Complex Tricks Using Targeting

I wouldn't call paw on the face a 'complex' trick though - It might not meet the requirements for your training course. -
Complex Tricks Using Targeting

I've started it with my two... we are half way there - no somersaults have been performed yet though! -

You can try teaching a somersault... -
I agree - do this any time! The benefits of it is that it teaches the dog some basic shaping and helps them learn how to learn! They think for themselves and work out what exactly you want and that experimenting with different things is rewarding. It's not only fun for the dog but also beneficial for you later on if you want to shape other things (with a goal in mind) because the dog will know how the process works.

Shaping- What Have You Taught?
TerraNik replied to Cosmolo's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hahahaha.. I want videos! I forgot to video this one! I'll see if I can find time on the weekend. -
Oh yay! I'm the second member (after angelsun)!

My two both love roo. My keeshond practically lives off the stuff because he's allergic to chicken/turkey. I buy roo mince from coles/woolies and roo tail from the pet warehouse store. Just watch out though, it can be too rich for some dogs.

Gettign Ready To Trial In Ccd
TerraNik replied to Joan of Arc's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My (limited) experience has been that the lagging behind is a lack of drive and poor handler body language. The moment I built up Jedi's food drive and started walking with a purpose, was the moment he stopped lagging. When heeling, instead of me moving my hand towards his face, I made him drive forward to get it while heeling - so he learned that the rewards come when he's that little bit further ahead from where he was positioning himself. These subtle changes have made the difference. -
Good luck and have fun! We were supposed to take our two dogs herding training this weekend, but my lappie has just come into season, so that rules her out!!! I might just take my keeshond.

Thanks!! -
We did the sit, stay, recall it at the beginning but I cut it out of the video because it's kinda boring!

I just uploaded Ahsoka's HIC test - I'm not surprised there were 50!! They were extremely busy!! It was fantastic that they paired it with a show though - the reason why we haven't gone to do the HIC test before was because we were busy with shows! So it was perfect!
-
I know! I expected to have to do a lot more!! Jedi was in with the sheep for 46 seconds or something and that included walking up to the sheep!
-
Thanks!!!! Well done. Do you know if any other Keeshond or Finnish Lappund have participated in the ANKC herding program? Would love to see pics or video if them working. There is one other keeshond - Schatje in Victoria, owned by Armahani kennels. To my knowledge Jedi and Schatje are the only two keeshonds in herding. Schatje has his HT and I'm hoping Jedi will be able to go further. This was his instinct test - Armahani's finnish lapphunds also have their HIC or HT. There are a few photos on her website of them under each dog (if you scroll down on their individual pages) - http://www.armahani.com/

Jedi and Ahsoka both passed their instinct tests today!!!!!! They'd both never been near sheep before and I thought Jedi (keeshond) wouldn't take any notice of the sheep, but he had more of a reaction to them than Ahsoka (finnish lapphund)!! It was lots of fun!

Looking For Suggestions For Puppy Classes
TerraNik replied to Tilly's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
You can go with your dog - it's only an issue if you let your dog approach the dogs there. But seeing as you would just be exposing your dog to the environment and it's not your intention to let it interact with other dogs, then you should be fine. -

I don't 'do' puppy classes... I think you can socialise your pup fine without them. The suggestions given to you above are really good. -
Good luck!!!!

Where To Buy Wooden Dumbells?
TerraNik replied to trifecta's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Jedi refused the plastic dumbbells when we started so I got the wood, but now that he knows the retrieve he will take anything into his mouth including plastic dumbbells and random objects. Phew! -

Yup I have one from them too... I haven't had any problems with it breaking - I throw it around the lounge room which has tiled floors and no issues so far! It is very soft though...
