  1. We have never ever followed the vets no exercise,if the dg is sane onlead then take him for walks,he will not damage his stitches walking . What is the dogs daily activity level ,what do you do to make life fun for him?? Some dogs will chew things to simply get the attention it may be lacking & being told of doesn't off phase them as it is attention. I just read this on another of your posts He also takes great delight in "stealing" things - he'll snatch a item and run off with it and if left unchecked, tear it to pieces. Many many many times a day. He enjoys being chased and considers it a great game, but if I don't recover the item it's as good as gone. Chewing gets rewarded with a fun game ,sounds like time has come for some new rules & respect . Has pup been to obedience school ??
  2. When you say generally fit & healthy is there something that she suffers from. Some skinny Boxers when feed up end up with the runs so feeding up needs to be monitored . What exactly have you feed & quantity wise ?? We board a number of skinny boxers a number have done great on Royal Canin Boxer often its a malabsorption issue so things like thrive D can be helpful. I do feed ice cream to any of mine that get skinny but they can stomach it . I did have an entire bitch that after 2 years we decided to spay due to weight issues & once spayed she put on weight easy . Also some young Boxers just take time to settle . How many times a day do you feed her ?? Bowen massage can encourage appetite aswell
  3. Set times means expectations, pups learn very quickly what set times are & providing you are happy to do the demand thing that is fine but we teach our pups that food comes when it does ,this doesn't mean they don't get feed but we don't feed as soon as we get up the priority there for us is traing pups to go outside to toilet ,have a play & when we are ready or its suitable pup gets feed. Our dogs learn to sleep in aswell.we don't set the alarm for clock work night toilets. If pup cries we get up,if no noise we don't disturb they also learn quickly that at midnight last night & the night before they got attention. We breed & show so all the dogs are taught from day 1 that good things come to those that wait & that we also set them up for the routine we expect latter on
  4. Nope no set times here ,they learn that food doesn't come on demend. If we get pups from the east we will wean them in to our routine simply because of the time difference & them being hungry at different times but they soon learn
  5. Mine are frequent flyers but the main advice i would give ensure your crate is well labelled for contacts not just yours . I laminate a sign with my name frequent flyer # (easy check for info Flight number coming/going contact number ( i normally put someone at both ends if possible or someone who will be able to deal with an issue if dog is loaded etc etc I always watch the dogs being loaded on the plane so i check luggage then go to gate asap ,if i don't see the dogs loaded i have asked the staff when free & they have on the 1 occasion checked no drama;s If flying Virgin well you can't pre book seat or ticket until dog is lodged which is a pain . The airlines do have sparky ties to tie crate door but i carry my own . I have never had an issue with my guys needing to wear ID collars but have had tags made if i feel the need to use one east with contact more suited to being out of state
  6. Most people can't follow offleash etiquette & believe there friendly dog can do as it pleases so you aren't going to stop the other factor either. Plenty on DOL have posted about things they break the law about or believe it doesn't apply to them & they get educated but don't care. Then you have the band wagon brigade who support any new trend when they don't have a clue
  7. Haven't had a dog with this issue but we board many epileptic dogs & those on high doses are like zombies . Was this her first time for seizures because that many in one day is an awful lot if she had no history prior too
  8. If they fly excess baggage you don't pay anything if your plane ticket includes excess baggage already (and if it doesn't its only about $20 to include it), I flew Daisy a few months ago as excess baggage and it cost me nothing. I believe flying through AAE costs the same regardless of whether you fly with the dog or not, but I didn't realise that some airports don't let you fly the dogs as excess baggage through the terminal. It sucks because it adds extra time the dog needs to be crated and Brisbane -> Perth is already quite a long flight Welcome to the world of big dog owners who have had it this way for many years Trust me the cost is not the same if it was my dogs would fly east more often to there breeders to be shown
  9. Depends on the combined weight, Flying dogs isn't cheap anymore as excess baggage ,prices went up about 4 years ago . I use to pay $75 each way for near 50kg now i pay $220 each way
  10. Don't stuff around at the airport. Photo's & the likes can be done at home. It is a very noisy place with alot of activity & you are strangers,People have lost dogs when picking up because they have been to slack . Chances are pup isn't lead trained so walking wont be that simple. We just pick pups up & leave the sooner we get home the better
  11. As the title says excess baggage i presume it is flying with a Person. Yes it can travel that way i fly yearly with my dogs from Perth . Perth has never allowed dogs in the airport they are simply lodged at AAE. I don't think many airports now take dogs via the main building anymore. With AAE you will need to give the details to AAE when booking & they will send via email the paperwork that needs to be filled out & handed over when lodged & an estimated price . I have always booked direct through AAE for dogs ,they have just changed there dog lodging system over
  12. We all do things that are annoying but my biggest pet peeve would be people who allow there dogs to piss up your gear . If it does happen just tell the people ,yes we may be annoyed but i would sooner wash it of whilst wet then fold up my gear & see dried piss up my walls,. I have had dogs wee into my dogs crates whilst in them too ,up chairs, grooming box & anything that in all honesty is set up within a camp so the owners have had to go out of there way to allow it to happen . A little thought goes along way
  13. We had a specialist talk about canine cough & they said the vacc last 6 months . Mind you i do wish the vets would get it right it and call it Canine cough because to many people presume kennel cough means in the kennels only which of course isn't true at all
  14. I would sooner people ask how much & decide they may not be able to afford the breed than spend countless phone calls or emails back & forth only to realize it is out of there price range. When we go buy fridge, cars etc etc we generally look at price first & its either in our price range or it isn't, i don't see why people make such a big deal about asking the price first . What i will say though there is away of asking the price than the one liner .
  15. Depending on the breed many people are still overseas after doing the world dog show & there have been many circuit shows/national shows on so some breeders can be away for a week here & there or judging . Phone again & email again.
  16. We have rehomed older dogs & never regretted it,99% of the time its people who already have one of our dogs & want a mate without the puppy stage or its people who have had ours & lost there last dog but through age don't want a puppy but an older dog . We have placed a number with older people who lost there previous dog & the dogs have lived the loving loyal life We wont just rehome to any tom ,dick or harry especially as our dogs are use to a lifestyle of us being home all the time & other dogs for company . We don't have to rehome any but i do believe some dogs thrive more when this option is workable & with the right home. Rehoming here breaks our heart too but sometimes you now some dogs will thrive in the right home than be part of the pack & left home on weekends or missing out . The joy we get in return is the owners coming back so thrilled with there new mate & it being the perfect solution to there needs & the perfect home for our dog
  17. Drying coats are usually for assisting with a wet coat . Or are you after a satin lined coat to place on dog after its dried fully but to help keep it flat ??
  18. The Pupkus you can try in the in the dog shop but buy cheaper east . For the price it is a great dryer & i have used one for the last 2 years on a number of occasions east to dry up to 16 long coats for shows ,easy to hold the hose as it isn't a thick one We have the oldfield cylinder dryer & they are great as well but the hose is alot thicker & depending on your hand size can be awkward
