  1. Breeders advertise here on the condition they are current members of their state's CCs - If the breeder is located in NSW then as a current member of their state's CC they HAVE to provide registered pedigrees to all puppy buyers. So Im assuming you will receive a pedigree soon via mail but in your position I would email the breeder ask about a receipt and when you can expect your registered pedigree.
  2. Except that the law says dogs must be on a leash unless in off leash areas and that isn't enforced. Owners, including special owners who visit this forum, think they should be exempt and walk their dogs off leash. English and European countries dont have THESE kind of problems because their dogs can go anywhere but have to be under control and there are heavy penalties if they dont ensure their dogs are contained and no annoyance for anyone else. We have laws - just that some dont respect them and no one enforces them. We shouldn't have to discuss "all dogs can be aggressive etc" we should be discussing some owners can be idiots.
  3. In my opinion you should take the second bowl and a jug of water with you put that bowl in as you are taking the first out and fill it right there on the spot. there is not one second then that the bowl is not in the cage or not with water. If you do what you are doing and take the bowl away there is a risk that a photo can be taken when you are cleaning the bowl and putting it back to accuse the shop of not having water bowls or you can be distracted and having the pup without water for longer than a minute. Even a minute is enough for a photo shoot if someone wants to ping you. Cover the pup and cover your ass.
  4. Im not sure who its with but it rubs me up the wrong way when they cant just make the request without telling me its for some other purpose [wanting to buy a puppy] because they think that will make me more open to helping them.
  5. There is obviously someone who is running a course who is requiring the students to get answers from breeders regarding their breed . Questions take a fair bit to answer and cover Not sure if its just my breed they are targeting in their research or if there are hundreds doing the course. I dont mind answering but - its the same questions and Im getting about 2 a week so I simply copy in what I gave the last one and tell them to come back if they dont have what they needed. Today I get one with exact;y the same questions, same wording etc but instead of being up front about why she wanted the info she pretended to be interested in buying a puppy. I answered and was nice - just said isnt that a coincidence some students have asked exactly the same questions in the same way so here you go hope this helps but have to say it's no big deal but it bugged me just a bit. Anyone else getting this request from students? Makes me feel like Im doing their homework for them.
  6. True not everyone who chooses not to desex their dog is responsible but in my experience MOST are and they do care if their dog falls pregnant . To the OP. Some people think they have found the answer to preventing unwanted pets being surrendered or dumped and they focus on that - cant listen to or discuss things they may have missed when they were determining the answers or learn. Not much different to anyone who has a belief and become fanatical about what they decide is the answers. Pick a group - any group and if you dare to have a difference of opinion or do things the way they have determined is the wrong way it leaves you open to a flogging .Purebred breeders are capable of judging and having a fair go at making the world see things their way or no way and kicking the hell out of anyone who dares to say or do something they dont agree with too. If you make your decisions based on what you believe is best for your dogs - you are judged by the person you see in the mirror and that's really the only one that counts.
  7. I have Maremma genetically selected to bond with the people and animals they live with but after living with them for over 20 years and having them as pets and working with our sheep and chickens as much as it breaks my heart I dont think they love me or the species they work with and I dont even think they are the ones that bond .Everything about them from the minute they are born makes you want to love them and be in their company .The way the puppies simply lay like ragdolls and look into your eyes like a human baby just makes your heart melt - every bit of their body language designed to make the animal or human they are working with believe they can trust them and rely on them for protection and safety - and they can. But I think for the Maremma its just a job. When they are taken away from the species they work with or their everyday job and environment they do get stressed but I think thats more like taking a country kid and dropping them in the middle of the city with strangers. I think dogs are pretty smart and get to know what gets them more reward and learn behaviours that make you love them and do what they want you to do. Give them company , comfort and warmth and food etc. Humans have selected dogs to have certain characteristics and behaviours but have we been able to set the ability for a dog to love us ? I dont think so but then again - what is love ? Ive had people in my life who I have loved and I believed they loved me but that sure did set me up for some pretty serious kicks in the head too.
  8. See edited First Post Re Hannah Orr Ont two weeks to get your nominations in
  9. They tell me its a money thing - cant afford the staff required to enforce what is already there. I say but if you put someone on to enforce the current laws and they really did then the fines would easily pay the wages - even just on micro chipping and registrations. Perhaps they need to employ subcontractors who will enforce the laws and keep the fines. You can just see that happening too - might loose too many votes. the point is pet shops should know they are vulnerable and do what needs to be done to ensure its always done and not just when they think someone is watching then there could be no photos - sorry no sympathy for them. If the council has to inspect anyway due to a report then in my dream world Im hoping they make em put in systems so it wont happen again.
  10. All of the above but most importantly to promote the breed and encourage new people in who will also have the best interests of the breed. The CCs are often beaten up because they dont promote the breeds but this is the job of the bred club and the CCs cant liaise with every person who wants to have a suggestion or input to them so it is done via the breed clubs. For example Without a breed club instigating it Labs would not have to be hip scored for registration etc.
  11. Yes manipulating photos and telling lies is a well known animal rights tactic but surely by now pet shops should know they are at risk and ensure they dont get caught with their pants down. Im the first to agree that some who foster and or rescue are pretty rotten but I do take objection to an assumption that there are no checks on some foster carers and rescue or that they all can be judged equally . Ive no doubt that if rescue dogs were in a shop with no water someone would say something - it may not be beaten up as this is but if you think rescue has some how been exempt from bad PR better look again.
  12. Well part of what the council should do is to tell them they have been spotted and ask what procedures they will introduce to ensure that its not possible to have that happen again. If what they come back with isn't adequate to be sure its now covered then tell them to try again until they get it right. Its in their own best interest to pick up their act and learn from it rather than simply mumble about animal rights loonies for the sake of the bad PR for their business and welfare of the animals - puppies who are stressed and die due to dehydration dont make any money either. You can maybe get away with one mistake but if you dont take action and learn from it no point in trying to defend yourself.
  13. If pet shops don't know by now that some people are against them selling live animals and will take every opportunity to catch them out they will never know. Its 100 % likely to be beaten up and made to sound worse than it was to help the cause and the pup hadnt been out of water for long or it would have been telling everyone it was thirsty but they got caught and they should have seen the potential if that is their system in changing water bowls. There are water systems which can be raised off the ground which dont get soiled and cant get tipped out and there is no reason what ever to take a water bowl out take it out back clean it put it back in and fill it .What happens if they get caught up with a customer and forget to come back etc . Its not that hard to have a second bowl to drop in as soon as you remove the old one and a watering can at the ready to fill it before you walk away. So for me whether they were cleaning the bowl and in the process of changing the water or not this is not relevant and not a defence. As a business that sells live animals they need to identify the risk factors, train their staff and put systems in place to be sure its not possible for a puppy to be without water even for half a minute.
  14. Before you pay annually do you see any changes to the policy ?
  15. If the policy conditions have changed surely they have to notify you of this before it gets to claiming - the whole thing sounds a bit shonky to me. Surely before your renewal is due they should send you what is changing and give you the opportunity to agree to continue on or not .
  16. They say they have no breed specific exclusions
  17. As do pounds. And some breeders and some rescues Sadly, yes. Probably more than some. Yep I was being politically correct
  18. Im hearing that when people sign up on line they dont receive a hard copy of the policy from some companies as it is assumed it is read and agreed to before signing up .I havent checked to see if this is true but personally I think there should be a requirement for a hard copy and a cooling off period in case you pick something up when you actually get the chance to study it properly .If you are signing up on line read what you are getting and print it out and go over it before you pay your money.
  19. I wouldnt take as gospel the account of either side and nor could a court or anyone investigating but anyone who is actively working against pet shops and saw that opportunity would take it and if the pet shops don't want to stand accused and have their photos taken when they are exposed then perhaps they had better clean up their systems and ensure as one is taken out for cleaning a new one is back in with no time frame in between.
  20. As do pounds. And some breeders and some rescues

But Moosmum you over look the desire for protection of the breeds - and its the parent clubs of the breeds that have ultimate say on whether a stud book is opened and what criteria is required for registration and admittance into the gene pool -what will and will not be admitted and this is done because it is what is believed to be the best way to protect the breeds. There is nothing natural about it - purebreds result from un - natural selection.people always have the ability to choose to breed papered or unpapered dogs, or to cross breed dogs or not. Given that purebred CC registered breeders only breed about 9% of the puppies bred in this country per annum it seems to me there are a hell of a lot breeding dogs who have the freedom to decide what dogs they breed without the CC restriction. How does a rule for members of a group about what stud animals can or cannot be used ensure further legislation for puppy farmers?

Sorry - I wasnt meaning to lay all the blame on his doorstep and a hell of a lot of what he said was true anyway. It wouldn't have been able to take off as well as it did if it were not already started and he certainly wasnt good enough to be able to wear too much of it on his own but it was around about that time that it became a good idea for people to breed dogs to make money cross bred and pure bred and that led to a whole bunch of people who wanted to profit from it not just the breeders. I agree that there were many variables involved to get us to here we are but this whole idea that all of the ills perceived can be snuffed out with legislation that is not able to be policed is crazy.
