  1. I hope the ANKC can keep the amstaff safe. I would have thought it only a short time before forged papers start circulating, and government declares ANKC registration no protection. I think ANKC needs to start looking at more secure methods to register/identify individual dogs from birth. Hopefully rangers start by targetting those openly selling restricted breed pups in local papers, and leave the responsible owners alone. Alas i suspect it will be those owners who do the right thing and whose dogs exist in council records that will feel the force of the new laws, not the unseen, non-existant breeding dogs producing pups for any wannabee teenage thug.
  2. Not quite everyone. I entered with no clue where Kerang is....just looked on map....little suprised to say the least. At least the late start and group 5 not being first....makes it 'almost sensible' alarm time it's nearly 4 hrs for me so I guess I will be home in time for tea. :D Same or maybe supper........always thought it was near Ballarat...still will be a part of victoria i have never seen.

  4. any aussie shep results. I so wanted to do this show, and couldnt cos of work plans...which got cancelled two days ago anyway
  5. not good....can cope with show related issues, but cars and mud are not my thing...might have to rethink my weekend.
  6. I have saturdays but not sundays as yet. On another note...i dont normally show at Bulla, how is the parking....am i going to get bogged?
  7. Agree many dont realise their dogs bark and when i got first complaint i took the action to monitor them hence sound and camera recording and have continued to do so for a year now...i was shocked how lazy they were to be honest. Yes it does indeed have to be proven, but actual complaints can be put in without evidence. In our case they complain but have never specified a time when dogs were barking...just brush over with 'all day and all night'. True complaint goes nowhere but its still a pain to deal with every few months, still you live with the threat someone is targetting your dogs and may take their own action. Surely there should be some means to prevent people like this harassing. Instead i am told by council amount of barking isnt the issue, its whether it affects their quality of life (e.g. will a doctor write a letter saying they are distressed by it).
  8. What is unreasonable barking? I ask as have had this issue the past year. Cameras and sound monitors show dogs bark around 4 times in a day, thats individual barks not sessions of barking, is that too much?
  9. Just one aussie shep..he will be the badly behaing one Now to tell OH he isnt coming....usually he doesnt do dog stuff, but i thought this was part of warragul ag show so he was tempted to come. Then i looked up warragul show to get location and it said that was last weekend. Hence my sudden need to work out where in hell I am going tomorrow. And to make it worse the sunshine has gone and its raining heavily.
  10. Thankyou ....good job i asked or i would have gone to warragul not Darnum
  11. Could someone tell me the location for the show tomorrow please. Have misplaced my january vicdog and whenever i try to download from the dogsvic site that particular gazette crashes the computer. Thankyou
  12. Interesting the inadvertant things they learn as a pup that can have consequences down the track. My 8 year old weim has never in his life retrieved anything back to me despite his enthusiasm to fetch it. All because as a pup i always let him play alongside my collie rough who had herself learned great enthusiasm for retrieving playing alongside a ball obsessed cattledog. I never thought that play process would prove an issue to the gundog down the track. From day 1 the weim was enthusiastic to fetch and with greater speed than the collie would always reach an article ahead of her, pick it up and head back to me ... but collie cunning and dominance won the day everytime....she would wait half way out for him to fetch it back, and calmly walk up and take it from his mouth, and then it was the collie who completed the return. If you remove the collie then he simply stops halfway back and drops the article. We have spent many years trying every method you can find in books and internet, even removing myself and giving him to another trainer to try and reshape his behaviour, long long breaks with no fetching to try and break the old habit, but it just seems its too ingrained. Someone asked me if i was going to look at utility gundog testing for him now which he would love, but as i pointed out he still cant fetch a dumbell for obedience from 5 meteres, what hope is there for him (unless they change rules to let me have a collie assisting )
  13. looking at the ingredient list i would suspect the beef components get it seized
  14. certainly have seen them in the back areas of kcc but not as yet in offlead. Have just returned from there coincidently. I did initially let mine into the main offlead but started to get concerned about the risk from the long grass combined with sunny days, so moved mine into the smaller area next to the earth dog which is mown. The back training ground is also mown at present. In fact only area that isnt is the main offlead.
  15. We are just about on schedule Beck got his CCD and will enter CD shortly, and his first pass for TSDX (shortage of trials may limit us here). Jovi needs another pass for his PT but he got his T.Ch this weekend just gone. Hs started obedience training. No agility as yet...to wet underfoot. Dabbled in the show ring. Skye came out to play through winter and has two passes towards her TSD
  16. Ive an easy to train hard to trial dog, who i basically retired from competition a couple of years back as she hated it...since then i brought her out for a bit of fun at a couple of herding trials last year and she gained her HSA title despite not training afor a long time, and this year she has passed the first leg towards her TSD. Basically i use her for fun nowadays, but most of the time she is simply the dog that jumps in the car to come along for a ride. Ive recently begun working my weim again in obedience. I trialled him as a 1 year old but he was not mature and i got put off the whole thing worrying what he would do and hiding behind the excuse i want to get her passed first (something that will never happen as her loathing for the obedience ring is so apparent). Now at 6 i am starting to work him and enjoying as he is a much calmer composed thoughtful dog now. So he was my cop out dog for a few years. I am now contemplating trying to train him retrieve, something we tried many time by many methods way back as a young dog. I guess i have also done a few different sports to try others, and effectively walked away and come back to obedience, and am contemplating giving agility another go with my young aussie. From my experience its the ahrd dogs that teach you most, for example in tracking i learned much more from a poor tracking collie rough than from a weim who put his nose down and ran the track first go and who rarely hesitates or needs assistance. I am now learning even more from a very unmotivated aussie and having to adapt to try and suit him. i dont think its a cop out just waiting time for the dog and me to have the right state of mind for each sport.
  17. that explains all the sirens around here this morning (Richmond)
  18. My weim was the same. He has had a greyhound coat for a couple of years now, has a high neck and then fabric ties which sit just behind his chest. he wears that happily all night no problems, never attempted to remove it. I asked recently where i could get another on the greyhound thread and there were a few suggestions you could try. Mine are for male greys and I find they reach over the base of my weims tail and he is a big weim, so for a dally you may need one for a bitch or custom made.
  19. I own a weim but i never recommend them to anyone i dont know extremely well, was experienced with active dogs, used to training, doesnt worry about their kids being knocked over, doesnt like to feed birds in their garden and isnt going to find it the end of the world if their belongings get destroyed . Yes there are exceptions, and yes all breeds can do those things, but given the OPs partner isnt fully convinced of needing a dog i would consider a weim a little too much of a challenge. If i was the OP i would consider a collie smooth, less grooming than the rough though they do shed, but generally they are gentle unobtrusive puppies who weedle their way into peoples hearts...just get on top of the territorial barking before it starts.
  20. i got my numbers last night, but they arent mine, at least one of them isnt. I only have one entered and got two numbers for group 5.
  21. Ive found the person in question sitting on floor or laying on couch removes much of threat. Dont try to get an interaction just treat if they come close of their own accord in their own time. Have found it can take a few evenings of this and a fair bit of cheese but they get there. Dont let the person reach out to them though. If you can identify what it is with that person it helps. My aussie doesnt like my other half when he is resting dark sunglasses on top of his head...some kind of 4 eye monster threat
  22. the filming thing is an interesting one, as in the leaflet the council sent me one of the courses of action that the complainant is asked to do is to film the dog barking.
  23. Experiencing a similar problem at present, though in my case they went straight to council. However i did finally get to speak to the ranger and he explained the processes that have to be gone through before any action can be taken, it does sound like unreasonable complaints are recognised as such. Apparently my dogs sleeping in the house bark all night and keep them awake, and they never leave the yard. Shame these people who are awake all night dont look out their windows to see us dragging ourselves to walk, train and trial at all hours of darkness. When i moved here i was told by one neighbour that another has major animal issues among other issues. Since then i have spent 6 years accomodating her, my dogs only have access to one-third of my yard when Im not home so she cant see them, my cats are confined to the house so she cant come into yard and trap them, we dont play music or use dryer after 9pm so she can sleep, we have never had a party or even bbq outside after 8 so her kids can sleep. All i can say is life is going to be changing around here, give an inch and they will just want a mile. It would be nice if there was a listing of unreasonable complainants we could all check before moving house.
  24. I say talk to them. Ive just been issued a complaint by council without any prior approach by what ever neighbour is concerned. Have spent two days without success trying to speak to a ranger to discuss whether there is any evidence it really is mine (but thats a whole other story), and now have a problem i cant renew my permit for an extra dog, so am in crisis working out what i do. Believe me i would have been far more appreciative and less stressed right now if the neighbour had simply approached me directly along with some information as to times when it was happening.
