  1. Just tried it with my two.... Angel the Cattle dog removed the towel, ate the food. Bubba the Lab / Ridgie cross tried to eat the food through the towel after staring at it for almost 2 min. I guess he was thinking really hard.. ;)

  5. Like so many others who have not personally met Jed I have also admired and respected her over the years and many of her posts have given me a good laugh as she has a wicked sense of humour. Her common sense and knowledge really standout and I enjoy reading her posts and I am sure many of us have learned a lot from Jed. What she went thru was unimaginable horror and I was not surprised at all at her heroic attempt to save as many of her beloved animals as possible. I so hope her beloved Magnus will be found as he and her other surviving animals will be instrumental in helping her through this terrible ordeal. Sending lots and lots of healing vibes and best wishes to Jed for a speedy recovery and Jed and her human and animal family are in my thoughts. I struggle to get words out at times but this is very well said

  10. Im not sure if that would change anything. I see what your saying though, the body heat probably keeps them pretty warm. When we still had our darling little toy poodle we used to put a t-shirt on her and put her to bed with a hot water bottle (with a cover on it) and cover her with a baby blanket. Then put a thicker sweater on her in the am till it warmed up. our family thought we were nuts
  11. We have a Pajero named Frankie. The dogs have seatbelts and are pretty good in the backseat but we can put them in the back or still fit a large crate in the back if necessary. We were really tempted to go Troopy but loved the comfort of the Pajero. We got the Pajero to take the dogs beach camping and on daytrips and surftrips. I wasnt sure we would use it much but we use it heaps.
  12. a great video to start the day thank you for posting that
  13. Both of ours are rescues from the AWLQLD. We needed dogs that were cat and chook friendly and we looked for a while but found the perfect match. We spent several hours with them and asked tons of questions to the keepers, im sure we were a pain but we couldnt be happier with the results. We have a kelpie/ cattle and were looking for another when we found our Bubba who is a ridgie x lab. It wasnt what we planned on but his personality was perfect and to top it off he was even crate trained . Anyway good luck I hope you find the perfect match
  14. Theres alot of really good info. Another really good resource is Dr. Pitcairns complete guide to Natrual Health for Dogs and Cats. I have used the first aide and emergency section on several occaisons.
  15. I have stayed with all of them until the end except the littlest Princess. I just couldnt i knew i would lose it. My husband stayed with her until the end but i stood outside the vets bawling my eyes out. I didnt go in because i didnt want her to be upset and i was ok until they went in. I have always been "ok" until i got home but with little princess i just couldnt. She was 19 and I know it was the right time but I fell apart. For some reason with her i couldnt but with the rest of them it was always me who stayed and I was always ok until i got home again.
  16. I totally agree with Soufs comment about dental health being importanat. Our Toy Poodle recently got here wings this last year. She lived to the ripe old age of 19, we had her teeth cleaned until she was almost 16 and she had them when she died. Well, most of them She started off with nutros or eukanuba with science diet canned. She had that for the first 1/3 of her life with treats like chicken, chicken necks or the odd bone to chew on. Then we changed to different drys and mince with rice for a while. The last 5 years of her life she had supercoat dry (her preference) and chicken breast in strips or whatever meat we were eating slightly grilled on the outside and raw in the middle. She never had any major health problems and had an active lifestyle with lots of swimming. Our kitty lived to 17 and he ate whiskas and canned wet or whatever meat the dogs were eating. my childhood dogs both lived to 15 and 17 and they ate cheap dogfood, whatever we could afford. I guess we can just do our best and hope for the best.
  17. What breed? Chesapeake Bay Rt How old was the dog? 6 Was there a familial component? Unknown she was from Chessy Rescue What was the dog being fed? Need some detail of what exactly - if dry food, which one, if raw, what it was Nutros dry with rice and meat but she was a garbage gut and would steal anything How often was he fed? Once daily or more? Twice a day Was his bowl elevated, or on the ground? On the ground at first. Elevated after incident. What was he doing when he bloated? (ie, at a show, at home, playing, at home alone) At home in the middle of the night. Has he bloated more than once? Yes but only twisted once. Has he had a gastrowhatsit? LOL (too lazy to look it up, but you'll know ) Yes Did he ever bloat after that? Yes but not twisted Did the dog also suffer GDV Yes Did it have surgery? Yes What was done to relieve the bloat? Tube then surgery and im pretty sure they sewed the stomach as to not twist again. She recovered and lived to 15. I might think of more questions later, but this about covers what I would like to know.
  18. Rest in Peace Abbey I am so sorry for your loss. We recently lost our 18 year old Toy Poodle I definetly understand the void you must feel. She certainly sounds as if she had a happy full life. Run Free Abbey
