  1. There is no such thing as best food ,what works for one is a disaster for another . This is a question you should be asking your breeder now . You would only be changing the diet if its very poor or ideally with the consultation of the breeder as a good one nows what suits that breed the best . Keep in mind many breeders guarantee there pups providing the diet feed is followed because some brands or diet changes that aren't suitable can make or break your pups future. We do with our pups,we give the diet sheet & any changes must be done in consultation with us or we will void certain aspects of our guarantee due to people doing things that aren't suitable & creating issues .
  2. All our dogs have been cremated & over the years we have had about 18 done. Some companies use the most ugliest urns out, some just place them in plastic boxes or velvet bags some companies take for ever to get the ashes back. We use a company here that is amazing, they use stunning pottery urns & place a message of your choice on there ,They return your dog in days . For many years they sat in the cup board ,some we spread in there fav spot & 2 years ago some others we placed together in a new tree we planted ,a small number we have kept
  3. Depends on the quality you build but ours are insured for over $800 000 . 50 kennels is alot to start with & to be honest to build good kennels.outside yards etc etc i would look just under 1 million to do it right . If buying an established place around the million mark . The above price may/may not include all the additional items you need, advertising, car signage, insurance etc etc or buying the land . We have 24 & that keeps us very busy with 2 people
  4. Interesting because Dobes are one of the most common breeds used in Junior handlers which starts at 7 yrs because they are so adaptable, trainable & respond to little or alot of encouragement
  5. We have had a number of clients feed raw & go strictly by the measurements suggested & the dogs are so under weight its scary. One we actually told them to go to the vet as the dog was so frail & lethargic ,it was under feed & simply dying. They have gone back to there old diet & the dog is now happy & healthy. My dogs would also die on the weight suggestions it makes me wonder sometimes who invents these weights & it seems not make it obvious that you feed what you dog thrives on weight wise
  6. We always ask before taking a dog in have they had parvo(for day stay procedures),there quarantine maybe fine but the dog had to get into the clinic some how & not all owners seem to realize the issue there dog may have whilst walking around the carpark. If it was a true emergency then we would take the risk but we have back up clinics as an option. I applaud any clinic that is honest about having parvo dogs in & giving the client the option or doing what they feel is best .
  7. Besides the clippers they will also need to buy a good pair of scissors for the feet/face . Nail clippers & ear pluckers. Clippers come with a #10 blade normally so they will also need to buy additional blades . Yes they can cut the dog whether it be with the clippers or scissors & the risk is higher with an untrained dog & nervous groomer. It can be done but people need to be prepared to educate the dog otherwise it is a waste of money buying the gear because the owners give up.We see plenty more that give up . Generally we tell people to get it done professionally at first for 12 months & then if they wish do so from there as the dog has manners & understands the clipper sounds . If this isn't an option then they need to work on there plan on handling the dog on a table first & foremost & training it to the clippers(if it hans't been groomed yet ??) Some go total feral the first time & this can really make or break the experience of being groomed. We tell anyone who wishes to do it themselves to work on a 4 weekly schedule for as long as possible,it is easier to skim over a well maintained coat than clip an over grown dog (this is when injuries may occur if they don't understand the sensitive areas & how to hold clippers & the area)
  8. For many places that would be cheap, for our vet that is expensive . As to feeding Hills thats your choice but i wouldn't bother. We get all our oldies teeth done at 10yrs
  9. We no longer heartworm .We stopped when the companies started to play around to much with products . All our dogs are wormed ,puppies follow our puppy sheet routine & the adults are done but we don't do it as often as some but certainly twice a year or if travelling & feel its in the best interests. Temps play a part & its more the constant day/night temp over a set period
  10. Our dog had the one of the first surgery to re create a tear duct in the 80's. At the time the only specialist able to do it was visiting our state & did it as a teaching op. It worked a treat . We believe hers was due to retained baby teeth . The duct back then was redirect/created to drain through her nose
  11. 4 frames each day would seem an awful lot & i would be concerned about making the dog constipated . What else do you feed ?? That diet alone my big dogs would never keep weight on. Have you asked the breeder about the issues & weight issues ?? It may be something they can pi point via breed knowledge better than others
  12. I have coated breeds & use the cool coats & if used for the purpose they should be they work a treat,
  13. No boarding kennel will take the pup as its underage & not fully vacc so in this scenario there isn't alot of options . We run boarding kennel s& wouldn't take a pup that age . $12 may seem cheap to some but it isn't a boarding kennel . I woud suggest though that the new owners sign a boarding agreement that covers the basics about payment & any vet bills etc etc
  14. Fans & saw dust/shavings Don't fancy the mess from that I would simply do the concrete ,easy to hose & disinfect
  15. Your baby has retained puppy teeth which can be very common. What do you give pup to chew on to help remove those teeth??? If your not giving pup anything to really chew on & don't plan to then you may need to get them out & sooner the better as yes it can affect how the adult teeth grow as there all fighting for space.
  16. We are compulsory night shows in summer so nothing before 6pm except for about 4 country shows which are generally cooler . I have shown at hot shows both here & the east . Here is easier as i have all my gear & live 5 mins from the grounds so can turn up last minute & go home again if required. We can't use generators at our canine grounds(can country) s i have to use deep cycle batteries to run the big fans which is a pain in the arse as there heavy & take days to charge . I have 2 batteries & can run 4 130 watt fans for 8/9 hrs each .cool coats.silver sides, ice. The fans i run one on the floor & then attach the other to the oz trail roof to blow down & works wonderful . I think if your prepared to take all the gear required it can work but you need to access each dog for the occasion .If its hot i certainly don't take many dogs generally 1 or 2 because even though i take the trailer to shows the dogs travel in the car so if its hot its car only anyway i do shudder when i see people who turn up with no form of shade on hot days that is very scary I will often not turn up for very hot shows but if i do then i go with everything but the kitchen sink to ensure the day out is a safe one .
  17. The other popular option for oldies is to board them in kennels & hope they die there or the owners have to do the dirty work & yes we have been in this position on 1 too many occasions. Some don't even go away they just hope the shock will kill them
  18. generally Paps don't wear snoods . But you can easily buy them or make one yourself. Otherwise a stocking works just as good . The dog shop at SACA would sell them
  19. Call me weird but why would anyone be happy for a staff member to take there dogs home overnight without evening knowing there setup?? Did they go home & live in crates.pens or what?? How many dogs did the careers take home ,where they covered by insurance when off the property .
  20. A crate trained dog is your best travelling buddy ,they are a god send for emergencies or any other situation where its safer for the dog to be in a crate . Carry all documents (current vaccs) Update microchip to mobile numbers Carry an ID card of the dog & features if lost You can do your own small animal medical kit Water can be an issue Decide what you are feeding at present & how practical it is & start changing now if need be
  21. highfour pet supplies in Melton are having massive sales on everything. http://www.highfour.com.au/ A grooming table is worth every cent when it comes tou your back . For tools ask your breeder & then buy what they suggest ,you could spend a fortune on useless stuff as for rules depends if the housemate & you are planning to do the same & follow the same rules?? Common sense is your best friend & what is cute now isn't cute in 12 months with many behaviours so decide what the rules are now & get pup into that routine .
