  1. If he has been there two days now and has not toileted at all, bladder or bowel, I would be really concerned. You say you've left the door open, could he have snuck out and toileted when you weren't looking? He maybe doesn't want to go out when asked for fear he'll be locked outside or will be then leashed for the suddenly dreadful 45 min walk - just guessing here. If he in the past has played happily with your dogs both indoors and out and is now "aloof, lying in doorways and under tables" to me this could indicate a dog with pain issues of some kind. I know you said he was vet checked but I wonder if a second opinion would be benefical? Could you try him on a mild painkiller and see if it makes a difference? If he is not going to be happier at the parents I would probably keep him on, if it was me, especially if I felt the parents may not be as cluey in observing possibly ill dogs...JMO Too hot to sleep here I am posting on DOL - you too?
  2. Excellent place to keep the other half, for sure! That boofy great bunny looks set on terrorising that poor liddle puddy tat though! And the star of the show looks like she would rather be elsewhere
  3. Any reason why temporary shade (i.e. shadecloth 90% on a home-made frame) could not be put over the runs and taken down when they are moved? You would then have more options for landscaping establishing permanent shade once the temporary runs are moved. Or have I got it all a$#e-backwards?
  4. Gorgeous! Amazing what a difference a haircut makes, isn't it? Like trying to recognise your butcher without his apron or your chemist without his white jacket! So the little flat face at the front is a whippet? I can't tell the difference either LOL Seriously, I thought I knew my breeds and I would have said the chappie at the back was a young Afghan, not a borzoi at all... so it's not just the general public who get it wrong! I have heard Joe Public pontificate to his child "Look, there's one of those fluffy greyhounds" and I've turned around to see a lovely borzoi!! Not so much a problem these days, but a few decades ago I was constantly being told that my pugs were miniature bulldogs and that my mastiff must be their mother Mum had a mini-wire dash, pugs and a griffon - more than once visitors assumed that the griffon was an accident, that the mini wire had got to one of the pug bitches!
  5. LOL Bisart doesn't sound to me like your girl wastes time actually asking for things - methinks she just helped herself!! Last time I looked down thinking how can that boy be making so much noise with a nylabone it turned out that he'd helped himself to a new chew toy - the toilet brush holder!! My fault - I hadn't closed the door properly, but they do choose some unsuitable chew toys, don't they?
  6. I would agree with Bull Arab mix, maybe one of the larger hounds in there or a little Dane - those are seriously long legs to grow into.... although she is getting into that puppy age where they can have legs and elbows everywhere for a while. You will probably have trouble getting through because she is flat out with MDBA awards right now but I know that Julie (STEVE) has had good success with diet supplements getting distorted feet and joints (on rescues) back on track. I am sure as soon as she can spare a minute she would help...worth a PM anyway. I actually wouldn't rush into a giant breed puppy food without a consult with a canine nutritionist or large breed specialist first... but those feet and legs are repairable with correct diet, supplements and correct exercise I'd bet.
  7. I would be getting a full medical work-up and discussing with a vet you trust. It all revolves around how well you think he would cope in a new situation. If you, and your vet, think that he has a fair to middling chance of adjusting well then I would be rehoming him, or if time is really short then handing him over to a reputable rescue for rehoming. (If the latter I would be giving the rescue a fat donation as well.) But if you come to the conclusion that he would have a lot of difficulty adjusting to change and would stress out then IMO it would be kinder to send him over the Bridge. You love him, I am sure you will decide in his best interests, whatever they may be.
  8. Sending good vibes for Leo, he is a survivor, he will come through with flying colours... I know what it is like to have your heart dog go under the knife, even for minor proceedures, try to bear up! If any of mine are in surgery, I usually have no fingernails left before they are through!
  9. No effect on the cat & dogs - in fact my most recent addition, a foster (failure) Puglad thought it was another chew toy until I moved it out of his reach! Can't speak for rabbits/hamsters/guinea pigs etc. and I would think it fairly obvious that if you had pet rats/mice this would not be a good thing. I have no idea how effective the 1000, 2000, 3000 etc models are as I only have the 4000 - it's great! EFS.
  10. Yup you are right and I did agree and apologise, it seems that has been ignored though. May I suggest that you add the apology to your first post as an edit? That way you won't be putting yourself in the way of getting judged so harshly. That first post did push quite a few buttons IMO and not everyone reads all the way through a thread before responding.
  11. I hear you! The field mice and rats used to get in here and wreak havoc, until another allbreeds forum put me on to ulstrasonic repellers. I understand there are a lot of shoddy brands out there that don't work but I can vouch for this one: the PestContro 4000 I have not seen a mouse or rat or evidence of any since a week after I plugged it in! (except those lovingly deposited by the Boss Cat ) The silverfish population has not been affected much although other creepy crawlies are definitely MIA . I've never met anyone who had had to pay the RRP of approx $120 there are heaps of good deals if you keep an eye out. So don't need to use poison here anymore.
  12. No, no, no - blue would clash with my new decor. Rye with ergot points would be perfect, thanks.
  13. Actually that pic is from after the rescue people had fiddled for a while don't worry it had plenty of mould when I got it from Deshonko, that was another great selling point the Deshonko pure breads are never over conditioned. It cost a couple hundred dollars more than a papered pug from a registered ethical breeder would charge but being a rare Grainpug and available when I wanted one it was worth it. I hope they have a rye one for me, I need one by the weekend.
  14. Dear Deshonko Kennels, here is a picture of the pure bread Grainpug I bought from you last year - she grew too big for the breadboard plus I have redecorated my house so I rehomed her to a rescue place. They had the cheek to say she was really badly bread because of the skin fold infections and entropion - they wouldn't listen when I said that you had explained that these were a special feature of her bread..some people! I now need another one but do you have one in rye please to match my new lounge?? Thank you.
  15. That Jindo pic in post #7 looks to have a very dingo-ish head. Not inposssible that the dog in question had some dingo in it. Yep definitely report every incident to the local ranger, if similar happens when there are two of you there, one should break out the mobile and snap a picture of the offender AND one of its owner.
  16. There are experts on here who can give you sound advice, and hopefully will. I suggest that you and your husband would really benefit from having a trainer come to your home and advise you. Maybe re the itching you need to explain more clearly to the vet what is happening, how often and that the shampoo didn't help. Tests could be done in case she has a contact allergy - for instance, a ground cover, the carpet or even the detergent her bedding is washed in might be the cause. One thing I will suggest - when she starts the chase-me game, don't play! Turn around and walk away, totally ignore her until she comes to you. Yes, you may have to delay whatever you were planning to do (put her to bed, put on the leash and go for a walk or whatever) but she will learn that that game isn't played her way anymore. Even if you haven't meant to you both have been playing that game with her and she probably thinks you enjoy it. It goes almost without saying that until she is 100% reliable to come straight to you when called, never have her out the front or in any unfenced outdoor area without a leash. Although it may not have a bearing in this instance, some bitches get an urge to wander when they come into season, if you have her desexed that would no longer be an issue.
  17. In Latin it was used day to day in exactly the same way 'farewell' is used in English. Goodbye and goodwishes in one word. These days it is most often seen heading an obituary, goodbye and goodwishes in the next world sort of thing.
  18. why spring water? The oils are really good for them. As long as there's not a lot of processed fats in their diet, I drain most of the oil, but leave a little when I feed sardines or tuna. i was under the impression it was more the olive oil, fish oil that was good for them, the oil used in tuna and sardiens is usally vegatable oil, (Sigh). The oil is actually very good for them. (In moderation, of course.) Sardines in oil are usually in soy oil - this produces a shock reaction from people who haven't actually read the studies done on feeding soy to dogs. They have read the media blurbs on the study and passionately believe that soy products are poisionous to dogs. In fact those studies were done on dogs owned by vegans and the ONLY protein these dogs were fed was sourced from soy products. Although none of them outright died from it, it is certainly true that the study found that their general health, especially skin and coat, was not as good as dogs fed on animal proteins. (Not surprising, eh? ). Nevertheless, some people will remain determined (to the death!! ) that sardines in soy oil are poision to dogs. Pity, IMO the very best diets are those that regularly include protein from varied sources (red meat, white meat, fish AND vegetable proteins). If you are frightened of soy oil, rather than purchasing sardines in spring water I would recommend more bang for your buck by buying mackerel canned in oil (it is mackerel oil, don't panic!! ). Woolworths/Safeway goes a very economical generic in this. And (apologies APBT) olive oil is a vegetable oil too!! We know what you meant though!! Unbranded "vegetable oil" is often a mix of sunflower, canola and peanut oils... And ummmmm, Sheridan, you have me confused - if vegetable oils are not natural, then what is a natural oil??? The only oil I can think of that occurs naturally without any processing is the petroleum type stuff which does gush straight out of the ground...I doubt that that would make a good diet addititive though!
  19. You haven't said whether your tiles are ceramic or slate or terrazzo or quarry etc or how they are finished ... so it's a bit difficult to recommend anything. This builder's website gives you links to various products: Popular Anti Slip Coatings The best ones are quite pricey, a temporary and cheap solution might be to put down carpet protector runners as pathways in the heavy traffic areas. Also (please don't feel insulted because this is so obvious, I'm just trying to help!) don't use a high sheen product when cleaning the tiles...
  20. Another free idea - if in your microwave cupboard you have one of those donut shaped cake bowls, feed him from that. He can't get his whole face in at once...
  21. Dogs are a part of your family and will adapt to your family's ways. A few decades back it was fashionable in some circles to fast dogs once a week or once a fortnight. I don't think any of them ever died from that... When I had school age kids, there had to be a fairly set routine, and the dogs would get fed twice a day pretty much by the clock on weekdays and slightly differently on weekends. Not only did they have in-built clocks and would start "reminding" if dinner wasn't in their bowls within 15 mins of the "usual" time, but they also had in-built calendars and wouldn't do the reminding on weekends! Public holidays and daylight saving used to throw them a bit!! These days as I am a shift worker it is very different. They get fed every twelve hours approximately. Sometimes that is midday and midnight, sometimes 2pm and 2am, etc. etc. depending on my shift at the time. Even more confusing, I don't feed "breakfast" and "dinner" anymore...but three differently sized and constituted meals in regular rotation. My 15 y.o. girl tries the "reminder" now and again, I suspect she has fond memories of the more regular days...ah, who am I kidding? I have a breed that thinks they should be fed every half-hour with snacks in between.
  22. Hah been there done that. Not safe to defrost and then refreeze if feeding raw, durn it. Hacksaw and a lot of elbow grease works, but once you've got the blade a fair way in don't ever, ever stop moving it LOL!!! Learned that the hard way! My ex swore by the chainsaw as a quick and easy method - but he wasn't the one who had to scrub down the (external) walls and decking afterwards... My final solution: my good old Wiltshire electric carving knife using the frozen food blades (only thing they ever did get used for LOL)!

Was it the same size as in the pic when first seen by the vets or has it got a lot bigger since? Insist on a UV lamp exam and if that clears it for ringworm, then a skin scraping for mites. Please let us know what the verdict is. Edited to add: Hey, 5 weeks and they've never been outside? So never exposed to direct sunlight? Ask your vet about psoriasis. You need sunlight and diet change and some topical meds to clear up psoriasis in pups.
  24. I would think it likely that they did do aspirations but these are often not definitive. Check that with them. Why not ask for a full blood work up (might be nearly as expensive as a biopsy, but less intrusive on your JRT) and if there are no contraindications in those results, then I would leave him be.
