  1. My Blue Heeler is on Royal Canin Hyperallergenic Prescription dry food with a little bit of Hills Science ZD mixed in. My Lab X is currently on Holistic Select. He goes through a 15kg odd bag every 6-8weeks and get's whatever premium dog food is on sale at the time. Previous bag was Wellness. He get's a bit of Natures Gift wet food mixed in. I also have some of the Vets All Natural Grain Mix stuff which they get every so often when I remember to make it up.
  2. I've come across videos on YouTube re: skinning the animals alive. I kick myself for watching them but for me it's important I know what is happening so I can try and inform others. What I did learn was that some "fake furs" are actually dog fur sourced from China. I now check and make sure any fur on clothes I’m looking at buying specifically states "Synthetic Fur". Humans do some disturbing things.
  3. As a previous owner of a beautiful horse that had to be put to sleep, there wasn't many choices for me to dispose of the body. Owners may very well be sending there horse (pleasure pony or racehorse) to the knackery as they simply have no other way to dispose of the horse. I had my horse euthanized via injection and then paid nearly $1000 to have it cremated. There was no way it was going to be butchered up at the knackery. For me I didn't have a third option, it was cremation or knackery. It's an awful industry, and i'm thankful that video of Natures Child wont load on my computer. Just the still pic makes me tear up. I did watch a different video a couple of weeks ago of Laverton Knackery - and it's horrid. Those poor, poor horses. No creature deserves to die so inhumanely.
  4. We use, and was recommended by our vet in Melbourne to use Comfortis. One of my dogs all of a sudden had a bad skin rash and the vet said he was allergic to fleas. Never had a flea problem but all of a sudden noticed both dogs covered in them. Gave Comfortis with dinner - dog with rash had no problems at all. Other dog with IB threw up everywhere and was very sad for the remainder of the night. Called Comfortis next day and they took all our details. Lady recommended i try again next month if i felt comfortable as they have found many dog's will throw up on the first dose but are fine thereafter. Well three more doses down and both dogs are fine - no more spew. Fortunately dog that threw up had it down for the minimum time to take effect which i think is an hour or so. I have no hesitation giving both dogs Comfortis now. Works a treat. If you have queries i would call the people at Comfortis (the distributor) they were very helpful when i called them.
  5. There is a pool at woofpurnay in narre warren. I think it's $10 a visit or ten visits for $80.
  6. My local vet changed to Greencross 2 years ago. I stopped going there 12 months ago.
  7. My naughty cat brought a (live) bat home this morning. Talk about a traumatic experiance (for me). Managed to get the little bat into a container, take it out the front and thankfully it flew away. I completely forgot about the risks but because i was a wimp didn't go anywhere near it or touch it. I'm a little worried about what affect (if any) it might have with the cat and/or dogs. All i can find is "low risk". Spoke to the Vet and DSE as well. Cat is now getting locked in the bathroom overnight. She is always bringing me home presents.
  8. My dogs get breakfast around 3-4am and I would normally walk them anywhere from 8am onwards. They get dinner at around 6pm. I never walk them after dinner and if they do go out in the arvo I push dinner time back. No exercise two hours before or after a meal as I'm paranoid about bloat.
  9. I give both my blue heeler x's valueheart.
  10. Both the horse and the dog are both in nice wooden boxes on the bookcase in the loungeroom. The horse is actually in a wooden box and four matching black tins (as he didn't fit in the one box).
  11. I've seen these before and think they are a terrible idea. I don't have a smartphone and would be of no help to a lost dog on the street with just this tag on. They should have the barcode and a phone number for those with old phones.
  12. Both my dogs love cat crunchies from the garden. The smell when they burp it up in your face, yum yum.
  13. My Heeler is on RC Hyperallergenic for breakfast and lunch and she gets the same for dinner but with Hills ZD wet food and Lactose Free Yoghurt. My other Heeler X is currently on Wellness dry food with either Natures Gift or some other wet dog food mixed in. He also gets yoghurt. Why? One dog has irritable bowel and the other gets whatever premium dog food is on sale. I also have half a huge bag of Vets all natural which I may start to use again. I go through stages of raw vs dry. I get lazy sometimes. No treats anymore because of problem dog.
  14. Hi Erny I've ordered the two tests for my dog and was just wondering if you could please share who you use to send the sample back to the USA.
  15. My dog was vomiting blood and had bloody stools for a good nine months. After lot's and lot's of tests she has now been diagnosed with severe irritable bowel. Her vomit never had food in it - just white bile scattered with blood spots. edited to say the vomit and bloody stools were always sporatic. Somestimes days inbetween, sometimes weeks. Blood test and ultrasound confirmed it.
  16. A small win, the PP at Fountain Gate has/is closing. They only have clearance stock - all animals are gone.
  17. I said it. Why isn't overnight "really long enough"? How long should one ponder about it? I love my dog to bits and i definately don't regret the decision i made that day. Stop assuming ALL people are ignorant fools when it comes to purchasing an animal. As for the RSPCA screening process, well thanks very much. They gave me a dog.
  18. I/D is a different product to L/D. Call your vet Jans to find out if there is a suitable alternative to L/D I realize that. I didn't notice the original message was a lowercase L.
  19. I could be mistaken but i'm sure i've seen I/D somewhere over the last couple of weeks. I've been at Ultimate Vet Clinic in Narre Warren, Best Friends Cranbourne and Woofpurnay. I was specifically in the prescription food area as my dog is on the RC Hyperallergenic. Maybe give those two stores a call or try Hill's direct? Good luck.
  20. Exactly. When i got my RSPCA dog six years ago i could have easily taken home more than one if i had the room and funds. Dogs in shelters tug on my heart strings more than dogs at Pet Shops. As for the process i wasn't allowed to take Kobi home the day i picked him. I had to go home and think about it overnight before they would let me buy him. The Fountain Gate Pet Barn sell dogs (partnered with Lort Smith). I actually rarely see dog's in the pens there - maybe every second or third visit. The pens are spacious and always clean.
  21. I'm pretty sure Roo started this whole process. We started vomiting blood the day after i introduced roo meat. My vet told me even though it was human grade (from woolies) that it can sometimes be full of red dye and yes it is a "strong" meat.
  22. Are you feeding the Hills kibble? If you are then you can make 'biscuits'. Crush the kibble and then add some liquid (eggs if they are ok). Make into biscuit shapes and then cook in a fry pan. Great tip. I'm going to give it a go.
  23. I only add the cans again to try and slow my dog down. She also eats out of a go slow bowl. She is currently on a high dose of anti inflams which makes her eat like mad and drink liters of water a day. Once she settles I may stop with the cans. It smells pretty bad and is very wet. Molly is a blue heeler so I got the 15kg bag of RC hence the price. Thanks for clarifying the protein part. Are you going back to the vet to discuss the next step? I'll let you know what mine says when I go back. I'm glad I know what was making her sick but never thought treating it would be so stressful.
  24. Hi Stitch I'll be watching your thread with interest as my girl Molly has just been officially diagnosed with severe IBD. We have been throwing up blood on and off since Jan and then went to bloody poo's a month ago. My poor dog has had her stomach scoped, been on all types of medication and FINALLY i decided to switch vets and within the last three weeks had blood tests and an ultrasound to confirm the ibd. My girl is on the RC Hyperallergenic and i'm also mixing in a small amount of the ZD tins. I've JUST in the last couple of days had to put her on soy yoghurt as well as she is ravanous due to the medication she is on. I have to slow her eating down. She gets half a cup to three quarters of a cup of RC 3-4 times a day I go back to the vet in a weeks time to discuss elimination diets. Problem is my guys have been on a very varied diet - doesn't leave me much to try that she hasn't been on. Her poo's are back to normal and i've had no vomit so the RC is working but gee whiz at $200 (near) a bag i'm hoping i can find something else. I don't understand the principles of an elimination diet. The vet told me you can't feed her anything she has already eaten - but surely not EVERYTHING i've ever fed her made her sick? Damn dog. Good luck.
