No cheewowas here - only this lot.

Beautiful!
-
Beagles just yell at snakes - stay back and make a racket until someone or a Maremma comes to save em. Ive never lost a beagle to a snake but a couple of Maremma have been pinged over the years.

Cheewowwas ? Not likely - too much like rats to me I cant even spell it

Here's half my litter snapped about ten minutes ago.

Pups that return to me? Depends - sometimes I find them a new home sometimes they stay. From memory in 40 years there has been 5 which came back. I dont want the dog back for breeding - if I wanted it for breeding Id keep it and if there is any chance at all in the future that you might want to breed with I need to know up front so I can be sure you get the right one. Female dogs have a unique reproduction system and if they dont breed they get sick so its either breed them or desex them .

Also Ive been breeding beagles for a very long time - almost 40 years and Ive put a lot of science into ensuring they are predictable. Lots of people ask for a more assertive one or a quieter one or a laid back or an adventurer but depending on when you are looking they really are all the same. You could come here one day and think one or the other is more friendly etc and then tomorrrow it will be another and it depends on how long ago they ate or slept etc . There is no way with my beagle babies that I could say one or the other is more suited to a family with kids or other wise. they all move around with their noses down and tails up, they all eat without yelling at the others, they all want a cuddle as much as any other .

I give lots of info out when someone puts a deposit on one of our pups. The pet ones get hints on training, feeding, beagles in general etc If they want to breed they also get a heap more stuff on testing, genetics, anatomy, canine husbandry etc etc. I also ask what type of environment the pup will come home to - will it sleep inside or outside etc and set that up here so by the time it gets home it wont be stressed and more used to how it will live form now on .Everything I do is designed to educate you, make you feel comfortable calling me up in the middle of the night if you have a question and being sure you know what you are getting and how best to live with it without you or the pup having a problem. if you get in early enough you have a choice but reality is that they all look like rats for a few weeks anyway and as most go out long distance they are purchased via photo. Sometimes people come out to visit and cuddle before they decide but usually it isnt a choice and there is only one or two still available. Usually by the time the pups are old enough to be up and moving they are spoken for so the likelihood of you getting to choose is not very high. I held this little boy back because I wanted to be sure about the hernia so he is 7 weeks old and not sold but the rest of the litter was sold by the time they were 5 weeks old .Id be surprised if this little boy is still available this time next week.

Im happy for you to ask me as many questions as you like. If you dont want to do that here you can do it privately .

I breed beagles. Price depends on lots of variables. I have one left still not spoken for out of my current litter and Ive reduced the price because he has a very slight umbilical hernia .He will go home with a vet certificate to tell the new owner that the hernia isnt anything that will cause a problem and it's so small if I didnt tell you he had it you probably wouldnt know - its about the size of half a pea but because I know its there Ive reduced the price to $750. I dont keep a waiting list unless you already have one of my dogs as at times we had over 100 on the list waiting which is pretty silly. So now I dont tell anyone they are due and I say they are here when they are over 3 weeks old .They sell very quickly and I could never breed enough to fill the demand.Girls are wanted more than boys and Tri coloured are more popular. Puppies which go out for show or breeding are sold at a higher price - because I put in more work on the people who are buying it, they get a different package which helps with breeding etc and I am much more fussy about being sure there is nothing which would be a potential problem for breeding [no c sections in the lines, no recessives etc]. So my pet puppies go out for $850 and main register $1000. People are always welcome to come here and visit to see the puppies before they buy but by far most purchase without seeing them and fly them home. Every pup out of this current litter so far is flying interstate.

Sorry about your loss - thinking of you. Julie

Agree - read it folks!! I don't care about repeated subjects if they are helping someone. I encourage speople to post if they have issues or questions. New people coming for help with real issues is never old. This however is about VOYERISM style posts which cry ooh look at this horrible thing that is happening on gumtree! It is RUBBERNECKING and IMO getting your rocks off on a bad story. Look look I care! Look how shocked I am!! If someone REALLY wants to help, then contact rescue privately if appropriate. Easy enough to find out how to do that in the rescue forum. Become proactive - not someone who gets off on telling people about the bad things they saw on another website. rant over........ Yep that's about how I see it.

Lots of great nominations coming in - just reminding you.

http://search.sweetim.com/search.asp?src=6&crg=3.1010000&st=18&q=nsw+dpi+breeding+dogs+code&barid={311F705B-A056-4EDF-A226-0732FF48AD38} IN NSW it is against the law to mate a dog intentionally on her first heat and against the law to mate a dog more than twice in any two year period. Ive never mated a dog before she was 12 months old but that's because my breeds do not come in season until they are over 12 months old so I've never been in a position to even consider it but for ever until the law changes were bought in we mated them on their first heat and never had a problem with it.

Id give him Aloe Juice - Ive seen that work miracles with ligaments and such BUT its not normal for dogs legs to do what you are describing for the reasons you have given and Id be wanting a quick second opinion.

Ooops forgot to say .Im so very sorry you have had this experience and I hope your dog makes a full recovery Some of the things which have educated me in the past couple of years which seems to be the norm in boarding kennels have astounded me. Makes you realise why pet sitting is growing in demand so quickly.

I don't know what they did or didnt do but you have a couple of avenues depending on what has happened. Fair trading and small claims will put it in dollar terms and you may get your money back but unlikely as usually their contracts when you drop them off keep them out of the liability - but there is their council, RSPCA and breaches of the code of practice for boarding establishments you may be able to make them wriggle with if its something that is covered by them. Are they a member of any other group such as PIAA or the MDBA ? If so you may be able to report them there as well. Is it possible for you to give us more info on what happened?
-
Again this kind of comparison takes us no where - kids are not property and there is a different accountability process. the RSPCA and AWL are appointed as quasi police forces with not outside accountability process and no requirement for transparency.

Come on - are you saying that buying a puppy from a pet shop that has taken them from a puppy farmer would be O.K. if they employed someone to screen buyers? Are you saying its O.K. to buy a puppy from a puppy farmer as long as they screen them ? Lots of people dont want to drive hundreds of kilometres to visit a breeder and see the environment a pup is raised in either and many breeders would prefer not to have to have their loungerooms inspected by srangers but this is what is being advocated. No live animals in pet shops - regardless of whether they are rescue dogs or not and its up to the shelter to offer surroundings where people can view them just as its up to a breeder. Since this is a thread about rescue dogs in pet stores my comments don't refer to puppy farm puppies which are a seperate issue IMO. Rescues need all the help they can get there are barriers to them that don't exist for most breeders, going to a breeders house to look at a pup is vastly different to going to a shelter the two cannot be compared IMO. This thread is about selling live rescue animals in pet shops and Im saying that if we agree to allow exceptions to no live animals sold in pet shops we will never get it to stop. Breeders have barriers that shelters dont have some live hundreds of kilometres from a city or airport and many of them are terrified of giving out their addresses because they live alone and feel vulnerable. My point is whether these are valid comparisons or not - whether you and I see them as the same sort of arguments and justifications for sales of live animals in pet shops they are ones which will be made and any work done on stopping sales of live animals in pet shops is back ten years. Where is the problem - take ex rescue dogs into a pet shop - promote the shelter and the dogs available and tell them how to get to them and be screened and purchase them from somewhere other than the pet shop - because pet shops shouldnt sell live animals.

bumping this.

Yep because we may be able to see the difference but the rest of the public are what will press for banning sales of live animals. Allow any to be sold and it muddies it up. If its not O.K. for dogs to be sold in pet shops then its not O.K. Keep deviating when it suits you or it can be justified and people will continue to justify it forever.

Sorry I think comparing what they can and cant do to child protection workers etc wont take us anywhere - primarily because all of that has an external process to deal with complaints. I am not accusing the RSPCA nor am I considering any particular case or incident. The fact is that this is a charity and therefore their accountability and processes are not open to the same type of scrutiny or rules and whether there ever has been corruption or collusion etc the opportunity for that to happen is there and the public need to know they have rights and a process to complain to an outside third party to be heard. Based on history and why the anti corruption legislation and ombudsman were introduced and the fact they are still finding that this type of behaviour and its still happening, turn on the news to hear of a council which is pinged for corruption almost weekly to consider that giving this kind of power to anyone is never going to turn up someone who has done the wrong thing is ridiculous. If it hasn't happened yet it has to happen and if there were such processes then we wouldnt need to be worried and accusations could be dealt with appropriately.

You missed the worst part of that story. They took the dog to their vet hospital, put it under a general anaesthetic and x-rayed it all without the owner's permission or knowledge to ascertain whether the dog was a natural bob or had been docked. I was so horrified. The owner had no idea their dog had been taken and it was a brachy breed to top it off. Unnecessary GA and the dog could have died while under and who would be responsible?! Not the RSPCA!! You're right I remember that now but I was so horrified over her bum going in through the window it slipped my mind. Pretty much what they did to the dogs which had been debarked. The owner had all of her paper work from her vet showing they had been done by a qualified vet and how but they still took em away and wouldn't say where , knocked em out, called in a very expensive "expert and did what they wanted to them. That's after they were examined by the RSPCA vet and declared all well and healthy and in no danger of being taken to a show which is such a dreadful thing to do of course.
