My girl can bark till the cows come home in the drop. The only thing that eliminated barking with her was an immediate end to ANY attention I gave her when she started barking- no eye contact, no commands nothing. She wanted attention and even me redirecting the behaviour was achieving her goal. I have a screamer, a grumbler, a yipper, a yodeler, a howler and a woofer. I have to say I dont notice barking much these days, my dogs learnt that it doesn't get them any attention from me, but it doesn't stop them trying to get others to look or yell at them. Nothing better than a well timed 'shut up' to keep my dogs barking...... That said my girl barks before work, but shuts up when I am working her (unless I stuff up then she tells me off)

You had better come and see all the flyballers!!! I want to meet a Fauve in the flesh!! And If LC and Nissa is there I am sure she would still have some admirers from the comp she attended

+1. I also wouldn't be doing a general anaesthetic for a 'maybe' cure. It also doesn't seem like a typical case of entropion- I am guessing it was the last diagnosis left standing? Rather than any actual evidence. I would have thought there would be ulceration with long term Entropion and Distichia?? (Happy to be corrected though.)

Yup- it sounds like it will be quicker and cheaper to go and see a specialist

My stuffing free duck has turned into one of the girls "puppy" as she is having a phantom whelping atm. No one else is allowed to touch it, let alone squeak it and it gets taken everywhere. I did work out that I can lock the crate on it so she can duck off to the toilet without it and she doesn't have to worry about anyone interfering with it. So I will call it a success!!

You have a good vet He probably also X-rays after making him a great vet!!!

Interesting - I've heard about worming every now and then, how often do you worm your dogs (when they're not around livestock)? Do you take a sample every 3 or so months to have tested? Cheers It tends to be when I remember them- pups regularly up to 6mths (older dogs also get wormed regularly with pups around and I make sure poo clean up happens as often as possible with youngsters) then every 6mths to 9mths. I have done some random testing on my dogs (too many for them all to be done) and haven't had a significant worm count.

Protecting Lizards In The Back Yard
Jumabaar replied to Whippetsmum's topic in General Dog Discussion
My Lappie only does skinks- unfortunately they are all bought inside to show me I have part of the yard sectioned off to stop fence funning and it appears that the skinks have all moved there and vacated the main part of the yard as I don't see them anymore. The Lappie moved on to butterflies and christmas beetles (also ) Kelpies only do flies -
We do however have colour dilute alopecia in the breed So not many of them are shown.

Wow that is some nice movement there RV!!

OK at this point I will admit that I don't actually worm my dogs every three months. It really is overkill generally. I my dogs DO get wormed every few weeks if they are near livestock but for your average family pet it isn't necessary. If you really want to reduce the chemical load on your dog ask your vet to do a egg count from your dogs stool (poo) sample. They might be happy to do it without a consult. If it comes back clear then there is no need to worm your dogs

Guess what I just signed for!! Package 2 of 2 now is sitting in the hallway Looks like Aus Post is trying to catch up- my mail man was in a rental truck. BUT the other good news is that I saw (at least) EIGHT other clean run boxes in there waiting to be delivered!! Perhaps it was our clean run orders that caused the backlog in Australia Post

I am hoping this year I get my act together. I have four dogs eligible but who gets done will depend on their training. Safire got injured last time I wanted to do the ET with her so i will see how she goes this time.

Singleton Puppy Advice / Mothering Level Increasing
Jumabaar replied to dennyhound's topic in Breeders Community
What lines are your kelpie from? My bitch was not all that interested in mothering. She fed as required, toileted them as required and if someone was really screaming she would go and poke them till they were quiet. I just let nature take its course. (with lots of supervision) -
Bats have Australian Bat Lyssavirus. It is not the same as rabies, but does cross react with the vaccine.

Neighbour Has Undesexed Female Dog...
Jumabaar replied to pipsqueak's topic in General Dog Discussion
My boy has had an injection that chemically sterilises him for 12 mths. He didn't really care about the girls being in season, although they harassed him a fair bit . Mind you the entire boy that lives with my mum thinks its just a big game and wants to do zoomies with girls that are in season so its really an individual thing. -
Should Regional Areas Have To Support Erskine Park.?
Jumabaar replied to klink's topic in General Dog Discussion
I agree with the others- I really can't see an option other than having one major centre, splitting resources to try and create other official grounds would be interesting- how many would we need and it would mean that no one gets very far. I would like to see EP done up more, making it easier to show for both locals and regional exhibitors rather than have funds split. -
Sounds like the dog is not having a particularly nice experience now.....

Should Regional Areas Have To Support Erskine Park.?
Jumabaar replied to klink's topic in General Dog Discussion
Should city individuals have to contribute our regional dollars for continued spending on a ground which we do not own Also you have posed a problem. What is your solution- where/how should this money be spent fairly to help ALL regional NSW, from the south to the north so that no area is left out? -
I dont believe I would because I have lived with a Storm Phobic dog. BUT at the same time, because of my prior experience I have a number of 'sounds CD' that I begin playing when pups are two weeks old, and continue playing up until they leave. So with that kind of preparation I would hope that even a dog with a slight predisposition toward being noise phobic will have had enough priming to never become truly phobic....

Well I managed to stuff up my own plans by getting glandular fever and haven't trained in 6 weeks now. My pup, who was doing better than my older girl is now enjoying giving me the finger when I ask her to sit. I still dont have a lot of energy for training so this may get interesting :D 7 Days to try and fix her lol. Oh well she will be cute I guess even if she is a little imp......

I HATED working New Years and the day after Australia Day- The number of dogs that we would process, all sad and miserable was horrid.
