Yes I hear you. So true. I'm a bit "on the fence" on shortstep's comments about other registries. It is the "other" registries which enable Pitbull owners/breeders to register their dogs "legimately" to circumnavigate BSL laws. They also allow registrations in some breeds in colours which are not historically acceptable in some long-established breeds. How is this constructive? How can it be seen to be legitimate? Because sooner or later people have to get their heads around the fact that the ANKC recognise some breeds based on their own criteria. That doesnt mean its the right criteria or the only criteria to recognise a breed or that they are the only ones who get to say that their registry is the only one which is bone - fide. The ANKC have historically allowed us to register dogs which have not been acceptable in the ring on their registry. I know this because once 32 years ago I owned two liver beagles on main register and when I bred boxers I placed white boxers on the registry too with limited rego. In fact if all puppies have to be registered and they dont accept puppies on the registry which are not of acceptable colour - therefore assuming any acceptable colour which is born will be bumped off - every bloody animal welfare crazy will be all over them as soon as they hear of it. Every genetic expert in the world accepts 4 or 5 generation pedigrees as purebred and many breeds dont want to be associated with or have the ANKC keep their records. Sure some of these registries are dodgy because they are accepting cross bred dogs etc but I dont believe a registry has to automatically be the clone of some off shoot of the industrial revolution in the UK to be given a tick either.

Yep When we agree to license our dogs we agree to give over our ownership right to the licensing agency, which can at any time revoke our use rights. We grant them absolute control over our animals. They can come onto our real property, and remove our transitory property (dogs) without due process of law. The places which require licensing can refuse to issue further licenses, and revoke the privilege of dog ownership. Mandatory dog licensing is the initial step in removing dogs from our ownership and or stopping us from doing certain activities with our dogs. A license is a temporary revocable permit that allows the licensee to have something or to do something that would be illegal to have, or to do without the license. It makes dog ownership illegal. It turns over all ownership, and use rights to the licensing agency which can at any time, inspect, confiscate, suspend, revoke, or halt issuance of the license. It’s a way of taking away your property without compensation and the same goes for the "permits " being introduced all over the place for people to be able to keep entire dogs. Say no to more laws.

Latest News On Syringomyelia In Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.
Steve replied to bet hargreaves's topic in In The News
The government wont get to ban Cavaliers they will be extinct before that because no more are being bred. Unless of course, non registered breeders and puppy farms make up the shortfall, as they are in Aust. No pedigrees, no tests, pushed off to the pet shop, no responsibility for anything by the breeder. And sorry, a huge percentage of pet buyers expect all tests to have produced positive results and that the dog will not suffer from any health problem which the breeder may or may not have been able to avoid. And they do not understand if there is no definitive test, there is no guarantee of good health - as with SM. Since I first began breeding I have given a guarantee against hereditary health problems. And I would happily do that with SM - but I would not want to be responsible for producing a dog which suffered. LATEST NEWS ON SYRINGOMYELIA IN CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL By a Strange Co-incidence, in this Week's DOG WORLD printed here in Britain , there is a Veterinary Column written by Steve Dean, who is very Influential in the Dog World here, " he says that we all should feel sorry for the Cavalier People who have TWO Horrible Dilemmas in their Breed ,a Significant Incidence of Heart Disease and Syringomyelia . To have either Problem is Bad Enough ,but to Handle Both at Once is a Real Dilemma and will take Great Fortitude. That the Choices for the Cavalier Breed are Few and Uninspiring. That to help in the Uphill Struggle Ahead for our Cavalier Breed ,is for ,Vets , Geneticists ,Scientists and and Dog Breeders to work to-gether ,gather Good Data, and apply Good Science and Common Sense to those Problems and Probably Progress can be made." I think Steve Dean's Article says all that I have been trying to get across to you Folk, that the Cavalier Breed is in a Mess Heath-Wise at the Moment, and it will only be, by Finding the Genes for SM and MVD can the Cavaliers have a Future. Bet Hargreaves Bet out of the above quote you got I think Steve Dean's Article says all that I have been trying to get across to you Folk, that the Cavalier Breed is in a Mess Heath-Wise at the Moment, and it will only be, by Finding the Genes for SM and MVD can the Cavaliers have a Future. But he didnt say that he said "the Uphill Struggle Ahead for our Cavalier Breed ,is for ,Vets , Geneticists ,Scientists and and Dog Breeders to work to-gether ,gather Good Data, and apply Good Science and Common Sense to those Problems and Probably Progress can be made." I have no doubt that you have gone about what you are doing with nothing but good intentions but you have to try to grab a bit of commonsense too and understand the potential and probable negative consequences of the way you are doing it. What you took from that article is one of doom for the breed and anyone with any power and little knowledge who are usually the ones who make laws and regulations knows that the chances of finding the genes based on what the deseases are may never happen let alone happen in the near future.Lets not forget that All mammals suffer with the same diseases including all breeds and mixed breeds and cross breeds. What he did say wasnt a message of doom but one of hope and you could have just as easily taken his words to say that there is hope for the breed if we use the methods at our disposal and stay focused on getting it right. If you want your message to be what you say it is - tell buyers to only buy from breeeders who test their breeding animals - Im all for that but when you say the only way the mess can be fixed is by finding the genes that is distorting the entire issue and doing nothing to help the breed. -
yours should be there .Can you give me an invoice number?

Guidelines arent laws. If its policy with airlines though it will be hard to dodge.

Why is it so? A beagle weights around 12 kgs full grown. A stud bull weights around 1200 kgs. Yet I can keep a hundred bulls on my property and no one cares about what I do with the poo - with 6 beagles what I do with my dog poo is a major drama and I have to have special septic systems to deal with the dog poo to get my planning permit. 6 beagle's poo is about half a bucket all up per day and a cow's poos is about [at least] 3 bucket loads a day. I would have to have 36 Beagles to make as much poo as one cow. In a 100 acre area in suburbia based on average numbers of dog ownership stats there could be up to 2000 dogs in that space yet on a rural property with no close neighbours you need to jump through incedible hoops to be able to keep 10 dogs on the same amount of land. I can kill a rat in a trap and allow it to take hours to die with broken bones or poison it and allow it to die slowly over a period of days but if I kill it by putting it in a freezer I will get a thousand dollar fine and animal cruelty charges. I can get the vet to kill my dogs but I cant get the vet to debark my dogs. I cant get a vet to dock my dogs tail but I can get them to inplant fake testicles. Very strange world indeed.

If thats true its only since last Friday. I flew a puppy to Melbourne and all I needed was the con note.[From Wagga].

;) Should have marked them "do not bend" to account for the idiot factor.

Oh well I dont agree with you.I dont think these questions can be fudged anywhere near as easily as most and the answers tell you everything you need to know about the breeder.I think pet owners can learn to ask these questions just as easily as they have learned the stuff thats been circulated to date.

From now on anyone who wants one can buy them through Troy's shop. Give him a minute and he will let you know they are there. Julie

Thats how I felt too -the support was over whelming and its difficult to find the words to explain how grateful we are.

Over and over again, we see people who ask "how does the public know the difference between one breeder and another?" How do we find a good breeder. there have been many attempts usually driven by people who have an agenda to promote their own group over any other or by animal rights and others who have never bred a puppy. For me its about the answer to questions every breeder should be asked and be able to answer. One is - 'How did you become educated and stay up to date on issues relating to the science and issues relating to dog breeding in general and things which specifically affect your breed? Next is " How did you choose which dogs to breed?" What were the biggest challenges for you in producing this litter?' Then 'How do you assess whether what you have done has been successful?" That sorts em out.

How wonderful a new breeder! First thing is to ask yourself what it is you want to end up with as your major goal. Money, pets to go to people to allow them to enjoy what you have,a champion, an agility dog, allowing the kids to withness the joy of watching babies being born etc. Will you sell them all as pets or do you want to keep one for yourself for future breeding? Once you have that bit worked out you can look at what you are prepared to compromise on and what you have to cover in order to get that and make sure you are making babies which are healthy, well temperamented which look like they should to enable them to have great lives with their new families. How will you find them homes, will you be responsible for them for years to come if their owners cant keep them anymore to help find them new homes,or will you sell them to a pet shop, or not care what happenes to them for the next 15 years. Where will you whelp them, where will they grow and run for 8 weeks, what if the bitch gets into trouble ? Do you have the money to take her to a vet ? Do you have the money to provide vetting and food, worming and comfort to the babies.Do you have time to clean up after a dozen poo factories and do you have the ability to keep them indefinitely if you cant find them homes by the time they are ready to go? How will you creen the people who might be interested in buying them and how will you educate them and what will you provide with them when they go to their new homes. What will you do if after they go home they develop something which you may have been able to avoid if you had run more tests or had more knowledge? If you havent covered the necessary testing and ensured you HAVE done whats needed to be as sure as you can that you are not making babies which will get sick - especially in Victoria you run the risk of being sued or even charged. Do you have the required permits in order to be able to breed dogs at your property ? Better pay $150 and do our introduction to Canine Breeding course - it covers all you need to know before you muck it up. www.mdba.net.au

If I go into someone's yard - similar to stepping out on the road I know there are certain precautions and things I should address in order to stay safe. If Im walking along a footpath and a car comes racing along the street and mounts the footpath and knocks me down its a bit hard to ask me to be prepared for that and peopel shopuldnt have to be concerned about stray dogs running in packs will race up and grab them any more than I should be prepared for a million other things society assumes is under control.

Well Im sorry but I think sometimes dogs are born that way and while you may be able to train them to behave most times in controlled situations I dont want to live with a dog which may react badly when its under pressure.I dont expect anyone else to have to do that either. As a breeder if it bites for no good reason , is given the benefit of the doubt and then has another go its gone.Im not interested in how it might behave after training because I think temperament is bred in and if I didnt think that I wouldnt have a preference for particular breeds. It doesnt stay here, it isnt used for breeding and it doesnt go out for anyone else to have the pain in the neck. If the owner says its got a nasty temperament then they are in a better position to know than anyone and personally I think its responsible behaviour to decide whether they think it will be O.K. with other people or not. I know trainers dont agree with me but there's not a chance I would have a dog which has been thrown out of home for biting here around my kids no matter how well you tell me it is now its had some training. Ive been around and lived with a hell of a lot of dogs in my life time and just as I wouldnt live with a man who hit me I wouldnt live with a dog that bit me.I wouldnt wish the man on anyone no matter how much therapy or training they gave him as I would always believe if he did it once he could do it again and I wouldnt want to live near a child molester either for the same reason thats how I think about dogs which bite. If you came here trying to tell me you could train it out of them I wouldnt care - if it bites its on its way to God no matter how spoilt it is.

People need to follow the law and keep their dogs contained and on leash.People shouldnt have to go about their daily business with their senses on alert to know when they may be attacked or set upon by dogs at large.People shouldnt have to know what to do - it shouldnt be able to happen.

What's your invoice number? I dont know who you are - real name - to be able to look you up.

I used to breed boxers before they told me we coulnt dock them any more and now and then I had a white one.I knew before I chose the dogs to mate that this may be a probability and had made up my mind before I did the mating about what I would do with any which were white. I found them homes and they live happily ever after with their families and none are deaf or affected by cancer. However, since then I have come across two people who decided that white boxers were great and they have been breeding white boxer to white boxer now for around 5 years. Most are deaf and several have skin and eye issues. If I were still breeding boxers I wouldnt bred a flashy to flashy so I wouldnt have to make the call because I understand now that its not as simple as it appears.

And while we are at it- How is it that I can make a decision to have my dog killed without a second opinion because its my property and yet I cant decide to have a vet lower its voice? Is it that those making laws do really think its better for a dog to die than have its voice lowered?
-
Yep thats what I think - Id also like to know how they deal with vexatious complaints.

In NSW and Victoria if you dont vaccinate your breeding dogs every year its a crimminal offence unless you have a get out of goal free card signed by your vet that they have given you permission not to vaccinate. Its enough to have your breeding permits pulled at least and in cases where they want to ping you for anything its most definitely used against a breeder. Heard of exactly this just 3 days ago in one Victorian shire. Its one of the laws RSPCA can police in NSW and will soon be able to police in Victoria. In NSW you can give your dog a vaccination which you can purchase off the net - you cant in Victoria so you have to have a vet sign off that the dog has been vaccinated. I dont need to point out that protocols for vaccination say dont do it right? they may not rock up just to check vaccination certs but I promise you if they come in for anything else they use it.
