I am about to buy a new blade for my Wahl ss clippers. I currently use a 10 blade and attach SS combs to get a longer cut usually the 3/8comb which give about a 10mm cut. The blade I'm going to buy is either a No 4 or No 3 (haven't decided yet) but what I need to know is whats the difference between the full blade and the skip blade. I think I just need the full blade but would like to know the difference between the two. Hoping someone can explain.

Thanks for the update . I am sure your dogs will pass. Was it you who posted some photos of one of your dogs visiting mother or mother in law in hospital --- sometime last year I think? Yep that was me, you have a good memory!! Both my girls have had a few visits to a couple of different facilities. my younger girl Tully has come along way, she had a big fright as a pup with a childs noisy big wheel bike and was scared of anything with wheels for a long time, but we have done a lot of work with her with wheel chairs and push trolleys and bikes and she is great now. The assesment will be in the next few months, So I am really looking forward to it!!

Does anyone else notice a lot of reflection during daylight hour, not necessarily night time? In certain light during the day I still notice the orangy reflection in Lacys eyes occasionally, this I have never noticed on another dog. It's hard to explain but also doesn't seem normal, hence all the questions! Greytmate, do you notice reflection during the day with coconut? I'm wondering if it is only dogs eyes that glow red that still reflect at times during the day in certain light.

Hi Guys, I was just wondering, I have been noticing for a long time now with Lacy (she is 3) in certain lights she has a kind of orangey/red reflection in her eyes that I never notice with the other 3. I have googled and found an explaination just wondering if anyone else notices this with thier dogs and is thier any other explaination for it? this is the explaination that I found.... The colored reflection from the eyes of dogs comes from a layer of tissue at the back of the eye (the choroid) that contains blood vessels, brown pigment cells, and, in most dogs, a shiny cell layer (the tapetum) covering mostly the upper half. This tapetum probably improves animals' vision at night. It may be yellow, green, blue, orange, or variations in between those colors. So the tapetum is the usual source of a dog's eye reflection. Some dogs, though, have very small tapeta or none at all and they show a very dull reflection or none at all. In other dogs, especially dogs with certain hair coat colors (liver, orange-brown) or with blue eyes (irises), very little pigment is present in the back of the eye and the blood vessels that are normally hidden by this pigment are visible and make the reflection bright red. Lacy also has more orangy red reflection in photos with the flash a few examples below, photos taken all around the same time with flash in the same room. Lacy has the reflection and nneither of the boys do, this could also be the angle the photos is taken but I notice it a lot. So after all the info I have read on the subject, I am now confused, is it that the more reflection the better the eyes or worse? According to the above explaination the bigger the tapetum the more reflection and the better the dog will see at night, but by that explaination if a dog has little to no reflection they possibly have very small or no tapetum, so wouldn't that mean they would have poor vision especially at night?? I hope I am making sense and that maybe someone in the know can put it in simpler terms so I can get my head around it.

Sounds like half of W'bool is going to be out of town tomorow hey Jess, do you get your pigs ears from Best friends, I always stock up there as they are cheap with my discount card although the last time I was there they had gone up a little bit.

Hi MM, yes it was a great day! Maws is still doing hospital visits, infact Shan is now the team leader for our general area and we are in the process of getting facilities nearby to join up to Delta Our nearest visiting facility is over 2 hours away so it will be great if we can get a couple in the area to sign up. I am having my girls assessed at the next assesment, I'm hopeful they will pass and become therapy dogs too. We have visited a few facilities in the area unofficially and they have loved it so hopefully they will pass.

No not this year, I have 3 days off instead!! YAY.... I actually got two corporate invites this year, one from Dulux and Both Sean and I from his work. Its typical though if we wanted to go we probly wouldn't have got any I loved the races years ago and went a lot when I lived in Melb but can't really be bothered now!

Anyone been/heading to the races? Definatley not the weather for it!!

Hi Shell, I only have a cheapie from the reject shop, it attaches around the head rests and has seat belt holes, it is supposed to be water proof but I have never had any spills so I don't really know. I am on my second one as I wasn't careful with taking it out when people sat in the back seat and the straps around the head rest snapped. As I said in my other thread mine are usually in the rear if they are wet or dirty. But when we go away they are always in the back seat and it has survived quite well. I also use a big blanket over the whole seat as well for extra protection. Not sure if it would be strong enough quality for the big fella and I am thinking that you would more than likely get hair down the seat belt holes so it might not be any good but just thought I'd mention it. Will Zero fit in the very back?

Well its funny you say that cause I said to my OH lets not be hasty till we have a drive. Before I got my Rav 4 I had my heart set on a Holden cruze and when I drove it I was horrified it was just terrible to drive on the open road, no guts and so much body roll I couldn't believe it. Erny PM gone your way!!

Thanks Ellz will keep it in mind. I'm hoping he goes the way of a breeder in Vic as I'm not sure the one he has seen in Tassie is a reg breeder (only guessing) I have given him contacts for all the Vic Breeders on the breed pages so hopefully he will make a good choice. I am still suprised at the cost of flying a pup I really thought it would be a lot more!! Thanks again for all the replys.

Thanks guys most helpful!!
-
Wow so it is not as Expensive as I thought it would be. I was thinking over $1000. Thanks for the info.
-
Thanks so much, that has given us a great start, I didn't have a clue. He has found a breeder in Tassie he liked but wanted to have all the info on how to get the pup to Vic if he decides to go that way. Im just in the process now of making him a list of Rotty Breeders in Vic from the DOL breeder pages. Thanks again!
-
Would anyone know roughly what the cost of flying a Rotty pup from Tassie to Vic would be? Just looking for a rough cost for a friend? Thought I'd get the quickest response here, then he can do a ring around the airlines for the best price. I have no idea where to even help him start?? Thanks for any info on price!!

Your right that was one thing my Oh said about the warranty if the car has had it's 10.000km service then the 5 year 100.000km warranty should still be valid. Will definatley be checking it all out as soon as we know about the finance, don't wanna jinx it at this stage, but I'm making a list. I was always under the impression years ago that hyundai's were jsut throw away cars but I think they have come a long way in recent times and surely if thier warranty is that good they must be doing something right. thanks for your advice it is much appreciated!!
-
Thanks again Cointreau, but don't go to any trouble. In the next day or so we should know for sure about our finance so we will head back to the car yard and check out the one they have on the lot and maybe take it for a drive. ari.g the Rav 4 has me drooling, My OH only siad to me last night he thought the newer model would be much bigger in the back and it looks huge. My Rav 4 was the last of the old model so no where as big especially in the rear and that was the reason for swapping to the wagon. I looked at a used one the other day (looked same as yours) but sadly about 5k out of my price range!! notsodogless, the captive sounds great. Couldn't you get a rubber mat to go in the back over the carpeted area? I have one for the wagon and they are great and it really saves the carpet!! Pax I better not look at the IX35 it will be something else to drool over no doubt!! The Tucson in the car yard has only done 14.000kms but makes me wonder what is wrong with it??

Tez, I think you can basically donate as little or as much of your time as you want to. Obviously if you decide to do it, they do like some level of commitment to a point but it depends how willing you would be to put in the time. I could be as little as say one visit a week for maybe an hour. So I guess it just depends if you want to put in that amount of time. Shannon knows the ins and outs but I think the organisation like the facilitys to have regular visits. With not havng any facitlities here yet it is hard to tell what they will expect. But I know there is guide lines Delta stick to with regards to visits. I guess it would be hard for full time workers like yourself to commit to an amount of time cause you don't get a lot of spare time with other everyday things you need to do in your down time!! In a perfect world I wish all my doggy friends only worked part time actually in a perfect world I wish all my doggy friends and me didn't have to work at all How awesome would that be!!
-
Your right Tez, the long line definatley give you piece of mind that you still have that level of control! You will probly find with Jane over time as she gets older all the things that stimulate her now will fade and she will even out and you will be able to rely on her recalling a lot better. But like Cooper even after nearly 4 years he still will test the boundries and I am always on the look out for possible scenarios that he will buck the system too but like I said he is getting better and better all the time and seems to know now if he doesn't come when I want him to its like he knows he has done the wrong thing. I can't quite explain what I mean but it's like he can't help himself and when he does come back its like oh mum I really tried to be good but I just couldn't help it Bindii I really related to your story when your thread appeared and I knew exactly what you were going through, the pure and utter helplessness was just beyond anything, such a horriible feeling. Certainly opened my eyes to things that can happen. Thankfully our fur babes lived and made us more vigilant to boot!!

With my lot I have had the best and worst of both worlds, my oldest has crap recall but working on it all the time is fun and he is getting better and better all the time even though he is nearly 4. My next youngest is head strong and has good recall especailly if there is a perilous situation she will just run to me automatically which is great but when she decides to do her own thing it is like she is deaf but I mention food and she comes running With my younger two I'm not sure If I have become a better trainer over time and using methods that work better but thier recall is really great. But I think I will definatley do a few off the cuff tests with them over the next few weeks just to see how good thier recall really is. What I am refering to is basic every day situations, like we go to off lead parks and off lead walks all the time so recall is really important to me and by the same token I never go anywhere that I would need to rely on recalling them away from a road etc as has been stated in other posts basically there can always be unforseen circumstances and you just never know. I had a very close call with Cooper when he was much younger and I have always been very wary ever since. Reminded me of another DOLers story a while back, I think it was Bindii with Hugo and Fletcher (I apologise if I have got that wrong) chasing a rabbit I think it was?? What happened with me was Cooper decided to take off while we were walking in the park to cross a busy road to visit one of my friends He just stuck his nose up in the air took one sniff and then just took off running like a maniac through the park across a busy road with me running flat out behind him screaming at the top of my lungs for him to come back.... arghhhh there was no way he was coming back and I just thought I was going to be sick the stress of watching him cross that road and there was nothing I could do. Anyway when I got to him standing at the gate of my friends house I was so relieved I cried but I just wanted to strangle him. Anyway I think that incident was probly what made me more vigilant with other 3. If I see people walking dogs without a lead around the street I shudder, I just think what happens if something catches thier eye across the street what hope would the owner have of calling them back?? Anyway after saying all that I guess I don't really think that any dog could be 100% reliable in thier recall. Id like to change my original post to 98% not 100% Threads like this certainly put your brain to work to make you think about things!!
