  1. We have discovered the exciting activity of water rescue in conjunction with the Newfoundland Club of Victoria. The dogs love it. It is a combination of two of their great loves: water/swimming and retrieving. What are some of the more unusual activities that you do with your dogs?
  2. I would highly recommend the K9+ soft crates. I have had two other brands and the framework does not last very long, especially if you are putting up and packing up regularly. I also like the ventilation options with the K9+ soft crates compared to other brands. For bedding the snooza beds are great. Cool in summer and warm in winter. The covers come off and the entire bed is washable.
  3. I agree SC. And so many breeds that people don't associate with search and rescue: greyhounds and small terriers, not just Goldens, Labs, Shepherds, Dobs and Rotties. All extremely loved and well cared for. All highly trained. All volunteers.
  4. The Working Dogs of 9/11. http://sun-gazing.com/workers-described-ground-zero-as-hell-on-earth-but-the-dogs-just-went-to-work/
  5. It goes isqueak balls then cuz in this house. The feet do not last long if left with the dogs unsupervised, hence they are training toys only. However, Zeph loves the Chuckit orange balls with the blue stripe. You can get them in various sizes, with ball chuckers to match.
  6. OMG, Zeph would love to move to your place. Balls on tap. He loves the orange with blue stripe Chuckit rubber balls. Yes he has a preference. Don't ask (rolly eyes). He weighs 46kg and his collection of balls would be around 80kg. Do you have a dam, river or water course that he could swim in daily? He needs to be cable tied into any crate. The metal ones he uses his head to push the roof up, his front paws to pull the wall down and he is out. All without making a sound. Or he pushes on the door until he can squeeze out. He can also use his nose to lift the latches on his sister's crate and break her out. Hence she is desexed. Do you still want him???
  7. So he's outstayed his welcome? Feel free to send him to me... *grin* T. How big is your ball budget T? The excess luggage cost to fly him over would kill me. In fact it would bankrupt the Reserve Bank.
  8. I love the balloon photo :D I am saying a baker's dozen and roughly around 500g each puppy. Nova is looking very healthy and happy
  9. Yes Yes Yes Because the temperament and health of the puppy are two of the most important considerations for me when adding a dog to the family. Another consideration is ongoing support from the breeder. So if they are not willing to allow me to see the parents then they are probably not willing to help out should any problems arise with the puppy/adolescent.
  10. Ummm, Zeph was only supposed to stay for a week. 5 years later he is still here :D and has well and truly placed his balls under my bed, my couch, the coffee table, all over the backyard........
  11. teekay that is a beautiful photo. They are so relaxed with each other. Love the old camera Impatiens.
  12. So extremely proud of you right now :D Voted.
  13. Trufully, some of us have houses that eat socks. This started with me because I have brothers. We always had lost socks. Never had a dog that contributed to their being lost. But lost they would be. In the end, Ma would only buy the same boring black sock or white or blue. Then she had hopes of matching pairs. I have the same troubles, It's a good day when my socks match. So very true. Zeph loves to bugger off with one of my socks. Just my socks. Not OHs. And only one. He hides them in his crate, scrunched up in his blankets, under his bed or in the loungeroom. I have given up trying to find them all at washing time and just wear mis-matched socks. It is easier that way. (insert rolly eye man)
  14. I was going to say the same thing re: fun. I'm coming to the conclusion that it's a Rottweiler 'thing'. lol I'm the lonely loony in a sea of GSD's and Malinois. Oh I know that feeling of being the odd one out very well at the moment. Zeph and his brother Flint are doing water rescue with the Newfie club. Let us just say that they are known as "The bald Newfies"
  15. I love how patient and lenient Warrior is with the puppies. He lets them win, and re-engages them when the game is over. Brilliant.
  16. Make it fun, lots of fun. Oh and I am my dogs' biggest handicap at any trial we enter.
  17. There is something special about Aussies and their personalities. They are not as serious as BCs, but have that same wonderful working ability. SG they loved to play chasey, it was their game every morning.
  18. Some Dee puppy photos for you all The same size as her teddy bear The feral cat tickler look Some Puppy behaviours tend to stay in adulthood
  19. I love this photo. The upside down look is so very common.
  20. Baylee was taught to be gentle, but she was allowed to tell Dee off if she bit too hard or was annoying. Both had their own crates where they could go when they wanted some time out. Each was trained separately in obedience, sometimes walked together and sometimes walked apart.
  21. Some more play photos with Dee aged 4 months old and Baylee aged 6 1/2 years old
  22. We have always just let them interact with each other out the back under close supervision. This is Baylee with Dee a few days after Dee came to stay permanently.
  23. VM she was a gorgeous crazy girl who knew how to have fun
