  1. You need to sign the back of it (has the breeder signed it too?) and send it in with the correct payment to transfer ownership. You will get a new one in the mail with you as the registered owner.
  2. Awwww, that's so sad. I know how you feel, I lost one of my banties a few weeks ago and I still miss her.
  3. It's hugely embarrassing when you take a herding breed of dog, a dog who is bred from hard core working lines, and you take him to a herding clinic and all he wants to do is eat the sheep shit. No flaming interest in the sheep at all!
  4. It's quadruple what I paid for one of my Aussies, and about double the current going rate.
  5. Benson loves apples, and we recently discovered he also likes loquats. We have a loquat tree which recently fruited and dropped the fruit on the ground. He gobbled it up every chance he got. He also loves watermelon.
  6. Dusty is the fun police and bedtime monitor here. In fact she seems to know everyones routines and makes sire we stick to them. Nothing like a poky-nosed dog to get you moving.
  7. There used to be a girl in my obedience class a few years ago, who had a kelpie bitch like this. The instructor used to encourage verbal praise, pats, treats etc during training but if the kelpies owner did anything more than a quiet, calm, almost off-hand "Good girl", the dog would just go absolutely crazy to the point where it would take her 10 minutes or more to settle her down and focus again. It was a dog for whom working had it's own rewards, she didn't need the owner to also reward her.
  8. I don't let Isaak socialise with other dogs at training, if he's not working with me, he's to sit quietly and wait. He is 8 months old and I get lots of comments on how calm and focussed he is. He can say hello to the other dogs after class, on the way to the car.
  9. I have an elderly Lhasa Apso who I feed completely seperately to the Aussies. She gets shut in the laundry until everyone has finished their dinner. The Aussies don't get separated although Isaak gets his away from the other two cos he likes sharing theirs but they don't like him near their bowls but they are all pretty tolerant and if I just move him away we have a peaceful meal. But if I leave the Lhasa near the others, the Aussies would go for her dinner, cos she gets My Dog foil packs mixed with her kibble, and they are apparently very desirable to big dogs. And she would defend her dinner to the death. Easier just to lock her away somewhere else.
  10. Why would you tip a little dog off a table? Frontwards or backwards?
  11. If you start as you mean to go on....ie, not take too much time off work when the puppy first comes home, and the dog is used to being on it's own during the day, there's no reason why it should whine and cry on your days off. My dogs have their own routine, which seems to involve a lot of napping, while we're at work and they do exactly the same when we're home. I like to spend extra time with the dogs when I have an RDO, but I also have a lot of other stuff to catch up on such as housework, gardening etc so it's not always feasible, but often when I try and tempt them into a game between chores, they lift their heads from their nap, look at me in disgust and go back to sleep.
  12. It seems to be a highly palatable and very tasty food for a lot of dogs. I use it for training treats as well as their dinner and they are all very happy to work for it. Dusty has, in the past, spat out kibble in disgust when I've tried it for training but she loves Black Hawk.
  13. I switched them over in about 3-4 days.....the big ones were getting Coprice and I mixed a handful of BH with it, then more and more til they just got BH. Same with Isaak, he was getting Supercoat puppy and he was switched over in the same amount of time. No issues at all. I used to have problems getting the same premium brand locally on an ongoing basis.....and it didn't matter which brand. Eagle Pack was often out of stock, Pro Plan was sporadic, I have hells own trouble getting Royal Canin Maine Coon for the cats.......my Maine Coon is over 11kg, she eats heaps but the largest bag I could buy was 3kg, which is ridiculous. I know if I lived in suburbia, I might not have these issues, but in regional areas, it's hard to stick to a brand or type of pet food because they just don't get large stocks in and don't replace them quickly when they sell out.
  14. My care package is nearly ready to go. My soldier is getting spoilt, he's getting an iPod Nano, an iTunes voucher and the latest John Grisham novel. Actually, it's my son who's just started a tour of duty in Afghanistan as the chief reconnaissance officer.
  15. I voted too, but seeing as my daughter is logged into FB on my computer under her name, I also clicked Don't Allow, so not sure it registers.
  16. I have been giving my dogs a handful of Black Hawk, scattered on the bedroom floor at bedtime. They've come to really look forward to it and as soon as I start making moves towards bedtime, they are up and standing by the pantry, ready to follow me to bed. Right now, I must be a bit late going to bed because Dusty is standing by my side poking me gently with her nose. OK, OK I get the hint!
  17. I want that Border Collie. I reckon I can teach it to do the housework, buy the groceries and put away the laundry. Given a year or so, I could also teach it to clean the car, weed the garden and operate the rideon mower.
  18. I thought she DID cross Border Collie with Aussie Shepherd and was selling them for $350 on Gumtree? Read the opening post. She said she bred a litter of Border Collies earlier this year. She actually bred a litter of mongrels as she mated her Australian Shepherd with her Border Collie, then advertised the pups on Gumtree.....but I thought it was for $800. But maybe that was the stud fee she was charging the owner of the BC she later mated the Aussie to. Or maybe the $350 was the price of the deaf pups from the second litter of BC x Aussies. The OP is not a registered breeder, she does not have a prefix and she has bred at least 2 mongrel litters this year that I know of....could be 3 though. She is, however, entitled to her opinion as all of us are.
  19. No, you bred a litter of mongrels. Border Collie X Australian Shepherds. Then advertised them for around the same price as a pedigree pup.
  20. What's your prefix, Kristin? Didn't you get blue merles because you used your blue merle Australian Shepherd as the sire?
  21. 8.30 is sort of reasonable, 9am is a bit better, 10am is perfect. However, now we are into summer we start at 8am which is NOT reasonable at all. These are usually Sunday shows and follow the Saturday show which started at 5pm (which is more than reasonable) but not good if u want to do both shows on the weekend..... Football starts in the PM, so does cricket, basketball generally starts after dark....now if dog shows want to be considered "sport" they need to start at a more sporting time.....after lunch! Must better for those of us who live 2 hours away. 4am wake ups absolutely suck.
  22. If there's not, there should be. They show up in pounds a lot.
  23. Some dogs just won't. I have one that chases and brings it back if he feels like it, but when he's had enough he takes it and lays on it (frisbee, not a ball). Another one that chases, catches, drops it and comes back to me prancing and dancing ready for me to throw it again. There's MY exercise. And another who chases, catches, brings it back again and again. Frisbee, ball, stick, no matter what I throw, he brings it back. I didn't teach him though, he figured it out for himself. Sometimes he brings back the other dogs things too.
  24. The early starts. Why oh why do dog shows have to start at 8.30 or 9am? Isn't 1pm a more reasonable time?
  25. I have 3 Aussies and a very, very old Lhasa Apso. I've just switched their food to Black Hawk Holistic as it's a super premium kibble at close to a supermarket price. Prior to that they were getting Supercoat and Coprice. They also get raw chicken pieces which I buy in bulk and freeze. Walks, I only walk the Aussies and only when my husband will come with me. Sometimes I just walk one by myself. However we live on 3/4 acre and have a fenced off paddock where I can take them to run off steam, chase frisbees and balls etc. We also do obedience training there. They don't lack for exercise. Bedding, they sleep on cheap dog mattresses I got from Kmart, topped with a rug. In the past they've also slept on old quilts, folded and topped with a rug. Benson sleeps under our bed. Bills, well we both work fulltime and the dogs are pretty healthy so no exorbitant vet bills, touch wood.
