Just letting everyone know that Canine Country/Lotsa Pet Food is still in Woodridge and still open on Saturday. The shop has recently changed owners, but is still selling the same raw food.

Another option is Glyde powder. When Sally was diagnosed with HD earlier this year, we were told to start her on a joint suppliment straight away and decided on glyde as it has all three, green lipped mussels, chondroitin and glucosamine. I've started giving it to both my girls because it can't hurt them both to have it. We put it on their breakfast every morning. They've never refused breakfast with the powder on, but then again, they are beagles. I'll be doing further xray's in February next year to see if there is any change in her hips from the xray's this year in February.. Fingers crossed the xrays are the same. We also give our girls dried green lipped mussels and shark cartilage every morning.

What was the outcome of the appointment? I hope he's okay!

We've used the specialist centre at Albany Creek for Sally's cherry eye operation. They were very nice and informative when we dealt with them. They even took Leia in for the day to keep Sally company. I'm pretty sure we saw Anna Deykin at BVSC and we also saw her for the follow up. When we saw her a few years ago, she only worked a few days a week. We chose BVSC as they were half the price of AES's, but still a specialist. Sorry to hear about Boo, he's not having a good time lately is he? Hugs to him and you.

I feed my girls Glyde powder on their breakfast every morning and they also get a green lipped mussel and a piece of shark cartilage daily. One of my girls that has been diagnosed with HD isn't too fussed on the mussels and will only eat them whens he feels like it. My other girl whom I suspect HD but haven't xrayed LOVES the mussels and steals my other girls when she spits it out. Both LOVE the shark cartilage.

She's now in Melbourne!

I'm pretty sure this is one of the puppy farms that brings dogs into a house at Brisbane that is solely rented for these people to sell dogs at on weekends. What ever dogs they don't sell on weekends are dropped at a local pet shop. Aboslutely disgusting. Nice to know they are being dealt with.

On the weekend, we participated in the beagle club of queensland lurecoursing event over the weekend and my girls scored quite well. One got a score of 163 and the other 167 with the girl getting 167 coming second in the Novice class. Last year the other girl got 165 and came 2nd as well. This got us both thinking that we'd like to look into lurecoursing for them on a competition level. I'm not sure if these scores are great, but we were told that scores over 160 can go towards a Field Championship title. Can anyone explain the way the points system works towards obtaining the Field CH title? I've read the QLD Lurecoursing association's website, but it's a bit confusing! Do you have to attened every meet for 12 months and have your dog score over 165 every meet to be able to obtain the title? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

All she said to me when I said I could feed them the food I've got was they were eating it, but weren't putting on weight and seemed to be losing it. I gave them some of the barf I give my girls and they loved it. But I dont want to give them that all weekend because it will upset their little tummies. I've got some royal canin dry food for them. I'll just feed that I think.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips on feeding BARF to puppies? Is there anything extra that you add to their food to give more fat for the puppies? I'm looking after two puppies for the weekend and I was told they stpoped feeding barf because the puppies were eating, but weren't putting on any weight. Any tips on what I can add to the mixture to help them? I use the canine country barf rolls.. I'm not sure what the owner was using. ETA: I've only had experience with mature dogs and barf, not puppies. These puppies are 11 weeks old.

What Food Do You Use? And A Couple More Questions

None. I feed the canine country barf rolls and only the white meat varieties in the mornings and chicken wings/necks and turkey necks in the evening, depending on what's in the freezer. I mix is sardines in oil once a week as well. My girls are on monthly Sentinel Spectrum and I vary rarely use flea control as the tablets have some control over fleas. If I see large fleas I will put advantage on. I've used advantix twice and both times they've both had the same reaction to it. Not going for a third time. Icebreak bottles. My girls aren't big with toys. My husband is addicted to icebreak and one of my girls loves pulling the lids off and soccering around the bottle for about 2 minutes, then forgets about them. I only let her have bottles that my husband has just finished so the contents isn't old and stinky. My girls love sleeping on the lounge, getting pats and barking at any dogs that walk past their house. ... Give barf a go! The change in my girls is amazing. Would love to see you at the beagle club's Lurecoursing event on the 30th August! -
I have a few that were taken by Charlotte Reeves.

Have you tried canine country? They seem to have packages of meats in their cabinet that are just the meat, not mixed with anything else. -
I ended up talking to my normal vet that I used before starting work here and he said he'd use the stilbesterol. So I've asked the vets to do up do up the dosage for me. She'll start tonight.
-
Thanks everyone. We might try the incurin first and see how that works. How often is the incurin dose? The Stilboestrol certainly is cheaper! But I want to do what's right for her, not what's cheaper. Has anyone noticed any personality changes by putting them on the tablets? Are the dogs their normal happy selves? My OH is worried she will change and be a different dog.

My 2.5yr old beagle bitch (whom was desexed smack bang on 6 months old) has been diagnosed with hormonal (spey) incontinence. We've had her on Propalin for 4 weeks now giving 0.4ml morning and night and she's still leaking during the early morning hours. We've tried playing around with the dosage time, but nothing seems to be working with it. She's on a raw diet and we've stopped giving red meats and only fed white (chicken, duck and turkey). She has gone 4 nights without weeing, then the last 3 she's wee'd every night. I've spoken with my vet and there are a few other drug options. 1. Propalin with an implant 2. Incurin 3. Stilbestrol All have their own pros and cons and I'm not sure where to go from here. Propalin has a 80% success rate in working and it is the drug of choice as it's a new technology drug. Incurin being the next oldest and Stilbestrol being the oldest. My husband doesn't want her to be on anything, but we need to do something. Not only for her to stop UTI's and burning of her skin long term, but for my sanity so I don't have to be washing the incontinence mats and blankets every day. Does anyone have any experience, good or bad with Incurin or Stilbestrol? Incurin will most likely be the next step for us, but I'm just interested to find out other people's opinions and own personal experience with the drugs and their dogs. We've had a horrible few months with my poor girl, being diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia in February and now incontinence... Hopefully this is it! Her sister (same litter) doesn't have any signs of either problems.

I've just been told by my vet to put my girl onto this powder after finding out she has HD problems. We only started it last night, so I can't give any good results yet, but I'm glad to see others are using it and seeing good results. I asked the vet about green lipped mussels and she said that was one of the main ingrediants in this powder, so we'll give it a go and see if it helps her at all.

I think you need to fix this problem by getting another beagle!

Shark cartlidge fed daily in conjucntion with green lipped mussels are excellent as an effective supplement in the management of arthritis and other degenerative joint diseases.

Unless you think barking at yourself and having fun is a bad behaviour, hell no! We think it's hilarious and encourage Sally when she's having a crazy wal. I've just been in my husband computer room enjoying a crazy wal moment and spurring her on We were playing in her bed and she was jumping around like a lunatic and now I have some nice scratches on my legs! We have no issues and she's been doing it for two years. My other girl just looks at her like she's some possessed beagle and wanders off. So not all of them do it! I think it is Sally's form of zoomies as they've never actually done proper zoomies. Have you thought of joining the beagle club? We've got a walk on at the Gold Coast spit in April if you are interested. Nothing like seeing 30+ beagles enjoying the sun, sand and surf. Bobby will be old enough then to be out and socialising.

One of my girls does this thing where she rolls around on the lounge barking at herself. We call it "Crazy Wal". I have a video of it somewhere, I'll have a look where it is. OH and I laugh at her everytime, it's funny. We sometimes get her going by barking at her and she goes nuts. Is this what you mean? http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=1f6ZGY8blE0 http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=-NeHFQ9ZS9U

We freeze our chicken wings, lamb necks and any other pieces of chicken and defrost them in the fridge for 24 hours with their barf patties. One whole shelf of the fridge is dedicated to dog food
-
They are great for puppies and any dogs diet My beagles have been eating chicken wings everynight since we brought them home at 8 weeks of age. Any raw bones are great for dogs teeth.
