  1. I would say the biggest issue is you think her behaviour is defiance & ignoring & often your body language is felt by the dog . Maybe the fact she comes when you back is turned is because she prefers the body language you give ,maybe when making face contact with her she doesn't get what you want . The Kelpies we board here are super sensitive to our actions & i find if they are confused its like they switch off. You say you call her to toilet & your having issues so put her on a leash & walk her around using your word. I don't really know how to explain it, they also use very old fashioned methods, ie jerking on the correction chain to get the dog to be where you want it to, using a "growly" type voice for commands. I don't like their methods, I don't use them at home, I'm trying to stay one step ahead of them so that I can teach her what to do using my methods so that she will do it in class & I don't have to use theirs. There methods may not be what you want but don't think what they teach is totally useless. Training is all about learning from various people ,methods & what works for your dog . You may find your voice commands are to generalized & with no real difference in what you want ,ie tone boring & repetitive. I remember at trials watching dogs so disinterest in there owners as they where boring & one tone fits all,it applies in the show ring to . I find dogs like kids tone makes such a massive difference in keeping them with you . I would get someone to video you if you can & watch yourself over & over videos tell a thousand words & make you realize what you may/may not being doing wrong
  2. padlock the gate & problem solved & friends need to learn what respect is
  3. http://www.youtube.com/user/thedogworldtv?feature=watch Here's another good link for dog shows overseas ,you can waste hrs on youtube watching dog shows
  4. Yep we use head or shoulders or selsum . I have used Human shampoos on my dogs for over 25 years. We also use Cowboy magic which has been a good product . As for an after wash we use distilled water if required .
  5. It is easy to learn yourself. I would suggest contacting the English Springer Spaniel club in Vic & they may be able to suggest so groomers your side or some breeders that do grooming . Clipping the coats will result in a thicker coat & what you are seeing now is the undercoat going crazy & it needs to be stripped out . It doesn't make them cooler but if you want less furnishings a good groomer can trim the underbelly, bib etc etc into a more pet friendly length & still retain a lovely top coat & Springer look but you need to work on the coat weekly to get it back The longer you leave it the harder it will get.
  6. Does anyone now if the Sept edition is up yet & if so could they send the link either here or private please. I need to check some shows
  7. So i gather then all these wonderful Aussie citizens who enabled there dogs to be in the RSPCA in the first place are examples of good owners?? We actually board alot of overseas students dogs(Singapore) & thus far all have taken there dogs back with them, we have on the other hand boarded many dogs owned by Australians moving overseas who couldn't be bothered to take there dogs .
  8. You did say he was a Border Collie didn't you? If he is he has to be the biggest one in the world and no wonder he has aged fast. They usually average 18-21 kgs with the biggest going up to about 26kgs. I thought the same too. i have dogs here that are in prime condition between 40/42 kg so thinking of a BC at the same weight is mind blowing . Maybe its a BC cross BC is listed in the other post of breathing issues
  9. If your both happy to discuss your options discuss now what you want down with your dog,do you want bury, cremate . It may seem awful but often easier to plan this before the time comes & having contacts numbers ready or deciding where to bury. For me all mine are cremated until such time i feel i can let them go fully, some we have spread in there favourite spots but this is often many years later when where ready. If you wish to bury & i really don't want this to come out sounding horrible but digging the hole may be hard depending on your soil & become a task that truly is heart breaking so maybe a good friend can be called on or maybe through religious or other beliefs you have a different option. We have great people we use . Sadly we had to use them 6 weeks ago with my pride & joy
  10. The decision is easy for me ,i love my dog more than my own needs. As much as it breaks my heart & i deal better knowing i have done the right thing . But the decision is solely yours .
  11. I say vaccine, one in particular is known to affect the mobility for atleast 6 months. I do now of an import whose mobility was very poor but after time & guidance from a reproductive person produced a litter of 10 in a breed where that is massive. I should add this dog travelled 3 countries before coming here There are some tablets that also affect sperm mobility,If any of our males have required meds our vet always asked about up coming stud work & how the meds prescribed could be an issue & whether there may be an alternative if required
  12. His Dizzy was moderately coated & really the last of his big winners . I reckon there will be a big pointer entry :D as he certainly has a thing for pointers 7 weeks can make a big difference so who knows .
  13. I think its safe to say Ellz nows what Frank Kane likes/ dislikes & has most likely shown under him in NSW many moons ago , I think that is the main reason she is asking because she isn't sure . Certainly Yanks in Europe are show to perfection coat wise & probaly one of the few breeds where that Glamour " word can be inserted even in the UK yanks are show in great coat & The judge in questions yanks where good coated dogs .
  14. She was wanting to see gameness in Terriers, she was judging fr what traits the breed should show ,a good terrier judge will ask for this & it isn't asked enough in my view. All the dogs i handled had no issue playing with other breeds
  15. No i wouldn't enter him under Frank unless you are 100% happy with what you are taking . Yes you could enter & scratch but if the dog isn't in good coat i wouldn't enter & not show
  16. Vet check good BUT when you scared him you should have just left him alone & to regain his barrings. After the 2/3 time i would say he was so overwhelmed he was just protecting himself . I wouldn't see what he did as an issue unless there has been other signs.' If that was a human startled /scared you would get a similar reaction if not worse You need to understand he wasn't playing a game .
  17. There not sparring but showing they have true terrier nature & not all the terriers are asked to do this as it isn't part of the breed nature. When i showed the Terriers we often had it done under Internationals & i never had an issue with it,infact i like judges who do it . A good handler knows how to control there dogs & good judges will often take this in & they shouldn't be acting aggressive just being an alert Terrier & when the handler & dog do it correctly it is a stunning sight The Airedale i showed would do this exercise great & then would go interact with any kind of dog ,it really is no different than stacking in the line up & turning yours to face the other so it looks great & you would see that in the terrier ring every weekend dogs in breed/group line ups facing each other . I agree to many Terriers are soft
  18. I have done Syd / Mel & no way would i make it a over nighter unless i had no option but to leave late afternoon. We stopped 4 times simply due to having youngsters with us but if it was just the adults would have stopped only when they woke or when we did a petrol stop. Stopping every 2 hrs will drive the dog bonkers & not allow it to settle. The weather can also be warmer then & getting in/out of the car will just heat the dog . Plus if you can't find a dog friendly place to allow the dog in the room & its warm i would be more concerned of a dog/cat in a hot airless car . Our showdogs sleep in the trailers with great airflow & plenty of room to move .

  20. She had you home all day to be at her beck & call.now she suddenly has no one so yes she is pi**ed off ,doesn't mean its separation issues. She lives in an environment that is very limited to amuse herself, the house is her yard so anything in it is fair game ,i would count yourself lucky so far. She was good because you where there to tell her no or call her away, now its like leaving a 3 yr old in a room unattended for hrs with crayons & the likes & saying don't do anything ,it won't happen especially at this age. My current 8 months has just been possessed by Satan, she has an acre to run but she is being normal.she wants to experience new things & she is doing that ,she is also a delightful dog when not being her age . At 7 months dogs become little teenagers some stay angels some don't.She is a gundog & an active breed with a smart mind & you need to exercise her mind . As for giving her access to everything at this age good luck LOL Ours earn't the privilege but even now they are not allowed in the front of the house No dog is trained at 7 months & this is a big mistake people .she had you at home for guidance now she has to learn to do it alone & this can be a whole different training . It sounds like you need to make the balcony into a dog yard that is more fun for her so she can amuse herself,
