  1. NKA that type of response only serves to alienate those that you need to work with, accusations and comments such as yours end up working against animals, not for them. I personally have worked with and have friends that are ACO's and I find your comment offensive, there are the wrong people in every Industry but I am sure there is a far greater proportion in the position for the right reason. Please don't forget if there were more responsible owners there wouldn't be so many issues to fix.
  2. Again as a pet owner and lover I offer my truest condolences to you and your family. I looked at one of my mini's last night who is only 25 inches tall and thought that he would have no chance if a dog came onto the property, I spent about 10 minutes crying into his neck thinking of the tragedy that you suffered. RIP little ones
  3. Yesterday afternoon the two cockers were out again chasing rabbits, they were running onto our property and then onto the road. I rang the neighbours to say they were on the road - 20 minutes later they drove past looking for them. By then I had already seen them run up the paddock and probably onto our other property. We went up to feed the horses/ponies and one donkey and didn't see them but they could have been anywhere. This time I left Jake off and they went in with the colt and donkey gelding but not near the other animals. The colt and donkey chased them out and luckily the dogs missed their hooves which were aimed at their heads.
  4. There is already a sytem in place for identifying what properties have livestock. Many people do not abide by it, but everytime we sell sheep etc we have to fill out our form to give the new owners details. The Property Identification Code is done through PIRSA All properties that run livestock (cattle, sheep, pigs etc) should be registered with PIRSA. Registration of livestock will help to maintain our overseas markets and also assist in improving production efficiency by permitting better national disease control programs. Registration means animals are identified individually or at least to their herd or flock and hence traceable, through the market chain, back to their property of origin. This is essential for control of the major infectious diseases, particularly exotic disease outbreaks such as foot-and-mouth disease. It is also imperative in resolving residue incidents. We have to let the know what livestock we keep eg sheep, cattle, goats, alpacas, camels, horses. Extra Info Who should use this form? All properties that run livestock (cattle, sheep, pigs etc) should be registered with Primary Industries and Resources SA (PIRSA). This form replaces the 'Application for Allotment of Property Identification Code' form. Why register? Registration of livestock will help to maintain our overseas markets and also assist in improving production efficiency by permitting better national disease control programs. Registration means animals are identified individually or at least to their herd or flock and hence traceable, through the market chain, back to their property of origin. This is essential for control of the major infectious diseases, particularly exotic disease outbreaks such as Foot-and-Mouth disease. It is also imperative in resolving residue incidents. Europe has already introduced birth to death traceability of livestock and is demanding trading partners adopt similar schemes. How are animals identified? Property Identification Code (PIC) numbers are allocated to all properties running cattle, sheep, pigs, deer, goats, alpacas and buffalo. The PIC number is used on Livestock Identification devices as the primary method of identification. However, for Pigs and Apiaries, the primary method of identification is a Brand consisting of three letters. Currently all cattle, including calves, must be identified with an approved device bearing the registered PIC before they leave the property for sale or slaughter. This enables the source of any disease or chemical residue to be traced back to the property of origin.
  5. We are seroius about doing a trek, once the house is built we are hoping to do the 15 day Simpson Desert trek for a start with a tour. My sister and brother in laws do industrial upholstering so can make most of what we need when our guys are ready when we are older. We have a saddle and my OH is a welder and is going to make more for us too. If you could pm me there details I will contact them when they get back, I am interested in finding out who the SA camels came from as I know most of them down here Thank you
  6. I do have a CASD and the reason we got him was because of d!ckhead neighbours finding it funny watching their jack russells chase my emus through barbed wire fences and my mare and her new born foal all in front of me, my partner and our children. The new neighbours have 2 cocker spaniels that wander and me being the nice neighbour put my flock guardian in the house so to avoid what the realistic outcome would be if he caught them, why? to avoid neighbourly conflict, they are nice people and nice dogs. I came home last Saturday night (and for some reason penned Jake before I left) to find my son's beloved bunny who we had recently fought tooth and nail to save from bloat missing. We had been on a waiting list for a year to get her breed and we all loved her dearly. We found her Monday night dead near their fenceline she was covered in dry slobber, the skin pulled from the bone on one leg. My guess is that she was a cocker play toy, I don't have proof but no fox slobbers all over rabbits and leaves no other bite marks except where they probably pulled her by the leg out of the pen. In future Jake will do what he was bred and raised to do and that is to live with, protect and defend his flock. The consequences are the dogs owners, not mine. My little boy cries every day for his pet and I cry with him and I am tired of losing beloved animals due to people that can't keep their animals on their property.
  7. In that instance no it's not fine that you get a slap on the wrist and a Dangerous Dog Order put on your dog because the person that has a dead pet because of YOUR animal will relive that attack every day because of YOUR carelessness. Going to court and getting a piddly bit of money does NOT take away that image or memory. The life of a pony, cat or chicken is just as valuable to their owner as your dog that has got onto someone elses property. Even if your dog chases someones pet causing death or injury to me that is as bad as an attack. It is peoples attitude that think their pet who is responsible for these attacks are not at fault is what makes these situations so devastating to the victims. This is why property owners shoot stray dogs even if they are not near stock and I can't blame them.
  8. My animals have the right to live safely on my property, dog owners have the responsibility to keep their dogs on their own property. If my boy wandered onto another property and was shot, then that is my fault - not his or the property owner
  9. I had an ex staff member whose GSD bitch had attacked and nearly killed their SWF (then gave swf away at a garage sale - luckily to another staff member who loves her), it then killed a swf which was walking on lead with it's elderly owner and then again attacked another swf that was being walked by it's owner. There has been NOTHING DONE about these owners or the dog, who is undesexed because they might have a litter because she has papers from a well known kennel 3 dogs and their owners lives deeply affected due to irresponsible owners and how has any law done anything about it? Each attack (apart from on their dog) was reported too.
  10. Sorry as an animal owner that had a pet killed by neighbours dogs recently and has also been in the situation with neighbours dogs attacking horses, sheep and pet emus I am now under the belief if they are caught they will not make it back home. I am tired of irresponsible owners that have dogs that can chase or kill peoples pets and/or livelihood and have little repercussions. I am sick of catching peoples dogs and taking them home, their dogs are their responsibility, not mine. My responsibilty is for my family and my animals. RIP little pony
  11. The little girl was on tv this morning and said it was being trained as a rescue dog that the uncle had for 6 weeks and said it should have never been taken to the house because of the cat. Hope all involved is ok
  12. Yup put me down for 3 (you know in case one dies I still have a pair), do you still promise they don't bite?. That little cutie patootie looks a little upset
  13. ooh sorry my mistake, now looking at his picture again I feel so foolish. But you still didn't answer my question will he grow into his tank/enclosure? I am still annoyed at the last Breeder that sold me the daneadonkey and they promised it was tea cup size, so I need to be sure this time
  14. Ooh I want one, I presume that are like normal turtles/tortoises and grow into their tank/enclosure? They obviously look pure bred so I presume they are guaranteed to be free of any diseases? And the best bit is if we go away on a holiday we can just leave him in the vegie patch to take care of himself, what a bonus
  15. Just mark it as Junk mail and put them on the blocked senders list, that's what I've done
  16. When I got Zippy she had virtually no hump, she was very underweight as you can see now her hump is very healthy My dream is to go on a camel trek, I am very jealous of you having your vistors I could listen to their adventures for days
  17. My baby Holly is a rescue from the culls up north, she is 3 months old (and drinking 7 litres of milk per day). Zippy is an ex racing camel (7 yrs) and she is HUGE and Sahara is a 3 year old bull camel that I bought as an 8 month old. His mum is the main camel in the movie Kangaroo Jack. I am still going to get a white one and also a black one, my cousin has seen pieds or pintos up North too. We have saddled Zippy and ridden her once, she has been very badly handled in the past but is getting much better. I find the main issue with them is when excited they jump and throw their front legs out and kick with their back legs so it is scary when caught in the middle of them. Zippy has given me one good kick in the thigh, I didn't realise they could kick sideways and she got me while I was doing up the girth. I had a lovely bruise for about 2 weeks.
  18. Krisilin once you spend time with a camel you will understand why I love my 3 so much. Having the baby Holly and listening to her little love grunts warms my heart. Giving her kisses while she drinks her bottle are some of my favouritte times of the day.
  19. As soon as my next door neighbours 2 cockers get out of their poorly fenced run they take off, generally to our property chasing my animals. In fact my son's pet bunny was missing from it's pen by my bedroom door when we got home Saturday night. We found her body covered in dry slobber and one leg stripped to the bone near their fenceline yesterday. Roaming dogs on property are a hazzard and I am tired of warning irresponsible people. Jake my CASD does not roam at all, and luckily for the cockers, not so for our pet he was penned Saturday afternoon In future Jake will be left free to do what he does best and that is protect our animals from predators. I have had animals taken by foxes so I know it wasn't a fox kill and these dogs have been caught harassing our animals many times before. The other concern is birds/animals dropping 1080 baits on unbaited properties.
  20. The puppy may be 6 weeks and 5 days old but that really makes no diffrerence it was still waaay too young
  21. Pets Paradise is a franchise, they are individual store owners. They pay for the franchise and then buy from the group, pay back % of sales/advertsing nationally etc. I do not believe that the master franchise owner would help out individual franchisees with individual problems. I have employed a lady that owned 2 PP stores for over 20 years and was left with nothing, some stories I have hear certainly take the "shine" off owning any franchise. I personally do not agree with their philosophies at all , but as I mentioned each store owner is different and each ones decision on the medical treatment is their own.
  22. now if you just replaced the l with a c
  23. Naturally! Cool I will go to my bank today to apply for a line of credit Thanks for being so generous, thoughtful and helpful I wish there were more breeders like you
  24. Sounds fair as I am just an average consumer. I presume I am responsible for all vet care and food for said animals and their offspring and they are returned to you at weaning?
  25. Now if you could cross those big flaarfies with a ferretoodle I will be in. What about breeders term? are you interested? I have a few nice cages oops free range enclosures that would suit. I take it they are quite comfortable on cement?
