fasts here..NEVER the big dog flea....so our treatments are a bit different.
  23. yep..my 'heart dog', mitchell passed away about 8 yrs ago, too....i still have his collar in my room.... and am crying now at the memories... thinking of you.
