  1. just bottle feed & do both Everyone will have a different diet supplement & creation. We use goats milk with added cream to bond it & never had any issues
  2. I am gathering yackets mum is a member of the pro plan club where you collect the tokens on certain varieties which can then be redeemed for product or items(crate, ezy up etc etc)
  3. Exactly there are restrictions on bitches in whelp travelling
  4. This is an area we stress to our puppy owners to check out, even with a our kennel clients we tell them to ask what there vet procedure is for after hrs because most dont do after hrs or they work on a rooster We use 2 vets one is manned 24/7 the other isnt both vets work in with each other though Most vets are now clinics which means exactly that day care only,in our state most clinics will take over nighters off to murdoch uni for night care without the owners knowing (we drive past the place ). In the past 24/7 manning by vet students was very normal but many have turned to clinics **Should add overnight care is not a ridiculous charge here at our vets
  5. As your dog is from NZ you need to re register her here. You need to join Dogs NSW & then follow the process for an import in submitting her paperwork
  6. half % depending on the price would be a far few dollars. If the breeder did say this considering the dog at present has no testes there that is a worry.,any dog after 6 months shown without fully descended testes actually should go on report Does the breeder charge different for show/pet because if what was said above is true then i would be expecting a refund once desexed on the show/pet price. What does her receipt for the deposit say??
  7. Yep go through the bill & itemise. We had 1 puppy owner try & pull a swifty with spaying as it went to our vet as arranged as we where paying, they tried to add a few other items in the hope we would pay. Obviously this may not be the case but they could have had the bill done in such a manner for surgery only & private only. Not sure if your local for them but i would pay the vet direct so you get a receipt for payment
  8. This is why you get all things in writing when they come back, vet report on what the issue is & everyone knows where they stand. You have done the right thing but dont have a nutual ground expected from both parties
  9. Prices can vary so it comes down to what your willing pay & which breeder you like. Cost of showing again depends on where you live, how keen you wish to be.whether you want to show All Breeds or only speciality. Enty fees vary but between $9 $20 odd(speciality) catalogues $3/4 (varies on states again) Basic gear can be as cheap or as expensive as wish, very hard to say what you will spend. Handling classes again will depend on all breed or speciality.GSD club offers speciality classes & in most states there are handling classes or private lessons available
  10. I would say not enough bulky food. GSD can be sensitive so adding food can be a slow process but i never weigh foods,i give what the dog needs & 800g isnt alot . For me with youngsters on necks 4 kg is a week worth plus mutton,dy etc. My show GSD many years ago would get a 2 cups of dry & up to a 1kg of raw mutton plus necks
  11. Live opposite the prison & gunfire is the norm LOL
  12. My old boy here is so special to me BUT he isnt cuddly BUT he is always the first dog there when feeling off or just tired. He will come up with his nose & say Hey im here for you & then wonder off which i just adore. I would say he is more clicked on to human feelings than my cuddly guys . I guess i am lucky to have a number of dogs who offer all aspects but my special guy is one in a million. Fran dont feel silly ,your post has given you a different appreciation to your dog that at first you may not have seen .

  15. They offer thing is i think people confuse what bonding actually is, Bonded doesnt mean cuddles i. From what you have said your dog respects you.enjoys your company & is pleasant to be around. If you looked at all the things he does without cuddles you have a great dog who has bonded to you . I have owned many dogs of one breed & all where an individual,if i compared each one i would be very disappointed but its the breed that i love & each one has brought something different to appreciate .I dont want a clone . I think quite simply like many people you have fallen into the trap of expecting to get what you had & havent BUT from all your posts you seem to have realised you have a great dog that at this stage that isnt smoochy but a joy to own You have a new dog & a new adventure & by the end of the year you most likley have a giggle at why you posted this
  16. How much dry are you giving her?? Made advice feed her what she will eat providing its good for her .I would gather she isnt getting enough food anyway. For example my 2 yr very active dog gets daily 2 cups of pro plan salmon/sensitive skin/half kilo of raw mutton/2 slices of tuckertime & about 5/6 chicken necks. He gets other things added but that is his normal daily intake. That at present with the current warm weather maintains his weight at 35 kg,the last few mornings he has been getting brekkie as its been colder so you could add another half kilo of meat.
  17. We too wont take entire bicthes at peak time unless they have had there season. Last year we turned a couple away for the sepr/oct holidays as they would be/due in season & like already said one has to consider all the dogs in care not just that one. Any other time no problem. We ask all clients if sterilized & with bitches we ask how old & whether she has had a season. We dont mix but feel that is a question that must be asked as we have found very few will tell you they are due in season. Infact we had a case last week where they turned up with bitch at day 7 & also owned an entire male & both where booked for the same run.on the day could we separate please,Umm no as we are booked out. Owners ended up in a pickle & had to leave one & family take the other. Often people have 2 dogs & at peak tme if bitch comes in you dont have spare runs to shift them too
  18. My first advice stop trying so hard, the dog will be reading your body language which is disappointment, her response why should i bother. I agree though spitz breeds are known for the particular nature & maybe you thought you would get a fluffy teddy bear but that isnt the spitz way.You cant change a breed to be something it isnt meant too but you can enjoy what each dog brings to the plate & foster those areas. Many dogs can be turned off by people trying to hard instead of just allowing time to take its course. Affection can vary greatly as does what each dog likes. From a human point of view i am not a touchy/feely type of person i dont feel comfy around people who always want to hug & be close. other people love this kind of affection & thrive. As for the beach side well it wouldnt worry me if a dog was enjoying being a dog after all it is a dog
  19. What sort of grooming do you do on the coat?? You have a giant breed puppy who has it its fugglies & will do so till up to 3 yrs. What does the breeder say??
  20. No offence but that is the worst reason i have heard for breeding . I am surprised he actually said that . will ask on his FB page about that one. Edit I have had aquick look through some info & no mention of using any dog at stud but emphasis on breeds hitting an age phase & behaviour to look out for during sexual maturiy
  21. I wouldn't be worried about the advertising itself, just yet. Maybe pop into the Amstaff thread and chat with some knowledgeable folk there who can guide you with relation to relevant health testing etc. Is he ANKC registered? If so, is he on the main register? Do you show your dog? so many questions before anything else...... It's not YOUR job to find him 'suitable mates'... but rather breeders need to want to use HIM. IMHO, a guality dog who is visible to the breed community needs little promotion. ETA - WHY does the breeder think he would make a great stud dog? Hi There, Thank you for your help. He is registered, he will be shown within the next month or so. We will get health checks etc done soon then, I guess the show people will also be able to help us there. Well the breeder was only a new breeder, this was her first litter, maybe she just meant he would be good because he is a nice colour. Show him, enjoy him & then consider the stud aspect. get to now your dog & his faults.there is no rush for stud work & reality is many dogs are never used at stud . Stud work should only be considered for the betterment & often it means saying NO more than YES
  22. what diet did the breeder susggest ??
  23. I applaud them, they where responsible owners something we all dream off . They where quick to consider the dogs interest first ,they contacted the breeder asap & did all things one hopes when placing a pup out even if it did go pear shaped. We placed a pup out to people who where perfect.lots of meet & greets & where thrilled with there pup to be. The pup lasted 2 days because the wife couldnt deal with the worry. She was paranoid something would happen as it was so small & she couldnt deal with it & i mean literally couldnt deal with it. The pup was returned & she was so ashamed but we stressed the point there was nothing to be ashamed off. About 12 months latter we placed out an older dog with them because irrespective of what happened they are super owners BUT she couldnt deal once home with the little size, she was well aware etc etc .well prepared but she had a fear that she couldnt deal with .It was a unknown surprise to her husband aswell,he never expected it & was floored by her reaction . I look at all the alternatives that could have happened & am grateful they did the right thing & came back to us asap
  24. I dont think the vet is an idiot at all. If you want to be a breeder then you should now what requirements are for the breed not the vet.If they didnt have the knowledge to now that then its time to read up,it would be clearly stated on the lab club of QLD or the likes websites, its on the ANKC site & would be on the CCCQ site Expensive mistake for the owner & a lesson learnt about becoming a breeder & finding at things first.
  25. Erny i think you made your point very clearly with "just in case". We see many a dog who in all reality have been prescribed the just in case & i think its very obvious that just in case means exactly that compared to a necessity. For example we get many dogs come in with pred to stop itches, many (not all) off these same dogs come in with treats that are & would not be something an issue dog should be getting. We find when you ask some of these people what options they have tried its hil & the vet hasnt even asked about the diet or similiar but prescribed meds. I do believe there handed out to easily without a second thought but a some vets. Meds have there place & should be used especially if its in the dogs best case BUT there not always the answer . But flame me now I do believe for a small grp of owners who dont want to put themselves out or change diets or the likes its a simple quick fix for them when the dogs issues could be resovled. We have had a number of clients board there dogs for 4/6 weeks on a trial to see how they did without there meds(vets approval) & all had no issues, some with the seasonal itch would also board as they found it cheaper than vet bills. BUT you do have dogs where there is no choice & quality is of the upmost importance
