  1. Sorry to hear poor little Radar isn't well. I hope he improves tonight. I hate toads, we have heaps in our yard at night, especially when it's been raining. Most nights we go out do a toad run and put them in our freezer. Bastard little things they are. There was one in our laundry last night where my girls sleep! Luckily they are scared of them and run the other way.

    Angus

I don't think I can type. I'm so sorry Sarah. Run free Angus, there's no more pain. I hope you took your chilly with you to keep you warm.
  6. My heart breaks for you cavNrott. RIP Sophie, safe travels over the bridge
  7. Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but Huga on DOL is making martingale collars. They are extremely well made and look funky with your choice of fabric! http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?s=&a...t&p=2952531
  8. I have a beagle with a bent tail, its been like that since we got her. She's hurt it a few times and with pain killers has come through. It adds character to her and it allows people to tell the difference between our two girls. Her's used to be at right angles , but has straightened over time. It's still obviously bent, but not as bad as it used to be. The vet said if it doesn't get better, they will need to amputate it at the bend. But, she's been fine and has only seriously hurt it once (and I think that was when she was jumping up, pulling washing off the line!).
  9. Another treat that's also meant to be good for arthritis is Green Lipped Mussels and shark cartilage. The GLM's are actually dehydrated whole mussels, not powder. They are reported to reduce pain, swelling, and inflammation associated with arthritis and improve joint mobility. One mussle and a piece of shark cartilage a day is also another alternative
  10. Beagles are pack dogs, they need to feel like they are part of the pack or have another dog for company. To me he sounds bored. How old is he? Sometimes a new dog can help the situation, sometimes it doesn't. I've got two beagles and have never had this issue with barking and destructive behaviour. For interests sakes, where abouts on the soutside are you?

    Cherry Eye

It certainly can. Is your dog young Jess123? I gather so seeming you are posting in puppy problems. The cartlidge in that area can be quite soft when they are young. As they age it strengthens up and reduces the likely hood of the gland prolapsing. Both my beagles have had Cherry Eye. One girl was lucky enough that everytime it happened, we were able to massage it back into place. It hasn't happened for ages (*touches wood*), so I'm hoping she's okay. My other girl had to have the operation to re-locate the gland as it was not going to go away. It looks horrible and whilst it apparently doesn't hurt the dog, it hurts my eyes looking at it. We paid to have the operation done and the specialist said it will most likely happen again. Here's my thread in health: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...0&hl=cherry After op: In my experience, always try to massage it back in without stressing the dog out. If it gets to a point where it won't go back in, that's when the operation is needed, or it stays like that. The specialist I went to was fabulous. In 90% of cases, if one eye develops cherry eye, the other will too.
  12. Maybe we should do that too, print out an image and see what it's like. We never really print images though. All the sample images we found on the net looked quite good. I just thought I'd see if anyone has had any experience with this camera.
  13. Chezzyr - as I said in my first post, we'll be taking it out this weekend to try different shots and hope that it's good. It's a nice looking camera and most of the reviews were good. I don't want to write it off yet, hopefully with testing this weekend, we'll get some better photos! Ripley - you've lost me. As I said, I just put it on auto and take a photo, OH is the one that knows all that. He's registered on DOL, I'll get him to come and post his technical version of my not technical at all understanding of the photos/camera.
  14. The whole image is out of focus when 100% zoomed. We scrolled around the whole picture to see where was in focus and where wasn't. It was the whole thing that wasn't in focus. It was a photo of Leia who wasn't more than 2m from me with the flash on. Chezzyr: Yes, 100% view on the computer screen. OH said when resized, they look fine. I told him to compare an image from the canon in focus to an image we took last night and see what the difference is. I didn't get the results from this, he took the camera to work today to do more "testing".
  15. OH said it's not the CA. I left him at his putah last night researching more. Basically this is how I understand what he was saying. When we zoom to 100% of the image, the quality is horrible. It's like it's a water painting and has been smudged. Is it meant to be like that? He thinks that it's because the MP is so much higher than our other two cameras. He explained in layman terms for me. This camera's images are like bed sheet size. The canon we've got (350D) is like a table cloth and the sony is a pillow case. SO because the images are so much bigger, it's blurring. I would have thought though, with any image it would stay clear the more you zoomed in? Maybe not. As I said, I pick up a camera and put it on auto and shoot. He does all the fiddling with the settings.
  16. In true OH form, went out and spontaneously bought a new camera. Yes, we needed one and he did his research, but I'm concerned about the quality of the photos coming off the camera. Okay, yes, we only got it yesterday afternoon, but we were both quite disappointed when reviewing images. Without going back to the company and saying "this camera is shit" we are waiting until daylight to have a go at taking some photos to see if the quality improves. OH isn't a camera newb by any means, but, also isn't a pro when it comes to settings. Me on the other hand, I put it on AUTO and shoot We've read the reviews, we have the camera, but I just wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with this camera? We've got 14 days satisfaction guarantee, so we'll go out this weekend (hopefully it's not raining!) and take a few different shots to test it out.
  17. I'd look around, they vary in price between $17 - $20 a roll.
  18. really? Never heard that one before. They do have anal gland issues every now and then, but I've never heard of that one! Will look into it.
  19. They look very clean with a little yellowing at the bottom near their gums. Is that normal? I think we might go to the vets this afternoon. Don't want it to be something bacterial and not do anything about it. Sally's just walked outside and whilst she eats grass daily, she doesn't stand out there for 5 minutes scoffing it down.
  20. Nah, the smell isn't coming from their ears. That was the first thing we thought of. Definitely from their mouth.
  21. Serious question, why do my puppies smell? It's not a dirty/un washed type of smell. It's a breath/phlegmy type of smell. Is that part of kennel cough? They aren't coughing or anything. Sally smells worse than Leia. It's only around their head that they smell. Very bizarre. Mr Moo Moo (Mojo) smelt like this when he had Kennel Cough, only reason I thought that. It's apparently in epidemic proportions around our area atm. Sally has a little sore on the outside of her mouth, but Leia doesn't and she has the same smell. I've looked at Leia's teeth and can't see anything obvious like an ulcer or anything. Any ideas on what it can be?
  22. Is this what you are after? They are beef whizzers. PolaPaws Also, there's a butcher in Mansfield that's just started stocking dog treats, he may have some?
  23. We've just had a boy done and he was $209 + $30 for his kennel cough vaccine (apparently he hadn't had it previously). Our girls were about $800 IIRC. They were meant to be done on the same day, but leia was sick before her op and they didn't want an opened wound and germs, so she had to be put off till the next Friday. That was desexing, microchipping, blood tests (they had been sick and the vet said they should be done before going ahead). Sally had some extra special thing to help her wake up from the anaesthetic better. Leia didn't and she was better after the op than Sally. When ringing for prices to get the 7mnth old boy desexed, I had prices from $149 - $250+ and they were from vets within a 10km radius of us. Crazy.
  24. *goes home to check if her beagles should join the circus* That's really bizarre. I could see it in the first pic, but the second one is more obvious and red. The first one didn't seem to look red. It will be interesting to see what the vets decide to do.
