Lacy And Tully And Thier Quest To Become Delta Dogs

Wow you will have a ball Shell and so will Zero, I hope once we get up and running here we will be able to do something similar to get others involved, so far there is only one other Delta Dog in our town (DOLer Mawson) and we have just got our first facility which is the kids ward at the hospital, which will be great!! When do you do your first visit to a facility? It will be interesting to see how Zero goes with the lifts etc, can't wait to see your photos. When Cooper was younger I was such a protective puppy mum, I took him to Southern Cross station one day and had to up the huge escalator and I was petrified he wouldn't go on his own so I carried him  and there were two girls whispering on the other side on the way down and when they got closer they asked me if he was real or if he was a big doggy teddy. i guess it would be an easy mistake to make when he looked like this :D My mum had this pic on her fridge and my Step sis also thought he was a Teddy!! Delta dogs can visit hospitals and nursing homes etc, have a read about it here http://www.deltasocietyaustralia.com.au/pet_partners.htm -

Hi Guys, I thought I might document my girls journey to become Delta Dogs and make a thread to follow thier progress. All paper work is fill out I have fabulous references for me and the girls done by some wonderful friends who know us well. Then today was the visit to the vets for the vet exam which both girls passed with flying colors. I am very proud of my girls and can't wait till the next step which will be the Delta assessment day hopefully sometime in the next couple of months.

I love pets and the city, they don't sell live animals, lots and lots of nice trendy stuff for dogs and cats. Wendy the prop is lovely and she usually has her two cockers in the shop with her, Georgie and Lilly. heres a link http://www.petsandthecity.com.au/

You have to master the doodle pyramid first! We are working on it!

Yes someone mentioned them in the other thread, I did think I might try them but if he doesn't like them I'll be stuck with them and I don't want to have to force him to have them. I know I am making a big thing of this who dilemma but seriously you have no idea what this boy can be like re food, it has been an on going drama his whole life. Now I have finally found a way to keep him healthy without to much hassle and now to have to stuff around with getting him to have the JG is just a pain. But I want to do it and do it as painlessly as possible for him and for me!!

Count me in for either afternoon or both actually, hope the weather is good. I don't finish work till 1 on Saturday and on Sunday should be done with training around 12ish.

Oh thanks so much, It has been working a treat for the last couple of nights, tiny amount of liver mushed up with water and add his EP and the 5mg or joint guard and he has eaten the whole thing. I think I will definatley use SecretKeis suggestion and next time I cook the liver I will use some of the water it is cooked in and that can be the liquid amount I mix the JG into. edited to add, I dont use liver treats much but if he had any I only use like thumb nail size bits if I have a few on me when we go out and about.

Thanks again for all the good advice, I don't even think Ill bother with the tablets I have a feeling he would jack up and not wanna take them and I don't want to have to force a table on him every day. I have started a new thread on amounts of liver that is safe to feed as I just feel that this is going to be the best way to get him to take it. I had to feed him liver as a youngster to get him interested in food, he really loves it. Thanks again

tlc, if the liver works and he likes it why don't you try making up some stock by simmering some liver (and perhaps a little chicken or beef) in water, then mixing the joint guard in with the liquid and through his dry food. That way he'll still get the taste without over doing it Oh I just seen this reply in the other thread, thats a really good idea, I don't know why I didn't think of it my self, I could maybe leave a few morsals of the actual liver in it for a bit more taste, you know all the crumby bits you get when you boil it up!

I know giving to much liver to dogs is not good for them but I was wondering how much liver could I give per day to a dog around 19 kilos. Could he safely have 25-30g a day with no ill effect? It is to make him eat his food with joint guard in it, story here http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=200734 http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=200846 I could have asked this question in one of the other threads but I thought doing a separate thread would get me a more varied response as not everyone goes back to read threads they have already replied in. Hoping someone will be able to help.

If your concerned about the ball getting stuck, it does happen. A GSD at our dog school got a tennis ball stuck in his neck, could not get it out and by the time they got him to the vet he had died. If I had a large breed I would be wary after hearing this, but in saying that, it is hard to live your life worrying about every little scenario that can happen.

Thanks for the heads up, will check it out. I havent tried directly onto his food as he has dry mostly and he usually doesnt eat the whole lot in one go, my thought is that it would go to the bottom of the bowl and there is no way he woudl lick it out? So im still looking for a fool proof way to get him to eat it. Tonight I manged to get a whole 5mg dose in with his dry soaked in a bit of water and I mixed in some cooked (boiled liver) If only I could give him liver every night, not ideal I know but it is his ultimate favorite food. Thanks so much for the offer but no need as I will definatley look into the treat form, are they much more expensive than the powder? For Cooper weight he has to have 5 mg per day.
