The pink bubbles have gone down a treat, and a treat again and again ;) and I raised a glass to Blaize (RIP)! Not sure if I will pass my next test - getting up at 5.22am when the alarm goes off. Have just remembered that I am on call tonight - now sweating and praying that nothing goes wrong Thanks everybody for all your support - I am one very happy little vegemite

This is a bit of an off topic Yee Har For those of you who know the saga - my nightmare is finally over - settlement went through this arvo You should all be hearing the sound of champaign corks popping - think I have pulled a hammy from doing backflips Back to normal viewing now........

So any special tips on teaching a SFE?
-
FHRP - give it a break for a few days - then put out one unscented metal and right next to it so 5-10cm apart at most put the scent one out - but try putting some food smell on it - so if you have chicken chunkers/cheese/forlegs etc in your hand while scenting the article. For these sort of dogs you need him to realise that there is more than one article out there. This scented article will be the one you used for the next few sessions. If he is unsuccessful and still brings back the wrong one - let me know. If successful - do it again - rescent the metal with the food again. If he gets it right twice - then try adding another unscented article, again no more than 10cm away.

Well done!! That's brilliant RS. Out of sight stays are one area I know we will need to work on heaps! I am confident we will go straight into Novice from CCD but training for Open will take a while. I think I'll give Daisy a bit of a break if we get both our CCD and CD titles before the end of the year and will try for Open next year. Daisy has got the basics of the dumbell down pat and will retrieve it over the jump but it's not polished at all and we have tonnes of things to work on. I'm still struggling to get a CCD/Novice 1 minute trial scenario sit stay out of Ruby, she still likes to lay down on occasion if she's hot or bored. Especially the bored part, if she's got nothing to look at while she sits there then she leans down to eat the grass (her favourite pastime!) and that leads to her then forgetting what she's doing and lays down to have a good old munch. Down stays she loves, it means she's closer to the grass I had serious trouble in our saturday 'special' group class, there are 4 of us G has invited to train now and then on a saturday morning, Mason kept lying down, I would go back and make him sit, he sat for like 3 seconds and down he lays again!! Mason is the baby of the group so its important to me that he can do what the others do and his stays are normally excellent but on saturday he could not do it!! So do tell us - this special group that you are a part of - what were you working on on Saturday? I have discovered a problem - I have rewarded Soggybear so much for sitting and waiting - when I call her she just sits there and goes - nope this is a set up

I did originally say yes - but have not filled in any forms or paid any money and have in fact forgotten when it is. Life is a little hectic at the moment
-
I think I will get another lab, the only reason I would like another one is so that I can compete with both and then Mason also has company when I am not home. I think he must get very lonely with only the cats for company HMMM and my next puppy will be........ another red head Yep I would hate the others to get lonely :D

Sure why not the more the merrier Well I'll be in Bunbury and don't mind travelling for a good club , Does any one know anything about the Bunbury obedience club and do they have many members trialling ? I use a slip collar and positive reinforcement , toys treats etc so the club would need to allow these , and i like to have a bit of freedom with my training . I suppose I'm looking for a club where theres a lot of trialing experience and support and no nastiness :D I used to be a member of BUnbury Its not a very big club and no they don't have very many members trialling at all. Sandra Yearsley would be the person to contact regarding training days and information. PM me for her email address.

OK - ducking for cover ...... In my opinion Obedience Trialling is worlds apart when comparing WA to SA :D and you should see the difference pretty quickly in terms of positive training. Judging is very similar - I actually really really like some of your SA judges

and fingers crossed that you win lotto between now and then to be able to pay for it Remembering that a dog from the US can't travel until 10 months of age at the earliest (all related to rabies vaccine) - you will also be paying board for the dog between 8 weeks of age and when it can eventually fly to Oz. Add to that a month of quarantine and Keep saving......

I was always considering a Beagle for my next dog, then the Aussies caught my eye. Who knows, I may go back to a Beagle, Daisy is an inspiration Gees and I thought that I had found a new home for Beans ;)

Bedazzled - hows the dancing coming along

Three novices - I hate it when you only know a smidge more than the dog

JulesP was it you that lost your lead??? If it was I take it that you found it again I am interested to find out if your most advanced at herding is also your best at obedience and if so are they the oldest? WOW regarding the distractions - I sure would have loved to join in I took the first 10 minutes of class today - it was probably more like 15 minutes - and I made a note that next time I will take my toy basket down as I am sure none of the dogs have ever done any distraction work and Soggy Bears SFE are getting better

OK - I pencilled in July as Lexi's UD debut - BUT - I have now broken her box (hmm sounds sinister doesn't it ) - luckily I didn't say which July I think we have reached the stage in UD training - where everything was going really well - so you start thinking about entering and then one by one the exercises start to go pearshaped. Today I took her to a new oval to train and I had the jumps a lot closer together than I usually do - so she started going over the jump on the left to get to the box Then she became ever more confused and started looking for her seekback - so back to breaking it down into small pieces again. Its very interesting/hard training three dogs at three different UD levels and making sure you don't expect too much from the novice UD dogs. You have the occassionally clever dog who should be able to do all this blindfolded, but does have blonde moments/trials/days, then you have the novice UD dog who is really no longer novice - but she stuggles with distractions and is easily switched off and then you have the really really really novice dog, who breaks very very easily, but who makes you smile with her enthusiasm All so different ....... Note to self - need to makes some new friends who can help me with stays especially now Rubystar is into open

Yep I get it in sterio - 2 of mine are howlers

I have just come home from the beach and I am exhausted. Little Lexi, who is only knee high to a grass hopper made friends with a labrador who was retrieveing things 70m off shore - and yep - out she went through the waves and I didn't think I would see her again, following her new friend. Scoota and Lara thought they would then join in the game. I discovered that drop and sit meaning absolutely NOTHING when you are an OC and are at the beach - had to resort to screaming like a fishwife and why is it ........you take 7 dogs to the beach and all 7 of them have to "poo" So they are now all bathed - the towels are washed, car cleaned out, dog are all fed and I am ready for a nanna nap
-
Yep I got a text message giving me the news - but DOH I had left my mobile phone in the car so didn't get the message until way too late. Terrific news Rivsky - 192 is a great scores in what I believe to be very wet conditions. Yee har - I will open a bottle of wine on your behalf to celebrate

Ptolomy replied to Tay.'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
COP definitely as its a lead in to UD signals. Hardly anybody does broad jump now in WA. -
