  1. Hey RSA my childhood best dog ever was an Aussie Terrier and I went to a thingy at Erskine Park and his breeder was there! At least 35 years later or more! I cannot imagine having a better dog as a kid to train me. So I'll be the shorta*** keeping out of the sun, talking to Tapua about my dud Lab boy who is the joy of our world (except maybe the cat)
  2. I'm taking a day off work on Friday 11 April to wave at Labs. Anyone else going along? Wolfies are also on and I'd LOVE another cuddle :) I'd also like to see the Aussie Terriers in action. Any other DOLers going that day? Schedule http://www.sydneyroyal.com.au/dog.htm
  3. DABS still does desexing co-payments to vets too. Not sure of the details anymore - which vets, where, how - but a little tiny girl pup down the street is being spayed for $130 for a pensioner.
  4. Yep. I do wish I had that skill. There are (at elections usually) so many community grants to apply for, if you know how.
  5. She sounds like an amazing woman.
  6. Perfect for Perse I don't think Jodie rounding up tennis balls counts. I wonder if Maremma or CAS would be included?
  7. I don't like to think of a pup who can't be honest. Pain is pain. Physical pain might or might not be fixed. The pain of a confused and diswired dog is unimaginable. Poor pup
  8. Oh, and Stevie likes eating human babies. Feet, then arms up to at least the elbow, then a good clean of the face then steal a bear or sock from the pram. There'll be a biscuit crumb there somewhere!
  9. Even my Kelpie eats like a Lab with the Labs. Anything we eat plus so much more. I feel guilty peeling a carrot and not sharing! ETA random cat poo on walks is apparently the best treat ever
  10. What a special memory to have! Did any of that first litter end up working?
  11. Population control... rings a bell in my slow memory that Dubbo/Taronga sells excess deer (or other grazing creatures) to private properties for 'hunting'? I don't really want to go and look for the story, but it was a couple of years ago.
  12. What about Wallis? Poor puppy hasn't got much chance either if the dopey owner hasn't learnt from Boris! i can understand not putting Boris down and maybe he never leaves the house so can't hurt others. I don't think I'd be visiting though!
  13. I don't remember all the details from the book but I do remember the two standard Poodles running around the farm and bush Gonna get me one of those big real dogs one day!
  14. I'm almost up to 8 years but it doesn't look like it because I got muddled a couple of times with job changes, email changes and forgetting how to log in Congrats HW and Staffyluv! And Aphra! I miss Cordy and Greytmate and many others. I remember kabukigirl and watching the Beausmum meltdown in real time and Rozzie's nightmare and Paige's star and Leo the Lionhearted and meeting DOLers at chinaplate's (Norma's) funeral. PP was just before my time. G\/\/atemate's r button got stuck once! Edit - was it w? Anyway it was hilarious at the time :) DOL saved my sanity when I was sitting in Orkney at 2am with the radio in the next empty room going full blast! I've gone from inexperienced owner of a mixed breed pet shop puppy (still the most beautiful dog in the world) then into rescue - with Leaky Ted and the Maggot and a lovely procession of Labs and our best foster failure Jodie - and now own a pure breed DOL special Lab puppy
  15. Oh Lestat is so beautiful! I hate it when my favourite rescues GRR and LabraDOG have grey mask faced dogs. They're so lovely!
  16. Totally love Helen N. One session with her helped so much with Rocky-Road-Kitty when she was paralysed with the Origin food thing. Wish she would fix my back!
  17. Judy69 could you please PM me the name of the vet? I have relatives in Townsville with a dog and would be appalled if he was treated with Benadryl!
  18. How beautiful. From five weeks to 13 years he was a very lucky lovely loved dog. And then he quietly left. Good boy
  19. We have a sofa bed and dog-friendly dogs. And a spare mattress if the sofa-bed person or people go without. Nothing plush but we're not very far from the showground and only two corners off the M5.
  20. Often my dogs have trouble processing the last meal or two out of a bag, especially a big bag. I think it's the crumbs at the bottom being too rich. Then again, I'm not sure Advance is the greatest food for a giant puppy so maybe ask in the relevant breed forum?
  21. I tried a couple of different ideas for the Maggot including a kid stroller with a comfy pouch type setup but none suited him. Without really good springing he got too jolted for his stupid flippers/arthritis, and he really wanted to be at ground level sniffing stuff. Having the other dogs with us didn't work because they got bored and wanted to go too fast. He was happier with a very slow stroll, just two or three houses then I'd carry him across the road to go a couple of houses back again. He loved his car rides too, so he could bark at all the stupid people.
  22. Jodie is our only dog interested in tennis balls and has access to the very best human tennis balls (Wilson, Slazenger, Penn) that seem to last her forever - OH is a tennis coach :) We have buckets of them. Can't walk through the house or backyard without stepping on them. Of course, she prefers Kong Air squeaky balls, even if the squeaker breaks within the first few hours!
  23. Hugs to you and family. He was such a happy, beautiful old gent. Like LG said, it's good to think of what a special lovely boy you loved so much.
