Get a puppy pen.

I use a Braun food processor thingy. Most normal people would probably use it to make soup or baby food but I use it to make the dogs BARF slops. It doesn't fit much in it so I empty each processed container into a big bucket and then mix everything together. I add Kelp and Flaxseed Oil.

Desex her as soon as your vet feels happy to.

I had a similar problem with a rescue pug pup I am fostering. She still has growth plate issues but we are pretty sure she was born with them. When she first started knuckling I cut back her food as I was feeding way to much. So make sure you aren't feeding her to much food for each meal.

Mushrooms - Anyone Gives Them To Your Dog?
puggy_puggy replied to malsam's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If I feed them as a treat my pugs wont touch them. I don't bother putting them in the veggie slops I make either. -
Huge Lump On Side Of Neck On Whippet
puggy_puggy replied to Crits'N'Bits's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have heard of reactions like this from spot on products. Bad batches. I would wait a few days to see if it goes down. If it doesn't reduce in size over the next few days then get the vet to take a look at it. He hasn't just had a vaccination has he? -
Lamb bones. I usally feed either flaps of ribs or the backs. My pugs do fine with roo tails, usually cut in half or quaters as they are quite long.
-
I feed chicken necks but cut them up as I have pugs, they still crunch on them a few times before they swallow the pieces. I also feed lamb flaps, lamb backs and kangaroo tails.
-
I'm pretty sure it will just be swelling. I would wait a few days and see how things go. Generally adult males get a fair bit of swelling after desexing because they have alot more to take out then puppies do.

Vaccinate,or Not To Vaccinate Yearly.
puggy_puggy replied to nicestman77's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am still tossing and turning about the vaccination debate. It is the same in the human world about vaccinating our kids or not. Are dogs that are not vaccinated frequently not getting sick because the majority of the population are vaccinated so there is less diseases to go around? I don't know. As I foster rescues I am still vaccinating my dogs every year to be safe. I would love to Titer test in the future and then vaccinate if needed. Hopefully Titer testing will become more readily available in the future. Recently I had a rescue that had come from the pound and later developed KC in his new home. Of my two dogs the girl that is due for her vaccination next month got a horribley snotty nose and cold whilst my boy got nothing, he is due for his vaccination at the end of the year. -
Not sure about the fact that their vulvas need to develop more to prevent infections. I think it might just depend on the dog and not be to do with desexing when they are puppies. How often do you bath her? Whilst it is red and inflamed I would probably bath the area with warm salty water every day and make sure you dry it well. Also using an ointment like Panalog, which you can get from your vets, would be a good idea. My vet said it is fine to use in the vulva area. Has the vet suggested anything but surgery? Has he given you anything to put on it?

My Puppy Is Getting Desexed Today
puggy_puggy replied to macka's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I wouldn't either. Especially if the place isn't staffed overnight One of the rescue bitches I had desexed last month had only just come off heat so her desexing was more traumatic then usual. They sent her home the same day with some pain meds for a few days and she was fine. -

I suppose it depends on you as a person about how you cope with seeing them drugged out. You just keep them quiet and let them sleep it off. I suppose I am used to it with all the rescues I have fostered being desexed whilst they are with me. For a young female puppy the procedure is less tramatic then an older female that has been on heat a few times or even been pregnant. You also have to remember that dogs have less nerve endings then humans so don't have as much pain and they also cut down and inbetween the muscles in the female spaying which is much less traumatic then in humans when they cut across and through the muscles. -
I have no advice to offer other then to say WOW about your boy being almost 20.

Lump On Top Of Neck A Week After Vaccination
puggy_puggy replied to DogsLover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I wouldn't call the lump an abscess as it is not an infection. It's a reaction, inflamation, to the injection. -

Usually they don't keep them in overnight. Why is your vet doing this? Does she have some medical problem or maybe your vet is rying to make a few extra dollars out of you. I have had many female and male dogs desexed through my rescue work. They are always very out of it when you bring them home that night but are pretty much back to themselves the next day. Because your girl is staying overnight and the next day by the time you pick her up she will basically be back to normal. It will be you freaking out about trying to keep her less active whilst her stitches are in. -
Lenards is great. I also have a butcher near me that has a special section for dog bones and meat. They have chicken frames, necks, minced chicken frames, offal, bones of every sort etc.

What did you end up doing? I would have bathed it with warm salty water maybe applied something like betadine and kept it clean.

Lump On Top Of Neck A Week After Vaccination
puggy_puggy replied to DogsLover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Reported? Why? I have never had this reaction happen in my own pugs but they always get an antihistamine shot before their injections anyway. I have had it happen to a 4 year old foster of mine a year or so ago and know of others that have ahd it happen to their dogs.. Also my two foster pug pups had their 12 week needles a few weeks ago and one developed a lump and the other didn't. The vet used the same vile of vaccine for both the pups so I don't think it was anything to do with the vaccine just with how each pup coped with it. -
14 Week Old Tenterfield Terrier
puggy_puggy replied to shazz05's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have 14 week old pug pups and they are getting 3 meals a day. Two of which are BARF veggie/fruit slops mixed with ground up chicken frames and yoghurt. For lunch they get two meaty lambs bone each, which are about the lenght of a finger. -
Capstar tablets. Wash her bedding in hot water with eucalyptus oil. Vaccum every day. You may need to flea bomb your yard and house.

Maybe check his teeth.

Glad you have found out what is wrong with him and that he is getting the treatment needed. I was going to suggest vestibular syndrome. -
Blocked anal glands? Sometimes their breath can smell when their anal glands are blocked.

Yep some dogs can get a reaction to thier needles. Massage it when you think of it. It might take two weeks to totally go but it will.
