Back to the OP - notice they are saying they will restrict number to a max ten in domestic breeding facilities - commercial breeders will not have any more restrictions on them now or ever. Smoke and Mirrors folks. http://thisislabor.org/Protect-puppies
-
And this one - they will limit numbers to ten in DOMESTIC Facilities - smoke and mirrors. http://thisislabor.org/Protect-puppies
-
Oh I see - they aim to stop any NEW DOMESTIC establishments with more than 10 dogs .They are not shutting down or even limiting commercial breeders. http://www.danieland...on-puppy-farms/

Are they seriously telling us they can wave a magic wand and remove people's rights and simply just shut down already established businesses after they have made them spend hundreds of thousands to operate?

Owning and Breeding dogs is a legal activity and its difficult to see how one state can restrict someone's ability to do what they want on their property as long as they comply with codes and laws and restrict trade anyway. It means people in other states have the ability to own and breed more dogs than Victorians.

What a bloody joke - if having only 5 litters per bitch and needing a post partum vet check is really needed to be sure its done for the benefit of the bitch and not vets then why doesnt every single bitch come under this legislation? Nothing based on science and all still a crock.

"beware Of Dog" Sign Makes You Liable?
Steve replied to aussiecattledog's topic in General Dog Discussion
It depends on position of your house on you property. Council, Police, Utility all have right of access without risk of attack or injury. So gates separating the front half of the house from the rear are great - in our case we have double gate system which enables us to drive in and out and the front 1/3 or the property ( the house block is 1/2 acre) readily accessible. Police/Utility readers etc wouldn't be considered trespassers so it wouldn't really be a defense if the dog bit them regardless. Same as if you have a dog in the front yard and someone comes in to ring the doorbell and gets bitten - they aren't trespassing so you can't use it as a defense. Your set up is the ideal! Unless you have the sign removing implied access permission .If you have this sign then anyone entering without a warrant is trespassing -
The RSPCA can only operate under the law.

Fertile or not Fertile - Dogs are hard work My dogs are not hard work and everyone is fertile but then I never thought 8 kids was that difficult either . Putting licences and permits and yearly inspections on people wont do anything to stop dogs suffering. All it does is chase off those who love their dogs and their breed and leave more demand for huge establishments. More big establishments because it so expensive to breed a handful of dogs with all their crap regs.
-
No safeguards here. Now people like this evil piece of crap can call themselves "registered breeders" because they register with their local council and the ignorant have no idea how this differs from a proper registered breeder. This is so abhorrent, the whole story is very distressing. I wish people would be forced to look at it - the people who buy in petshops, online and through newspaper ads. Even then some wouldn't give a crap. The safe guard is supposed to be the code of practice - which the people who were checking say she is complying with .No point in making people get a licence to have the tick to do this more and more and comply with a code that should never have been there in the first place. Poor dogs.

"beware Of Dog" Sign Makes You Liable?
Steve replied to aussiecattledog's topic in General Dog Discussion
In Australia there is an implied permission for someone to enter your property and come to your door, read your meter etc so they are not considered to be trespassing until such time that you ask them to go. If they enter under that implied permission and the dog attacks it's a potential issue for the dog – and the person but if you remove the implied permission for entry via signage which says no entry then anyone that does enter is trespassing. -
Calendula is a member of the Asteraceae/Compositae family. This is plants such as ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds, daisies, and lots more flowering plants. It is possible to build less tolerance to them over time and many flower growers have developed allergies and intolerances slowly so its all possible. The stuff I formulated for you is herbal/natural but none of it is from a plant used for its flower to try to side step this possibility. Calendula cream is based around a cream base produced with water and the oil used is infused so there may have been even a slight change in the type of preservatives etc used to produce it too.

O.K. but this has almost 25% fat so keep that in mind - its not usually the consistency that causes pain and reflux, vomiting etc with HH its the acid and fat content . -

Ive only just noticed this thread. Not sure how much this will help but you never know. The food you are feeding will probably increase the discomfort from the symptoms rather than help – canned food and chicken stock and vegemite is in my opinion probably the worst thing you can choose. If this were my dog I would feed foods with no fat – lean raw meats such as chicken, salmon cut into small pieces or minced but don’t buy pet mince as it has too much fat. For now you are aiming for no fat and no spices. When he feels better there are some others but not yet. Add Eggs, grated or pureed apple, banana and other fruits [no citrus] with some Aloe juice [ if you tell me his weight Ill give you the dosage] add some coconut oil or olive oil for the good fats too. Find another way to give him his meds the vegemite is hell for HH sufferers maybe try honey instead. Slippery elm is good too. Give half a dozen small meals each day rather than less and see if you can feed him with his body, head elevated – maybe in your arms or him standing up on the chair back with you feeding him form the other side of the back of the chair etc. Remember the absolute worst thing that can happen is for him to get stressed so anything you can do to be sure he is stress free will help. Keep a diary and note his symptoms so you can match foods which antagonize it. -
Are you talking about "ALL" Rescue groups or just the dodgy ones that are being mentioned in this thread?? Maree CPR All rescue groups will pay for the dodgy ones if more laws and regs are introduced to try to cover the dodgy ones.

And dont be surprised when rescue is stuck with more laws and regs either. You make it hard for everyone.

Who said I am not a Registered Breeder? I am registered as a Domestic Animal Business as I have 15 Fertile dogs. As I alluded in my previous posts, I have a big family and a farm the size of Melbourne so we have the capital and room. These dogs help us work the farm and yes - We are apart of a few clubs and make friends and we are the go-to people if friends, family or someone with a connection to them want a puppy. We have a lifetime guarantee with our puppies and if for any reason they wish to return the dog - Even if they are 10 years old, they can. Our Beef & Wool (Sheep) Business is where we make money. I enjoy the dogs and my kids love it. Again, I am confused… What is a Backyard Breeder? Someone that doesn't pluck their dogs and powder them up to enter them in a show ring? Just look at the Mature Dog section of this website to see how many Show Dogs are needing new homes because their owners think they do not meet their Showing requirements. I think it is inhumane and sickening that someone can do that to an animal. It is like telling the Doctor after you have given birth, your kid is ugly so you want to put him/her up for adoption. Again, read the DEPI code and I can assure you no unscrupulous breeder can unethically breed in Victoria. If they do they are acting illegally. You are a domestic animal business but do you register your dog's birth and record pedigrees with a registry? do you provide a registered pedigree with your puppies? Do you do any genetic tests? To you score for anything prior to breeding them?
-
karentrimbo - I get some of what you are saying .I breed my working dogs to get another good working dog but Im also considering what they bring to the future of the breed and Im very fussy about where they go and what happens to them after they go to new homes. A puppy farmer sends their puppies off to market and thats that just as you do with your sheep or cattle.

A backyard breeder is someone who mates dogs without testing them, without profiling a pedigree, uses a convenient stud, places them with the first person who comes along and has no interest in what happens to them next. No interest in how what they have bred impacts on the breed.

A puppy farmer is someone who sees their dogs primarily as stock just as you see your cattle. Where profit is the sole or main priority.
