Do a search for BARF diet (bones and raw food) and another one for RAW diet on here and you will get alot of information.

Ohh poor little fella. I would be getting some tests done. My only suggestion is cancer as I am looking after a pug that has Stomach Lymphoma and has lost a great deal of weight in the last few months.

Ring your breeder. ETA. On second thoughts sounds like it would be worms. Get some worming liquid, like Drontal, from your vets and dose her.
-
Maybe try some Bicarb of soda. And yes RAW or BARF diet is raw bones, meat, fish, veggies, fruit.

I would rather desex young then run the risk of my puppy being stolen and ending up as breeding factory for a puppy farmer. Rescues desex 8 week old puppies all the time. I just had two rescue pug pups desexed at 5 months old. We waited till they were big enough to cope with the anasthetic otherwise we would have gotten them done earlier. Incontinance can happen to any dog not just ones that are spayed young. As for the growth plates and desexing young making dogs grow taller. My male pug was desexed when he was nearly two years old and he is a tall pug whilst my female pug was desexed at 6 months and she is a short little tank so that throws that theory out of the window.

Puppy Panting, And Is She Getting Fat?
puggy_puggy replied to Gerda the Schnauzer's topic in Puppy Chat
Why not try bits of fresh veggies & fruits as treats. ie. carrots, celary, apple And yes panting can be a sign of pain but as other said this may be because she has teeth coming through. If she is not doing it all the time don't worry. -
Snuffle your dogs diet looks pretty good to me. Just cut out the rice. They don't need grains and it is often the grains that most dry foods are made of that causes the majority of skin problems that dogs get. Also add some fish once a week. The Omega Oils fish contains is an essential part of the diet. And yes food process the veggies & fruit.

Generally stitches are in for 14 days. If she is being a loony and running around I would put her in a crate or puppy pen her.

How Much Do You Pay For Titre Testing

Is that for all three tests or just two? -
I've had many females desexed through the pug rescue I do. They are pretty spaced out the night you bring them home but the next day you and they have no idea of the major surgery they have had. I treat them just the same as the males I have had desexed. Keep them in a warm quiet place when they come home. Offer them a little bit of cooked chicken breast at about 7pm or 8pm. Try to keep them relatively quiet till their stitches come out.

Yes but you are in the UK. How much do vaccinations cost there? -
OMG you are killing your dog. I would be feeding her only one chicken neck a day and a few tablespoons of food processed veggies untill the weight comes off. This might seem cruel but it is crueler her being so obese. Puppy kibble has much more energy and calories then adult kibble. Stop feeding her this!!!!! Feed your dogs seperately. Use fruit and veggies as treats. Of course she is not going to be able to run as she is to fat. Walk her at a steady pace for at least half an hour every day.

Any dog that you don't know the vaccination record of you are better off being safe and vaccinating them. Was the heartworm an injection or did you get pills or a spot on product?
-
Um I would rather my pugs, who sleep on my bed and are never in cages either, to be in a nice big comfy cage then tied up whilst at the vets. They are much less likey to be injured by themselves or other animals when they are caged.

Raw Food Diet Info Please!
puggy_puggy replied to Dame Aussie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
With a growing puppy your main concern is to get the right ratio of bone to meat. If you have to much meat and not enough bone then the pups bone growth can have major problems. I recently fostered two pug pups from the age of 7 weeks to 5 months using this BARF/RAW diet. - approximately 10% of their body weight divided up into 3 meals a day. As they get older this should be cut back with them getting fed 2% to 3% of their body weight in either two or one meal a day when they are adults. If you see that they are getting to fat then cut the percentage back. - Breakfast & Dinner consist of Puppy mince/minced chicken carcasses, Barf veggie slops & full fat yoghurt. I will prepare a bowl of it in the morning mixing together the mix 3 to 4 tablespoons of veggie slops and 3 tablespoons of yoghurt. Twice a week I have been adding sardines to their food & once a week offal. You could add other things like kangaroo & beef from time to time but it is important that the bone to meat ratio remains ok. Lennard’s sells the Puppy mince/ chicken mince which they have been fed on. It is made up of minced chicken carcasses. If you have to source the mince from somewhere else make sure it contains meat as well as the minced bones. It is important that dogs when dogs are fed meat that they also have the right ratio of bone with it to balance out nutritional needs. If dogs are fed meat without bones then serious health problems can occur. -Lunch consists of a meaty lambs bone If your puppy is able to eat chicken necks without any problem you could substitute them for the chicken carcuss mince every few days. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BARF SLOPS INGREDIENTS & METHOD Things I always include: - container of alfala spouts - bunch of spinach (roots cut off) - 1 to 2 green capsicums (stalk cut off & seeds out) - 1 to 2 red caspsicums (stalk cut off & seeds removed) - bag of carrots - bunch of celary - 4 zuccinis - 3 to 4 oranges (peeled) - 1 pumpkin (seeds removed) - 2 to 4 apples (pips taken out) - 2 to 4 bannanas (peeled) - 8 to 10 eggs (whole including shell) - flaxseed oil (approx 250mL) - kelp (approx 100g) What else you can put in: - bunch of silverbeet - turnip - squash - sweet potato - 2 to 4 pears - half to 1 pinapple - brussel sprouts - brocoli - cauliflower - bag of beans - Apple Cider Vinegar - Vitamin C Chop up then process up in blender/food processor so that things turn to slops. Put each blender batch into a big bucket. Usually leave the eggs & flaxseed oil for things that don't blend very well like the pumpkin and carrots. Ingredients should fill up a bucket. Mix bucket with big ladel till all mixed through then put into take away containers & freeze untill needed. -
What are you currently feeding your dog? ie weekly menu plan. Putting vegtables and fruit through a juicer or blender combats the theory that dogs can not break down cellulose walls themselves. By putting the fruit & veg through the processor we are doing it for them. This is my version of BARF and my feeding plan for my two pugs. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BARF FEEDING ROUTINE MONDAY Chicken Necks Slops TUESDAY Fish Slops WEDNESDAY Chicken Necks Yoghurt Slops THURSDAY Kangaroo Slops FRIDAY Chicken Necks Offal Slops SATURDAY Lamb Bones Slops SUNDAY Beef or Lamb or Kangaroo Slops --------------------------------------------------------------------- BARF SLOPS INGREDIENTS & METHOD Things I always include: - container of alfala spouts - bunch of spinach (roots cut off) - 1 to 2 green capsicums (stalk cut off & seeds out) - 1 to 2 red caspsicums (stalk cut off & seeds removed) - bag of carrots - bunch of celary - 4 zuccinis - 3 to 4 oranges (peeled) - 1 pumpkin (seeds removed) - 2 to 4 apples (pips taken out) - 2 to 4 bannanas (peeled) - 8 to 10 eggs (whole including shell) - flaxseed oil (approx 250mL) - kelp (approx 100g) What else you can put in: - bunch of silverbeet - turnip - squash - sweet potato - 2 to 4 pears - half to 1 pinapple - brussel sprouts - brocoli - cauliflower - bag of beans - Apple Cider Vinegar - Vitamin C Chop up then process up in blender/food processor so that things turn to slops. Mix bucket with big ladel till all mixed through then put into take away containers & freeze untill needed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- BARF MENU EXPLAINATION - *Veggie Slops – 2 to 3 tablespoons each *Meat – work out approx 2% to 3% of your dogs body weight and then work out approx 70% of that amount and this will give you the amount to feed (preferably diced/chunks/stir fry strips but can be sometimes minced) *Chicken necks – 3 to 4 per dog depending on the size of the necks. I cut up the chicken necks into bite sized pieces about the size of half your index finger. *Yoghurt (once a week) – 2 to 3 tablespoons each. Natural yoghurt and full fat. *Offal (once a week) – lambs kidney, sheep’s kidney, tongue, brain etc. The equivalent of one or two lamb’s kidney’s for each dog cut up into small pieces. *Fish (once a week) – sardine can divided between the two dogs, tuna can divided between the two dogs or if they are lucky a piece of fresh fish each. *Bones (twice a week) - (vary between Lamb (ribs/lamb flaps, backbones) Beef & Kangaroo Tail) Some dogs can not stomach kangaroo as it is very rich. So see how they go with it and if they are unable to eat it then substitute it for another meat. Kangaroo I get from a pet produce store. Chicken necks from either a chicken shop or the supermarket. Offal from the butcher. Bones from the butcher. I will buy the meat, chicken necks, yoghurt and offal in large quantities and divide it up into separate meal portions and freeze. The night before that ingredient is to be eaten I will take the portion out of the freezer to defrost. Chicken necks, meat and offal I freeze in the snap lock freezer bags and the yoghurt in little tubs. Veggie slops I make up in big batches and freeze in Chinese takeaway food containers.

$200 sounds about right. My vet enquired and quoted me approx $230 for Parvo, Distemper & Hep. The tests are through Gribbles. -
Yes $75 is about normal give or take a few dollars. Last time I looked my vet charges $69 for C5. Vaccinations is one thing that you could shop around for. RSPCA vet clinics and teaching vet clinics are a bit cheaper when it comes to things like this. As for her being a rescue and presuming she had already been vaccinated. You will probably find that she was vaccinated whilst in rescue but as she probably had no history of her vaccination records she would be treated like a puppy and the C5 she just had with you was her booster.
-
She probably was just joking. And meaning the sedative that they give to all animals. Usually all dogs undergoing procedures are given a sedatative, like valium, at least half an hour before the procedure.

Anxiety? Or Something Else?

It doesn't sound like Vestibular disease as she isn't falling over when she is walking, leaning to one side or having rapid eye movement. Sounds like her new twitching, mouth opening and shutting, is another form of the epelepcy she is already suffering. Possibly she could have that genetic condition that Cav's get where the brain is to big for the skull. -
Vegetables Kangaroo Chicken with no fat on it If you are feeding a BARF type diet then food intake for the day should be no more then 2% of your dogs ideal body weight untill you get the weight off him.
-
What are you wanting your dog checked out for? In general cheap vets are fine for run of the mill things like vaccinations, microchipping and desexing but whne it come to specalised problems I would also consult a specalist.
-
You can usually find a scar if you look really hard. It is much smaller then a cesarian scar. Also females that have been desexed when they are young only have tiny (male like) nipples and their vulvas are small. If all else fails ultrasound.

Suitable Bones For Chihuahuas Besides Chicken Necks?

Lamb bones. -
Grab some samples of any suspicious plant and take it down to your local nursery. Someone there will definatly be able to identify what it is and advise you on how to get rid of it. Go and grab some Claratyne (human antihistamine) from the chemist. Give your dog some. Maybe consider changing your dogs from a dry food diet to a fresh food one.
