  1. I used the method described earlier, adding something yummy to the bowl and also divided the same amount of food over four bowls and this slowed her down. She couldn't guard all four. My pup was not at the stage of biting she would be tense over her bowl and rush her eating when aproached and given a pat. This really did slow her down and she is no longer tense over her food and I now take things away when I need/want to. In fact my daughter complains now she is so slow and the last of the 3 to finish. :D Worked for us.
  2. Thanks Erny, great advice as usual. He is an almost 3 year old BC so he may get a bit excited the faster we go, so slow it will be.
  3. Hi, How do you train a dog to run with you on the pushy? My only idea's are a few and I am shaw I am missing bits and probably wrong order. 1. Feed dog treats whilst I am sitting on bike and stationary. 2. Walk bike with dog next to bike and feed treats if you have 3 arms 3. Do this until things are going smoothly then what??? Feel free to fill in the bits or throw it out the window ta
  4. Got back not long ago. She needs up to four teeth out and is booked in for Monday.
  5. That was my thought, but when nurse said plaque could be green I doubted myself. She is 10 ish and Staffy x Lab
  6. Hi, A "friends" dog and I do mean "friend" as I would not let this happen and am really disgusted it has, is going to the vet tonight with what I think is gangrene on her teeth. Two weeks ago I told friend (husband) she needed to see vet as I could see infection and smell it. Today I washed her and she has four green teeth and gums. It is really grose. I made the appointment at vet for tonight and the wife and I are taking her, my question is the vet nurse mentioned that plaque can sometimes be green!!! Anyone seen that before? I think it looks just like mould as it has come up so quick, but just wanted to know if anyone has come across green plaque before??? ta
  7. My biggest worry Cosmolo, and I'm sure you see this too, are some people who complete either their Delta or NDTF courses, who have all of 5 mins experience, yet they go out and call themselves dog trainers. I don't know about you, but this absolutely terrifies me. I think you get this with any industry when people "complete" a course. I am starting my course this year, by no means will I be the "be all and end all" at the end. I have years ahead of me of watching, listening, reading and learning. It is something I have wanted to do for a long time but I realise where my limits will be.
  8. Good Book. Have you tried ebay?
  9. I have 3 dogs and have had some problems but it is getting better. My pup (6mths) is a hoover and resource guarding a little. My old girl eats one kibble piece at a time. (always has since day one) The other is ok. I have started feeding the pup across 4 bowls and this has definately slowed her down. I can now pat her whilst she is eating and she does not flinch. Previously she would gulp her food even more as she thought I was taking it. I will keep working on it and I know I will win. Also, they are made to wait when they are finished and not allowed to go near the others. This can be different ends of the patio or in a sit.
  10. Kavik and others, Could you give m some examples of what you mean by the above? I am curious as I am getting into training this year and the more info, knowledge etc on methods the better. Thanks
  11. I bought a purple twin tank from Barf Shop Qld. Love it. had not problems. My only thing is I have to go to them for a new element when needed and that is fine but what if they are not around one day then I am cactus!!!! If I had known the parts were only from them I may have looked else where. As far as service and product goes not problem.
  12. Thanks for the tip Loraine! I literally just put mine on the stove for dinner!! Washed it under cold water to get salt off but will soak it next time.
  13. I would imagine too much salt for them.
  14. If she doesn't like that means keep going. Easier said than done lol She will get used to it though. Does she have a favourite treat she just LOVES. BBQ chicken, cheese, sausage etc? Try slowly giving her this then start rubbing (with no cotton balls or wipes etc) your hands around ears. Be sure to imitate what you would do when cleaning ears. Remember one step at a time. Then when she is comfortable with that. It could take a day or a week who knows, get the treat out again and introduce the cleanser. I would not let her see you get it ready though. Just my basic 2 cents worth.
  15. These days you can do it same day providing dog is completely dry. Forget what it is called but the carrier travels over the body just below the skins surface. cheers
  16. It is possible, does he have an elizabethan collar on? Could it be that? Might be worth checking if you think it is related to the tattoo
  17. Agreed!!!! Tanti = I mean a tantrum. is it a tantrum where the dog is just putting on a performance for you, because of the e collar. If collar is tight then maybe not. You have to be the judge of that.
  18. I would imagine if you can fit a finger under the collar then it is ok. Is it attached to the normal collar? If yes and it is not tight then should be ok. Is it a tanti do you think???
  19. Hi, Dumb question possibly!!!! Should you feed raw salmon or cooked (boneless)? I defrosted it today and didn't cook it and with new years tomorrow won't cook it for us. Sooooo, the doggies can have a bit of it over the next few days. Won't give them alot as it might give them the trots!!!!!! Raw ok or cooked???
  20. I was gutted too. Its not a good feeling. The only other time for me was a tail as well. It was a friends malt x and I snipped the tip of the tail straight off. Did not have hold of the end properly. I wrapped it in vet wrap straight away and we took him to the vet and he had surgery. They had to take more off I felt awful. I paid for the vet bill (obviously), then I packed a card and gift for the family to apologise. Wine for Mum and Dad, chocolates for the kids and treats for the dog when he came home !!! I think we need to realise you can take all the care in the world but sometimes something is going to happen.(mind you in saying that I know my mind was on other things the day I snipped the tail) We are working on moving targets and things will happen. He still loves me though.
