For any single body to work and to be successful all other bodies would need to cease to exist . Why would purebred breeders want a majority of people who dont understand purebred breeding to represent them? My belief is that we should all join together and focus on what is best for the species however I do not believe that what is best for the species is to breed puppies which are not predictable .My group offers education and unity to all dog owners - no one needs to be a member to complete courses or join in discussions etc ,rescue members do not need to only help purebreds and there is no restriction on how many dogs a person can own or breed however, our breeder members agree with us that purebred dogs are what is best for the species we also have a great relationship with other groups who are different in base philosophies including the puppy farmers group - and we regularly have loads of input into current issues pertaining to dog ownership, rescue and breeding. Im not saying breeding cross bred dogs without the aim of developing a breed is wrong but its not what we do and I personally would not want a group of people who was made up of people who didnt have this view to represent me or my needs as a purebred dog breeder. Why would all other bodies cease to exsist ? The idea is to promote purpose in breeding and share knowledge of ALL aspects of breeding and ownership, to promote responsibility in those undertaking them. You would represent your own needs, much as happens now, but maybe with better support. Clearly I dont have any concept of what it is you mean .There are already many groups who feel they are promoting purpose in breeding and sharing all aspects of breeding and ownership with an intent to promote responsibility in those undertaking them.
  2. Me too. I miss the feeling of community ,family too.
  3. These awards are now in their 8th year and we are now in the last couple of weeks for you to get your nominations in. The awards are designed to place a focus on the positive things people do to make a difference in any way relating to any activity related to dogs. Nominees and those nominated do not need to be MDBA members. This year there is a new category - Fundraiser of the Year sponsored by Silver Eagle Outfitters Australia which gives people a chance to say thank you or shine a light on those who have done any kind of fundraising for a dog related cause . This category has been included for two reasons - obviously the first is because these are people who have few opportunities to be officially thanked as they often work in the background and we would like to know about them and make them feel appreciated and lift them up but it is also hoped that by placing some focus on the fundraising opportunities associated with dog related issues that more will consider having a think about having a go. So many dog related groups could benefit if more people who cant offer fostering or similar considered this. These are people who help in any way from conducting sausage sizzles , running market stalls, selling raffle tickets right up those who take it up a notch. There are viable volunteer and career opportunities related to fundraising activities and canine related event management too which we would like people to consider as we place a focus on fundraisers. There are 23 Categories which cover everything you can imagine relating to anything dog related so please take this opportunity to lodge a nomination and allow us to make those you nominate feel rewarded and appreciated for all the small and big things they do for dogs. Dog Owners Choice Awards
  4. Yep load of crap and it has me buggered why anyone would put their dog at risk of a deadly disease on something like this.

Thanks GL. I am still learning how to express this and never sure if its understandable. All for dogs, For all dogs. :D Christina, I don't think "puppy farms" should exsist at all either. But while we accept that only restrictions can lead to improvement, that we can legislate our problems away, ( With a big stick, how about a bit of positive training? ) commercial puppy farms ARE inevitable. They don't have to be. I agree with this but while ever you have animal rights and animal welfare educating breeders on how to breed dogs and having the legislators introduce regs which are not based on science - and some purebred groups going with the flow so they dont look bad and just giving in to it - no hope. Regs on kennel housing are fashioned on how to house boarding dogs or pound dogs not breeding dogs - all of the husbandry and management are based on crap and not science so before you can have your group being one dot effective you have to work out how to shut up the loud noise which plays a political game and hold the power.

  7. Buying from interstate is always fraught with risk. Australian consumer law still applies - he didn't get what he paid for - he could send the puppy back and ask for his money back. If he'd gone there to pick the puppy up - he could have looked at it and left it there. It does cut both ways, the breeder has to do their research and the buyer has to do their research. Just because the breeder has a pretty website with FIGJAM testimonials on it - doesn't mean they're responsible. Same with the buyer - you have to find a way to verify what they say from some other source. O.K. First up most of my puppies are sold interstate and I never meet the buyer - I would never treat a puppy buyer the way she treated him and what sort of registered breeder slips in a dud without saying so because he didnt go and pick it up personally - no excuses she was rotten and based on how she presented herself clearly should have known better. Im not sure if he went there himself that he would have the nounce to see the problem with the jaw and the ears any way . He has certainly no experience with rotten jaw lines or knowing what ear mites look like and in my opinion most puppy buyers wouldnt either. He has grown up with purebred dogs and me but Ive never had a dog with a rotten jaw or ear mites to educate him on what to look out for. So for him going there without someone who knew what they were looking for would have had the same risk - he was happy to simply trust the breeder would do the right thing. I went over the pup and read the vet report as soon as it came out of the crate but if I hadnt have been there he wouldnt have known there was a problem until his first vet visit - even the fact that the vet report had a bad jaw circled didnt bother him until I said what it meant. - and its not just a tad under shot it's really undershot I would never sell a pup with a fault or any kind of issue without telling the buyer and allowing them to make an informed decision on whether they still wanted to take the pup. the one thing that buyers should be sure of when they buy from a registered breeder is that they get a pup with all the boxes ticked. He is aware of what the law is but once that pup was in his arms it was never going to live anywhere else and if a buyer is what we say we want them to be no one is going to simply send it back as if it is a faulty TV .He knew he was buying a living being and will honour his obligation to take it now it is his but the breeder sucks. My point is doing research wont help because human nature is the wild card . He did his research alright and everything he saw was what I saw with no reason to suspect that the breeder should be drummed out of SA dogs
  8. Well I don't have questionnaires and I don't require checks or photos but I do talk a lot and listen a lot - if there is something in our conversations that makes me hesitate or not trust you then its no dog. You dont get to choose unless its a breeding pup. I show you the one you can have if you dont like it you dont take it. Over the 40 years Ive been breeding Ive had a couple who didnt turn out the way they should have but that was the result of life changes which no one could have anticipated and a yard or where they lived had nothing to do with it. If I dont trust you no inspection would change my mind. Some of the best people Ive ever met own my dogs and several travel to visit me and are great mates - sharing with me their puppy and dog stories for a decade and a half until they come back for another. One of my sons recently purchased a pure bred dog fro m a breeder who is advertising on dogz who had him jumping through all manner of hoops - as she was from another state she sent her aunt to his place to check out his home and see if the kids were feral and his yard and neighbourhood before he got the tick of approval . When the pup arrived 2 weeks ago I went with him to pick it up from the airport . It has an over shot jaw which was noted on the vet certificate by the breeder's vet but never mentioned to my son before the pup came home, it had ears full of ear mite and it was full off round worm. when my son went back and said "hey you didnt tell me I was paying $3500 for a pup with a crook jaw and it has ear mite a war broke out and the breeder said none of his issues matter as he wanted a pet and thats what he got. Hung up and now appears to have no interest what ever in the pup's life or who it is living with for the future. i want to have relationships with my puppy buyers born out of a mutual interest and trust and respect way into the future so when I speak with them thats what Im listening for - I don't need to start that off by making demands which make no difference to the type of people they are and how they will love and look after one of my dogs for the whole of the dog's life. Seriously how could I possibly tell someone will love my pup forever, stay in touch and see me as a safety net by looking at photos of them and where they live?
  9. I didnt leap to any assumption that you were deliberately trying to do anyone out of donations but truth is that as it stands its a bit confusing and some may not mean to be donating to you when they do. Just make it a little more clear - simple
  10. I think they should tag that donation button to read "make a donation to Petrescue " so there is no confusion - its misleading as it is.
  11. They cant just shut down the businesses as long as they comply with all the laws - especially as they are the ones that pushed them into investing the kind of money for infra structure they have. No self respecting dog breeder who still has a thread of a love of dogs would ever make their animals live the way they have to unless it was mandatory in the first place.
  12. My link This is the best book you could ever own in my opinion
  13. Dogs NSW Code and regulations A member shall ensure that within 28 days of the date of sale or transfer of a dog to another person that documents, as required by the Dogs NSW Regulations Part 1, are provided to the new owner of the dog. 22. Upon the sale or transfer of a dog a Member shall supply the new owner with a current vaccination certificate signed by a Veterinary Surgeon evidencing that the dog has been immunised against Canine Distemper, Hepatitis, and Parvo Virus along with microchip documentation Regulations Part 1 Except where hereafter provided, an application for the registration of a dog must be made no later than the day on which the dog attains the age of 6 months, except under extenuating circumstances where application for registration of the dog may be considered by the Board of Directors. (11/08), (06/13) Also many breeders hold registration papers [some provide only a copy] until a contract has been honoured such as desexing etc
  14. Dogs NSW breeders must supply papers when they sell a puppy. If your puppy is from NSW, contact Dogs NSW with the details and and copies of emails, etc and get them to follow it up. Im a Dogs NSW member and based on the fact that I chip at 7 weeks and the pups go home at 8-9 weeks its impossible for me to have the papers in my hand and be able to hand them over with the pup. Last litter I registered them on the day they were chipped - I had them back about a week after the pups went home but there were two errors which I had to have corrected - if they are waiting for DNA it would be longer - but you only have 6 months from dob to register them.
  15. Yes I should have known that and it did hit me soon after I wrote the post. Nothing they have done will stop animals from suffering and all it does is run off the small guys and favours those who invest hundreds of thousands and keep hundreds. Then after their laws actually encourage big to get bigger they tell us they will bring everyone down to 10 - who do they think they are fooling?
  16. The microchip laws are different in every state and unless the breeder in NSW registers the chip on two registries it wont show until you do it yourself when you get the pup home. Its still a chip and its still changed over into your name - nothing sinister here. Breeders in NSW also have 6 months to register the litter - Im sure there is nothing to worry about
  17. Yeah but I would rather they just yelled and said 'look out ' rather than going in - id hate for them to get pinged.
  18. Yep might be following mouse holes - Ill get someone onto making sure mouse holes are spotted and filled in but Id never trust anyone or any system for being sure they arent here - never let the guard down. it's a never ending job - I know . I guess the maremmas have some protection with all that coat , thankfully . Stay safe! The Maremmas spot them a mile away and nip in pick em up and sort of crack em. Awesome but scary to watch. We have learned to not distract them and stay back .Last year one was tossed into the side of the shed and was dead in 2 seconds - no matter how much I complain about that bitch shedding on me and barking when I want her to shut up and not doing a thing she is told Ill ever be without one at my side.
  19. I dont thnk you can expect people who have never had experience with grass seeds to just automatically know its something that can create such a problem for dogs especially if they live in suburbia where its not as common as it is out in the boonies where we swim in them.
  20. Years ago I took a beagle bitch in for a Csection which I assisted with - as the vet went to put tubes down her throat we noticed a grass seed stuck in her throat - must have only just got there because it was simple to take out but without that C section there would have been a hell of problem.

  22. Vets used to be seen to be above most others of the population and regarded as being ethical and all the rest . Then you have a good look at how many exploit animals and do all manner of things including being some of the biggest puppy farmers in the country and you start to question how you can tell the good from the rotten.
  23. I fell for it - spent 3000 on snake repellers and last year had a dozen or more snakes here - a couple only a foot or two away from the repellers We are the only source of water around here mid summer for a couple of kilometres so it doesnt seem to matter how hard we try they still come in. Last year mid Jan we saw 5 brown snakes at one time in our lavender crop - obviously attracted by the drip system watering them. We put in concrete footing under all colour bond fencing and the buggers dig down and come in under it . The Maremmas took out 4 of them last year so everywhere I go they cover me. Heaps better than a repeller.
  24. How do they expect to be able to tell the big guns that have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to comply with their crap codes who have hundreds of dogs on their property to "phase them out to 10" ? Seeing is believing.
