  1. There are often Vari crates advertised in the for sale section(rarely the members section) There is one there now in QLD for a large Large vari Kennel (size 5) $150 Airline approved used to import dogs from the USA. Location : Burbank QLD Contact : Ann on 0414 419890 After that cheapest i have seen them is in Melbourne at High four pet supplies but i would place a wanted ad ,people are often getting rid of Varis & the prices are very good & always accepted on airlines . Otherwise if just for flying consider hiring as varis area pain in the arse at the other end
  2. The most important thing is grooming to your dog faults. Stripping toplines & tail sets is individual & you need to now what the good & bad are of your dogs as to how much to strip or save. Just like stripping shoulders & clipping down.you need to look at the neck, shoulders & decide how much bib to leave & how to shape the shoulders ,you can be very creative & haide alot or create something that isn't there
  3. Op shops are another great place for Jackets & even pants I wear white & its easy to stay clean but its just as easy to wear your daggies to the show due to setting up .walking & prep time then pack up time . Generally speaking you would only consider showing in black with a black dog to hide something & that sign tends to go off for judges. You don't have to wear black though cream, beige plenty of other colour pants out there
  4. I had a dog who was a bad suffered badly. We found apples helped & for bad attacks tribacterial tablets from the vet . We also accepted that was part of his life & that the more stress & change in his food the worse it was . We didn't feed any bones or raw foods . We stuck to simple food items. Your choices up there will be limited or very expensive . I would also go to the chemist & buy a pro biotic to help gut bacteria / Our dog was feed tuckerime Garlic roll & dry plus apple ,his attacks would last 2/3 days & would hit the blood stage , We never had weight issues though . Worming on an already sensitive tummy could cause issues & not something i would have done unless there was a worm issue. I would be doing chicken/pumpkin or sweet potato for as long as possible
  5. The dog shop in WAells wahl one sided at a good price & they should last for ever provided you take care .They also sell the small straight for feet . Both cost around the $ 70 . We buy those from there & our big time scissors from the US . The Stone you can also buy from the dog shop "slick n easy " about $6 this is used on the head,i also use it to strip the legs, feet & shoulder area ,stripping the kneck & can be used over the body . The stone is great & i would suggest at present all you need. Even in the US they will clip the necks but you need to blend the throat & i do a combo of thinners & stone on the Setters Stripping knifes are like how long is a piece of string & how much do you want to spend . We have hundreds of dollars worth of stripping tools & each have there use for coats & sections . If you want some help at the show with gear i am happy to assist ,i show every weekend in Perth .
  6. If she chews her feet i would treat it with tinea cream, often the chewing leaves them moist they become itchy ,chew again so Tinea is an issue, you can just dunk in cheap vinegar aswell. Personally if i had a dog that chewed i would also consider bowen or a chiro as the dog may aslo be sore & chewing for relief . Most allergy suggest Roo first off ,i feed roo to one of my show dogs who didn't havea an issue just liked it but it turned him orange . Turkey can be very rich so either it agrees or it doesn't (more the runs than anything else)
  7. You may be limited in choice, next weekend is the start of school holidays but alot of people leave before that. We are booked out for next week so i would suggest you also phone as many as you can & see who has a spot as well
  8. I would never risk looking after a dog that has dislike issues unless you are truly set up to cater for it & be prepared to keep separated. Nor would i knowingly expose my own dog to one that displays such behavior, your dog is young & at this stage doesn't react back but one day things may change greatly ,don't let your dog pay the price This person needs to make the effort & go to training or seek so help
  9. I know others who have used Scandipet in Sweden especially when the people at the other end atrn't experienced
  10. The key is you need to be the dogs distraction, you need to be more interesting than the outside world. If the dog is rolling over then stop using husband dont make it habit. I would be going over the dog in a non show style fashion, when you walk past just casually run hands over, check the mouth just do a potluck thing & make it no fuss . Does the dog roll over straight away or only when going over the body ??
  11. Maybe she feels unsure with you due to being pregnant You keep saying growling when moved asleep. What do you mean ??Are you shifting the pup whilst asleep ?? If so chances are maybe you startled her doing this & she hasn't forgotten.
  12. What is the pup like when being brushed & groomed?? I gather she has had a haircut so what did the groomer say about her behavior??
  13. This is Dallie judging from Westminster you will see the good, bad & often some little things that you can try.It is the worst ring size so making that short time you have is a must Each dog is different but first off you must have an idea of what you are wanting . I have never used show stackers ,i prefer to train & encourage that love for the ring. I do now some that use them with great success but these are also people that do other training as well. I have seen many dogs trained on them that look so lifeless & terrified to move & still A framing because whilst they may stand still they can still learn bad habits on them unless you encourage them to work on them I often prefer to stack my big dogs on a table all are trained on one till 10 months plus we have a big mirror The main thing is videoing yourself & using a mirror/reflective surface .If you can't get to classes askpeople at shows to help some trainers can see one aim & sometimes so variety can work wonders . Your technique maybe confusing but it sounds like the dog isn't sure so you need to teach free stacking & reward as much as possible ,it is very easy & can be done during playtime with a ball, toy anything instead of saying wait say stand, teach dog to walk in walk back or fix foot ,its about learning to use that lead ,its like a steering wheel for the car ,do the wrong thing & the car will do what you ask
  14. Tibetan Terriers are wonderful dogs but the biggest claim to fame is being a climber .They will climb anything if given the chance, They do very well at obedience & thrive in agility. They where my main breed in junior handlers for years . As already mentioned training & the criteria you want comes down to you . I guess the main features you need to decide is if you can't go to the park due to the weather then are you willing to put the mental stimulation time in at home having a courtyard only, Do you want a dog that needs brushing TT need regular brushing or you get them clipped off but then they just look like a nothing dog. Personally forget the black as already mentioned no one will sell you a black pup unless it will suit your child which means you will either be waiting a long time for the right pup or for that colour to appear in the litter . There are many breeds out there that could fit what you want . Although one thing to consider is often black coats & swimming can end up faded or reddish. We breed Mini Schnauzers & those who want blacks & go to the beach we tell them that the coat can fad & to be prepared for that
  15. Yep always condition my long coats but it depends on the coat texture you have .
  16. Yep very personal & what works for each dog . Personally i start with what i want as an adult the only difference is i use a thicker cloth choker for the pups until normally 10 months or how advance they are . But that may change on the dog aswell & then a lead more suited to that dog will be used . So what are you using to train pup on now & wht don't you like about it & what do you hope to use long term
  17. It isn't wrong to play BUT you in 3 weeks will go to work where she is expected to be alone for many hours so she needs to learn now & yes means ignoring her . But this also applies no matter what . What you teach/allow now is what they expect is normal. If you go back to the pen all the time then that is what she will expect is normal. If the pen is to be her home whilst your out then that is what happens in the pen ,you ignore her unless its for a toilet break BUT i gather as she will also have to toilet in her pen when your at work that she also needs to be taught that toileting in the pen is fine as well which can be confusing but something you need to train her to now When she isn't in the pen then you can have fun & do what one does with puppies but you need to teach her what you are expecting from the pen & that is when your at work that she is happily to sit in there ,if you go back all the time she will howl when your at work waiting for you time like normal & it becomes very confusing to the pup. We don't praise or reward for leaving or going we also don't do the routine of a kong or anything else, Our dogs are taught what we expect for the life & that is life doesn't end when we go out. We drill it into our puppy owners that whilst pup is cute, fun & you want to s pend forever with them & often think its a puppy it will learn latter that the puppy pays the price with confusion or owners decide at 12 months they suddenly have a monster or issues that need retraining because as puppies it was acceptable . Our dogs sleep on the bed, havea doggy door & a re very much part of our family BUT they are dogs & as such treat them in manner they deserve not humanizing them , Your pup is still young & yes looking for companionship & love which it will get BUT as you have decided to have the 3 weeks to adjust pup you must be very conscious that at the end the pup won't now where everyone has suddenly gone so yes it is a case of tough love for its sake . Yes you ignore howling, jumping or any behaviour that isn't alerting you to a toilet break,if you rush to the pen each time you are teaching it to get what it wants which is you not what you are trying to achieve. I
  18. Don't praise or play when she is quiet. She wont understand its a reward but what she will understand is after a set time you come back & make a big deal out of it. First rule of puppihood is what is cute now isn't cute at 12 months & as much as people wish to spoil & treat them like a child they are a dog & when treated like a dog are wonderful pets . Dachshunds can be very demanding & very vocal dogs but they are very hardy dogs that enjoy life. So what you need to decide is what the plan is for the next 6 months whilst you work. Will the dog be in the pen during this time or in another room. Whilst 3 weeks of is great you NEED to make sure it isn't 3 weeks of being spoilt & pandered to because it will be harder on the pup in 3 weeks than if you had a few days off as it will think you are home . First thing is people under estimate how easily pups adapt & often wake them or disturb them into being needy. If pup is in the pen & is quiet just leave it during that time it doesn't exist for it to learn to be away form you its needs the people to do there part .The main thing with Dachies is they love being warm, they love to hide under things when asleep so look at the bed ,cat beds are often great for Dachies as there like caves .
  19. The difference in price is how long they last , We do full time grooming & whilst the cheapies may do similar they generally fall apart for basic use handle wise so your cheapie ends up being replaced so not that cheap.
