My sibe has a choice of 3 beds outside, but chooses to lie in a dirt hole shes dug out near the fence. I spent a lot of money on a kennel and ended up giving it away because it was never used

Kirty, I don't have any advice, but I just want to say that you seem like an incredible person. You dedication to cat rescue is amazing and I can only imagine your heartache at having some of your resources destroyed. Keep your chin up Kirty

My parents beautiful girl Bella went to God today. She was our last "family" dog, we got her before my brother & I moved out of home. 3 years ago she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and had her right eye removed due to the tumour pushing up under it. She was given 6 months to live and defied all odds to kick on for another 2 1/2 years. In the past month the tumour has come back very aggressively and finally my parents made the heart-breaking decision to let her go. The Vet where I work did a housecall to my parents today and gave Bella her wings. It was soul destroying seeing my Mum & Dad crying as they said their final good-byes. I have only seen my Dad cry once before and it felt like my heart was being torn apart. I feel so sad and helpless, I hate to see my parents hurting like this. RIP Smelly-Belly, you were a beautiful, loyal dog who brought may years of joy into all of our lives (even though 12 years ago you ate my out of print Richard Laymon book before I finished reading it) . Love you Bell-Bell xxxooo

This forum has literally totally changed my life. I worked for many years in the "pet industry" naively buying and selling puppies and other animals for a company. I honestly thought I was doing the right thing by the animals by educating people and finding them loving homes. I originally looked on this forum because I heard how passionately DOL was against petshops and I wanted to know why. Well, I got the education of a life time from just reading posts and learning the "truths" behind the industry I was in. It totally changed the way I felt about my job and what I was doing and after 8 1/2 years of working in that industry I decided I couldn't in good conscience do it any more. It was scarey as hell leaving my "comfort zone", but I can honestly say it was the best decision in my life, I am now in a job I adore and am very good at (and actually helping animals). I guess what I am saying is that DOL is a great resource and educational tool. I do however think that if I had originally posted on here instead of just sitting back and reading posts, and had been flamed straight away, I would never have come back and would still be selling animals like products off a shelf. Just my 2 cents worth.

I haven't read the whole thread, so I apologize if this has been said already. I think advertising in the TP is a great idea because thats where so many people look to find an animal. It is better to give people the oportunity of dealing with ethical, regestered breeders rather than backyard breeders. It is a good oportunity to help educate the general public and raise awareness on buying form a registered breeder vs backyard breeders.

My God, thats disgusting. At our clinic, in an emergency situation, the animal gets stabilised before money is even discussed (we are very reasonably priced anyway). The well being of the animal always comes first and foremost. Sure, sometimes we get stung and end up out of pocket, but most times people settle their accounts and are very appreciative of the immediate care their pet received.
