I am hoping to do the last ET in Perth this weekend but given the forecast is 25 & it starts at 9am not sure whether i will or wont. So maybe it will be a wait till June next year thing unless the weather changes but given the next day is 28 chances are it will end up hotter

I am very confident in her, have been studying for years and when my last show bitches bite went wrong I studied even harder and waited so long for this litter. I have a friend that would show her but she only goes to about 3 shows a year (distance) another friend has a minor puppy bitch this year too so shes out. I am confident in her ability to beat other dogs and I am the most critical judge of her. I went in myself the other week and hated it. I'm not interested in showing at all but I want my girl to title or at least try to title her (or another bitch if she is not worthy or healthy at adulthood) before I consider any future breeding plans as ultimately, I want to create the ultimate American dobe and unfortunately there is noone in Australia breeding the type of dobe I like, the type of dobe that conforms, in my eyes, best to the standard (she is from NZ). Any way I admire people that do it themselves I just wish there were professional handlers.. what about if people cant run or are injured? is it just who you know? She definetely wouldnt embaress anyone thats for sure, the only thing embaressing about her is me... and it sucks. So why would you want to be a judge if your not interested in showing ?? You want to create the Ultimate American Dobe so as a judge which standard would you judge by?? The Kennel club which Austrlain uses or the AKC

I would have to be desperate to reach that stage .

I agree you don;t need a book ours go in the crate & thats it,no bribery, games or anything else. Get the crate out,put her bed in & let her see it during the day,if you want put a chew or similiar in there . Let her explore it & get a feel. I think you need to find a balance between wanting to do all things nice & positive & just using common sense . I find even with our pet owners there getting so confused with all the reading they do that raising a puppy is made into hard work .

Puppy Super Scared Of Groomer / Being Brushed.. :(
Dogsfevr replied to Everlilly's topic in Puppy Chat
Sounds like the groomer isn't experienced with dealing with pups when it comes to clipping . We start our own pups from 6 weeks, they are fully groomed when they go to there pet home at 8 weeks. Some will scream & perform like crazy people but with patience & time they settle. Never in all the years have we had to stop mid groom . Given the coat in the photo i think a groom at present was an over kill, the eye area could have been trimmed if anything. You need to brush on a bench with a non slip surface. We start by simply placing our pups on said surface ,standing them (there stacked early for the show ring) ,we run our hands over & then finish good pup.Do this daily until pup is content. We will at this time reward with food Then we introduce the brush (we start at 6 weeks) & the clippers. They are also blow dry with our Liberty stand dryer at 8 weeks . Many dogs will freak with the groomer BUT by the same token if pet owners don't intend to train correctly they actually make it worse for the groomer. We can tell the pups that if they snap get put down, that perform so are put down, scream & are put down. Most will say the pup screams like its being killed so we wont groom it . It is very easy to tell the pups that got it there way & the pups that had owners that put the time in & didn't let the pup win. The first ones often don't come to the groomer until 8 months & in a mess as the owners are to embarrassed or have been told by people there to young to go to a groomers & generally these people have no clue. A good groomer doesn't have to do a full trim they can just do feet, bum & face ,simple basics until coat is in a position that it needs grooming or you can discuss with owners the coat texture & the effort they wish to put in. We groom plenty of the cross yours is some have no real coat others are like fuzz balls that matt like crazy Yes pup is cute BUT what is cute now wont be for the next 15 yrs a dog that hates being brushed is everyones worst nightmare . The most important thing is to find a groomer that knows what there doing & how to handle young pups . We also never bribe any of our pups with food or toys & i have dogs that take hrs to groom & just under 2 hrs to blow dry. They love being groomed, can't wait to get on the table . As for brushes don't pander you need a combo comb & a soft slicker. Get puppy to stand up,start from the foot & brush upwards with the slicker first to fluff the coat & then use the comb upwards to. Pup will wiggle, may try & mouth or scream but don't give up.many pups learn very early that an academy award performance gets results. If you do stop feel the need to stop then do so but pup doesn't go on the floor until you feel its ready ,it musn't be rewarded for bad behaviour . -
I would say the biggest issue is you think her behaviour is defiance & ignoring & often your body language is felt by the dog . Maybe the fact she comes when you back is turned is because she prefers the body language you give ,maybe when making face contact with her she doesn't get what you want . The Kelpies we board here are super sensitive to our actions & i find if they are confused its like they switch off. You say you call her to toilet & your having issues so put her on a leash & walk her around using your word. I don't really know how to explain it, they also use very old fashioned methods, ie jerking on the correction chain to get the dog to be where you want it to, using a "growly" type voice for commands. I don't like their methods, I don't use them at home, I'm trying to stay one step ahead of them so that I can teach her what to do using my methods so that she will do it in class & I don't have to use theirs. There methods may not be what you want but don't think what they teach is totally useless. Training is all about learning from various people ,methods & what works for your dog . You may find your voice commands are to generalized & with no real difference in what you want ,ie tone boring & repetitive. I remember at trials watching dogs so disinterest in there owners as they where boring & one tone fits all,it applies in the show ring to . I find dogs like kids tone makes such a massive difference in keeping them with you . I would get someone to video you if you can & watch yourself over & over videos tell a thousand words & make you realize what you may/may not being doing wrong

Using Human Dandruff Shampoos On A Dog?
Dogsfevr replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yep we use head or shoulders or selsum . I have used Human shampoos on my dogs for over 25 years. We also use Cowboy magic which has been a good product . As for an after wash we use distilled water if required . -
Grooming For English Springer Spaniels
Dogsfevr replied to Novjan's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It is easy to learn yourself. I would suggest contacting the English Springer Spaniel club in Vic & they may be able to suggest so groomers your side or some breeders that do grooming . Clipping the coats will result in a thicker coat & what you are seeing now is the undercoat going crazy & it needs to be stripped out . It doesn't make them cooler but if you want less furnishings a good groomer can trim the underbelly, bib etc etc into a more pet friendly length & still retain a lovely top coat & Springer look but you need to work on the coat weekly to get it back The longer you leave it the harder it will get. -
Does anyone now if the Sept edition is up yet & if so could they send the link either here or private please. I need to check some shows

So i gather then all these wonderful Aussie citizens who enabled there dogs to be in the RSPCA in the first place are examples of good owners?? We actually board alot of overseas students dogs(Singapore) & thus far all have taken there dogs back with them, we have on the other hand boarded many dogs owned by Australians moving overseas who couldn't be bothered to take there dogs .

You did say he was a Border Collie didn't you? If he is he has to be the biggest one in the world and no wonder he has aged fast. They usually average 18-21 kgs with the biggest going up to about 26kgs. I thought the same too. i have dogs here that are in prime condition between 40/42 kg so thinking of a BC at the same weight is mind blowing . Maybe its a BC cross BC is listed in the other post of breathing issues

If your both happy to discuss your options discuss now what you want down with your dog,do you want bury, cremate . It may seem awful but often easier to plan this before the time comes & having contacts numbers ready or deciding where to bury. For me all mine are cremated until such time i feel i can let them go fully, some we have spread in there favourite spots but this is often many years later when where ready. If you wish to bury & i really don't want this to come out sounding horrible but digging the hole may be hard depending on your soil & become a task that truly is heart breaking so maybe a good friend can be called on or maybe through religious or other beliefs you have a different option. We have great people we use . Sadly we had to use them 6 weeks ago with my pride & joy

The decision is easy for me ,i love my dog more than my own needs. As much as it breaks my heart & i deal better knowing i have done the right thing . But the decision is solely yours .

Imported Stud Impotence/infertility - More Common?
Dogsfevr replied to Missymoo's topic in Breeders Community
I say vaccine, one in particular is known to affect the mobility for atleast 6 months. I do now of an import whose mobility was very poor but after time & guidance from a reproductive person produced a litter of 10 in a breed where that is massive. I should add this dog travelled 3 countries before coming here There are some tablets that also affect sperm mobility,If any of our males have required meds our vet always asked about up coming stud work & how the meds prescribed could be an issue & whether there may be an alternative if required -
His Dizzy was moderately coated & really the last of his big winners . I reckon there will be a big pointer entry :D as he certainly has a thing for pointers 7 weeks can make a big difference so who knows .

I think its safe to say Ellz nows what Frank Kane likes/ dislikes & has most likely shown under him in NSW many moons ago , I think that is the main reason she is asking because she isn't sure . Certainly Yanks in Europe are show to perfection coat wise & probaly one of the few breeds where that Glamour " word can be inserted even in the UK yanks are show in great coat & The judge in questions yanks where good coated dogs .
