My Labrador Is Picky On Food..
puggy_puggy replied to vision's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Get him fresh bones, chicken necks, chicken carcusses, sardines. Dry food is not a good thing to feed dogs and those dryed treat things are even worse. If he doesn't eat the fresh food I seriously would be taking him to the vets to check for cancer etc. -
If they are going to charge you for the consultation hell no. Even if they do the consultation for free I wouldn't bother going. I have found that pups and dogs tend to be a bit quieter for a few hours after they have recieved their vaccinations. Same happens in humans.

Quite normal. It's a reaction. It might take a few weeks to totally go down. Massage it whne you think of it.

Most human anthistamines are fine. I have Claratyne, which are once a day for humans. Recently used two tablets for a French Bulldog that came out in massive hives/welts from a reaction to something. I also have had in the past Prednil tablets on hand (which is a cortisone & antihistamine). You would have to get them from the vets but one of them for a bee sting etc has done the job in reducing the swelling in a matter of minutes.

Poor boy. I always have antihistamines on hand just incase. You are pretty right not going to the vet and just giving antihistamines unless your dog is having serious trouble breathing.

Um it's fabric isn't it? Why not wash it? That really is the only way to remove whatever is making it smell. If you can't take it off the wire that makes it stay upright and put it into the washing machine or handwash in a bucket I would be getting a few bucketfulls of warm soapy water and throwing over and in it. I then would be getting a high pressure hose and hosing it.

I am using it with a pug with stomach cancer but only really as a way to try and get some more vitamins and minerals into him. It doesn't make him hungry but he is sick so in a well dog then it might increase the appetite.

I think you probably need to have a CT scan done of your dog to really work out what is going on. Because you have said it is a constant chronic ear infection I am betting that the inner ear is not cleaning itself properly which over time leads to the debris hardening and the bones of the ear even growing over to completely close off the ear. This in turn can cause Vestibular syndrome. A CT scan will show what is going on in the ear and if surgery is required to drain the ear and even cut some of the overgrown bone away.

Put a dolop on your finger and put it in his mouth and spread it around.

Getting/keeping Weight On Old Dog

Are her poos solid? I have a pug boy here that has stomach cancer. He is a very picky eater and gets the runs so is rather skinny. -
Barfing On The Barf Diet

What a load of hyped up crap. -
Natural no flavoured yoghurt.

Getting the weight off him should help. And maybe making him sleep somewhere else. I wouldn't be doing any sort of surgery unless he has other breathing problems. I find my pugs snore when they are really tired or they are sleeping at a funny angle. My girl, who is 6.8kg, is a louder snorer then my boy who is, 9.4kg. I am pretty sure because she has smaller nostrils.

Wash everything is hot water and bleach if possible. Things that can't be washed put in the dryer. Vaccume. Ringworm is usually treated by washing dogs in medicated shampoos such as Malaseb and using an antifungal cream. Humans can get antifungal creams over the counter from their chemist.

I would be getting the vet to check for luxating patella or cruciate ligament problems. They should be able to diagnose these things without xrays.

I am so sorry about your baby girl. I hope that you find out what is wrong with her and are able to fix it. As for refunds or helping to pay medical bills I would say that it would be very very rare that a breeder would do either. It would be nice if they did help with costs if things were found to be caused by breeding and not by anything that you as a new owner had done. Whilst most breeders will not offer money as compensation, if your dog dies or you pay thousands to treat an illness, they will usually offer you another puppy or dog, either for free or at a greatly reduced price.

Ohh poor Clover. Glad that you knew something wasn't right and kept persisting with it. Maybe you could chat with the neighbours about their trees.
-
To cute. I had mint in the garden that the pugs were able to get to and they ate it.

I know with Revolution you need 6mg per kg of dog. It has this written in the leaflet included in the box. Maybe someone can read the Advocate leaflet and see what it says.

Could be excitment rather then agression. My female pug gets so excited when I start putting on her lead or harness she will mouth my hands with her mouth. Does the owner tell the puppy off in a low deep growl when it starts acting like this? Or do they give a high pitched squeel? Also grabbing the puppy by the loose neck skin, like mother dogs do to their pups, might help in this situation. Maybe try a harness on the dog instead of a collar and lead.

I to would suggest joining an obedience club with him. I may be wrong but most are about $60 a year. Staffies love to be with thier humans. I feel sorry for him having to be outside all the time. This is probably contributed to his peeing and pooing problems. Can you have him inside and start all over again with toilet training? Maybe get a puppy pen or gate off areas that are carpeted. Take him ouside evry hour and encourage him to toilet and reward him when he does. There is a drug on the market that vets will use for animals that pee in excitment. Maybe have a chat to your vet about this.

Is she healthy otherwise. If it is her teeth that are rotten then it probably would be worth getting them removed and cleaned. Makes the dogs feel a whole lot better afterwards.

Um if you make your own BARF it's cheaper then a good quality dry food. Been there done that with the low allergen Z/D food with my boy pug for two months. Didn't make a difference to him itching, scratching, smelling funny and getting rashes in his groin. Since getting rid of dry food all together and changing to a BARF diet the horrible rashes are gone, the smell is gone, his coat has changed and he is less itchie scratchie.

The C5 doesn't cover every strain of KC their is. I actually had a different experience in that I bought a rescue home that later developed KC and it was the ones that were due for their vaccinations that got sick and the other ones that aren't due for their vacs till the end of the year or next year didn't get anything. -
Have they totally checked all of her teeth and mouth out? She could need a clean. Could be anal glads. Yep breath can smell when they are blocked up. Why don't you get some lamb ribs and chop thme up into single ribs for her.
