What % Of Dogs Weight Do You Feed Them
tlc replied to sllebasi's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I usually go on about 2 - 2.5% depending on what they have done for the day. I had a friend who was working on the same principal but the thing was she has got en extremely over weight boy and she was going on his current weight, I explained to her that the amount she should feed has to be on his ideal weight which cut back his food considerably. Hope that makes sense. -
I've been keeping an eye out round the streets for this one. Hope he turns up soon.

God there are some arseholes in the world! I'm definatley not watching the viseo, the story is enough.

I totally agree with you! I do my lot on average around every 8 - 10 weeks and the longer they get the more brushing dematting they need. With all of mine around the 7 - 12 month stage was when they lost thier puppy coat and thier adult coat started to come through, it is a nightmare time for these sorts of crosses with matts occuring over night but with proper grooming this can be avoided. I know a few owners of these dogs that were told never to clip before the adult coat come through, they say it will damage the coat, I think thats a load of rubbish as the coat is going to get clipped off anyway?? Not sure about purebreds that have coats that need to be clipped regularly.

Snap poodle fan! I never took mine that early but did lots of preparation for when they needed to go and did a lot myself. I didn't stick with pro groomer long I decided I would give it a go myself and we haven't looked back.

A few things you can do in preparation for thier first clip if you don't want to take your pup to the groomers so early, regular brushing so pup gets used to the brush starting immediatley. Take pup in the bathroom with you while you are using the hairdryer. If you have an electric shaver or hair clippers turn them on around pup without making a fuss and/or feeding some treats. I know a few people who have similar cross and did no prep and took pup to groomers at around 7 months for clip and the dogs just didn't cope. It is something that your pup will require frequently so the more pleasant the experience the better, for the pup and the groomer. Nothing worse than grooming an uncooperative dog! if you are confident you could do around eyes, ears backside yourself, or take pup to groomer and get them to show you how to do it yourself.

I'm no expert on size, just wanted to say cute pup! What were his parents like size wise that should give some indication, can you speak with your pups breeder they would have the best idea of size for age.

Hi and welcome. Is there any way you can feed puppy in the middle of he day as well? 10 hours is too long in between for 9 week old puppy IMO. I never used puppy pads and prefer to take them out at night, mine all slept in my room so I heard them if they cried for the toilet. Usual one pitstop a night for the first few months then they sleep right through. I see you are in Vic and coming onto winter now it's getting very cold so if pup has to be outside, warm bedding is important. Your set up sounds ok, and everyone is different, my thought would be somedays are too cold outside but if your at work all day there maybe no other option? Dog door perhaps so puppy can access an inside area if too cold out. Good on you for seeking advice. DOL is a great place and some lovely people here. With your puppy being a cross breed you will do better by calling her CKCS x Poodle. Any photos? Love puppy pictures!

Well I hate to say it, I reckon it's been a little over 2 months, not so bad at the start but getting progressivly worse over the past few weeks. I had all the trouble with my tooth so had to get that all out f the way first, one thing at a time don't you know!!

Arghhh geez I really have a dislike for all things doctor! Apparently now the doctor thinks I have an abscess deep in my toe along with the ingrown nail which would have caused the abscess in the first place. so another lot of AB's plus repeat and next Tuesday i go back for the big chop, he joked he would take the whole toe and I said please do. Anyway he thinks after I have it done I will be a million bucks, I sure hope he is right because I am over the pain of the toe and the sickness from the Antibiotics!! Geez what a whinger!!

Great idea for a thread Jess, I will watch with interest. I would love a bit of land, who knows down the track what might happen. Back yard big enough for a bit of equipment but not a lot. We only do it for fun though. Hope people add pics of thier set ups! Geez I just reread the end of your post, you'd have a pretty good set up with a few million!

God help me, I am sitting in the doctors waiting room and god help me I'm really not impressed, I hate them with a passion! Just had to vent that little cherub of information!!

Last year I got pulled up for breathalizer I had all the dogs in the back seat 2 unrestrained and 2 not (they are usually in the back of the wagon, with cargo barrier) and two of them had a little bark as the cop leaned down to give me the thing to breath into, while saying "gee how many dogs you got in there," I say "4" and the cop says "cute dogs, ok your right to go seeya" So not real sure about Vic but then again maybe the cops don't really know either?

Happy Birthday Chatta!! Don't be a stranger, pop in and say hi, we haven't seen you for a while? How is your boy after his op? All good now I hope. Jj your right about the weather, not really beach weather! Seans gone to him mums and he has two of the dogs with him and I have the other two. I guess with mine they play a lot with each other when they are inside especially on the crappy days and they have a toy box that would make a kid envious! Even Cooper partakes in the odd game of chasey and tug with the younger 3. unny though he went through a period where he wouldn't even look at a toy let alone play with one but since he has come out of his hating men thing that he went through he is much more playful. We had one of Seans friends here the other night who Cooper hated with a passion and we always kept him outside when he was here but now it's like he is his best friend. The thing that switched in Coops brain to make him like he was has definatley switched back and I hope it stays that way. But I don't think it happened on its own, it was a hard road to get him back but I did. to me! Im rambling now..... I love my doggies!!

Could he have been stressed at the groomers and his tounge was poking out/panting maybe more than usual? I have never noticed it with any of my dogs unless they are hot. Definatley not while resting. I'm sure if you popped into or rang your vet to have a chat they would give you more info. Cute puppy by the way, What is he??
