  1. You could buy one for use on the dog/s only. I got a digital one for mine and it was only about $10.
  2. Sorry for your loss persephone. Must have been a hard and heartbreaking issue to deal with. RIP Pat.
  3. My Labrador has pancreatitis for the first time (and I hope only time) a few months ago so you have my sympathy. She was in hospital for 3 days on a drip and given anti-biotics. After she came out initially she was put on Hills id prescription diet. Later I moved her onto cooked chicken breast with all the fat removed. Now she is on cooked kangaroo meat that is very lean. In her case the pancreatitis was most likely caused if not exacerbated by long-term prednisolone she had been on for an allergic skin condition. But that's another story. I hope your dog is much better soon, its very upsetting to see them with pancreatitis. My girl has made a good recovery but like TangerineDream mentioned I will have to stay forever watchful with her diet.
  4. I'm sorry for your loss ridgeback-lover. My thoughts are with you and Bella.
  5. The Heritage Veterinary Clinic are in Sydney Rd Coburg. I've found them good. The card I have here for the clinic says Dr Rob Krelle and Associates, they charge very reasonable rates.
  6. Rather than start a new thread I thought it might be better to add to this one. I've been advised to put my dogs onto a kangaroo, potato and pumpkin diet (by a vet skin specialist) as another attempt to investigate what is causing (or to rule out the cause) some allergy symptoms which are particularly bad for one of my dogs (both Labradors). I'm trying to find a good source of kangaroo meat in Melbourne. They used to have it at Vic Market, does anyone know if they still do or anywhere else I could get some? (Northern Melb). The closest I've found so far was human grade for $20 a kilo which is more than I can afford.
  7. I'm very sorry for your loss, run free Cassie
  8. My sympathy to the others who's dogs have had pancreatitis. My 6 year old Labrador came down with it last week for the first time and was in hospital on a drip for three days. She's quite a bit better now and back at home resting. I have to separate her from my other Labrador for some of the time to make resting possible. It’s early days and I'm still trying to work out what to feed her. The vet has put her on Hills ID Prescription diet. I got some cans and dry version but she is a bit reticent to eat it. I've even had to feed the other dog with her at times because somehow the competition gets her eating (they have their own bowls though). I cooked up some chicken breast and blended that in with some of the dried food soaked but she wasn't very keen on that either. I might have to settle for cooked chicken breast chopped up and rice. I was wondering if some pumpkin or any other veggies might be ok. Before this she was the typical Labrador that would eat anything and everything if she could. She's also still on anti-biotics for the next 10 days and will be having more blood tests then.
  9. I can only agree with the previous few posts. Well done! I'm sure all the love has a healing effect. (And yes, Boss is such a lovely boy as well).
  10. I was just having a look at my girl's teeth (5 year old Labrador) and was shocked to see a decayed section on the side of one of her top molars . There is no sign of abscess as yet and her other teeth look all clean and white. I've only just spotted it so haven't seen a vet as yet. I wonder if dogs can have teeth filled. It is a fairly major molar so would be a pity for her to lose it. I am in Melbourne, does anyone know a vet who is especially good with dental?

Sorry to hear that Lyn. RIP sweet Pup Pup.
  12. Nice, kind and patient post Faolmor . I couldn't have said it better.
  13. Thanks but after extensive elimination diets I have accepted that it isn't food allergy. I just found out the name today and found this one. Does anyone know or have experience with these? http://www.aussieotoscope.com.au/main/page...t_otoscope.html Couldn't see any at Clipper World poodle 3081. Anyway thanks for the feedback folks.
  14. Both my Labrador girls get the occasional ear infection/irritation. The vet said it is the grass allergy thing (long story but it is currently ‘managed’ to a minimum). Last time I took Bella to the vet for it he said it was only external and gave me some Surolan to put on the outer part of her ear (still inside but not right inside). Lately she seems irritated again and I have started re-applying the medication. She shakes her head a bit and I am not even sure which ear is giving her trouble. I am just wondering if I might be able to keep a better watch on them with one of those instruments to look into ears. Does anyone know if this would be ok and if it is how I might be able to obtain one.
  15. Thinking of you Carlibud. Such a beautiful boy will always be in your heart.
  16. Sending some healing wishes Kelpie-i, that heat was tough on us all. Hopefully he will pick up now it is a bit cooler. Pats from me .
  17. I don't know why you are now laughing JME. I'm glad you are both fine. I remember reading oleander was so toxic that the fumes from it burning were also lethal.
  18. My condolences Griff, RIP beautiful Sinna
  19. I certainly wouldn't risk it until more information was available.
  20. I'm sorry GTMum, how sad and so young. I can only half guess how you must feel. Thoughts and prayers for you.
  21. What a sweet little man . Thanks for sharing your pics tanya.
  22. Thanks for the link BigDaz. I've been looking for dry food containers to store grains. I'd been holding back on plastic ones (because rodents can chew them) and the galvo bins I'd found would still let moths in. That place is just down the road from me .
  23. My heart goes out to you Apfsds-t on this one year time. I think a bit of us goes with them. I cannot forget my boy (labrador) who shared 16 happy years with me. He died a few years ago now and I still get sentimental about him. Lovely tribute, beautiful boy .
  24. Interesting. I had a beaut crop of organic broccoli growing in my garden earlier this year and was astounded when my two Labradors discovered it and ate the lot over a period of a few days! OK I got over the tomato and pumpkin losses but broccoli? I was surprised but the breed tends to be very keen on their tucker. I wonder about the nutrients in it, about the only veggie they leave alone is the silver-beet.
