So sorry Perse. You've been fortunate to have so many great animals in your life, but that has its downsides. At least Collie doesn't seem to have suffered. Poor Bruce

So sorry to read this Ams. Acheron was one special character.

Every person I've spoken to in the last couple of days has seen this. Great cat but sadly some strongly anti-dog sentiments. They can suddenly turn? I think the owners of this pup and maybe the neighbours knew he was broken. It can't just suddenly appear from nowhere really? Genuine questions?

It was predatory stalking, and legs are a natural target as taking the leg out immobilises the prey. There isn't any sound on the video, but the silence is a bit of a give away, coupled with the intensity. It can be hard, though. Toby, my GSD, stalks other dogs when he sees them at a distance. At first it is hard to figure out what he's doing, but it quickly turns into calming or play signals (which most people miss, so I usually call him to me if we don't know them). Thanks. I could see its intensity but I have only seen true prey drive in action in JRTs hunting rabbits. Though I've instinctively kept away from some of those still silent dogs that stare. I'll show this to OH so he can recognise when I say a dog can be scary without being loud. From Sydney Morning Herald tonight: Only 8 months old! Eta I just watched a couple more times and realise I missed the stop, turn, go stiff bit at the start. Also that is a truly awesome cat. Everyone at the local meat raffle club saw it on the news and are talking about it!

Aidan I can see the dog is focused on the bike/leg movement under the car but why did he go for the leg, not the bike? How early could you tell the dog was a danger? I wouldn't have known until damage was being done

Hugs Puddleduck Stevie has BBQ chicken with bones and onion stuffing and a packet of mint slices on her list.

Why DPI? CAA is under Dept Local Govt isn't it? Good luck HazyWal.

I think you're right. I'm not sure I'd trust a vet who considered doing it. OP have you even spoken to your vet about it?
-
If you have to prove yourself capable and worthwhile, the cat may not initially cost you money but it's not exactly free. I guess for most it comes down to $ instead of value.

Oh yes I do wish I'd had one when we had a storm phobic dog! She hurt herself so badly

They are also useful for stray cats, rabbits, little old dogs who need separating from children, and mad grand kids pretending to be dogs who want to be locked up! Apart from Sammy at obedience club in the club's spare crate I don't think we've used ours 'traditionally' for our dogs, but it's very handy to have just in case. Maggot got the most use out of it but it's the vebo Xxl so I don't think he felt very enclosed.

Paul is funny! I think he should try frog rescue :) Paws and Hooves are still fantastic.

Do Vets Send Found Dogs Straight To A Shelter?
Katdogs replied to tikira's topic in General Dog Discussion
Luckily our closest vet is the council pound so we (TD or me) will deliver. We're right on a council boundary though so sometimes I might imagine the dog has crossed the road - otherwise it's Renbury which is a long way away. Fairford Rd are quiet but have close links to rescue and will also sometimes contact me to get a higher profile for a long-termer. They're good people. -
Well done! It's a juggle. We had a lovely BBQ planned once and everyone was great with dogs except one guest's partner who was paralysed. She tried so hard to relax but of course Stevie was worried that she was worried and kept trying to get close to stare at her lovingly. We put both dogs behind a fence but the princess did object, and it was a long afternoon We also had trouble with Maggott because he was a bad fear biter so we'd crate him in our bedroom but when he was healthy he would protest very loudly! Then if anyone saw him or had seen a photo they wouldn't believe such a cute munchkin could be a problem (um yes, he'd go for your face!).

Love your work Stan! ETA Sam is the only one of ours who watches tv. He like plain bouncy shapes like on the ads, or footy. The others only react if there's a doorbell :rolly:
-
That's the saddest thing for Stevie She is blonde inside but has black fur, so Goldens don't always recognise her! Most do, luckily.
-
Stevie always knows both Labs and Goldens. She even got excited by something resembling a white sheep (big Lab x Poodle) and often other crosses, so it's not just the shape. Sammy thinks finding another Lab at the park is like winning Lotto. He can run up like a maniac* and be welcomed! He scrunches down and goes in bum first with other dogs, but it's ON with a Lab! *he has good recall and we do the nodding and circle-finger-sign first ETA Jodie is a Kelpie and doesn't know why we need to meet other dogs when there is serious tennis ball to do.

Same. Yes I do too, but SG has explained it well too. I can only wish this dog well, and respect Nek, but we can all have our concerns for the precedent.
-
Fingers crossed he gets whatever care he needs. I didn't expect Renbury to edit the comments. I don't understand it and I'm not sure I'm comfy with it
-
Maybe I'm reading Facebook wrong but maybe the negative or questioning comments about this dog's health are being deleted?
-
Oh Dave you are having a bad time of it And there's never a good time to go to SASH - the traffic is always awful, just like their bills. They are amazingly clever though, and loving and caring in ways I didn't expect. Best wishes to you and the furries
-
I know the term Bull Mastiff gets used a lot in rescue but rarely do I see a dog that actually looks like one. Poor Orlando is a surrender at Renbury and looks like one I've met before, younger but also with an odd skull. If there is a Bull Mastiff rescue I hope it has already had notice about this dog, but if not, please have a look. I think he needs a breed specialist on his side
-
Hope your friend didn't pay more than pound price for this pup. He's very cute but just like many of the larger bull breed mix pups I've seen.

C'mon T! Show! TD bought a humongous ball for a tiger to play with and is taking forever to post a photo! I'm still sifting through show bags for the maltesers and the dogs are enjoying their Dogs NSW show bag treats. And we're now looking forward to Dogs Day Out - 14 June.
