A quick update, you guys have given me a lot to think about. we have decided now to trade in the OH's work car and keep the wagon, which puts a different spin on things. I still need something big enough for all the dogs as they are usually with me 99% of the time but I will still have the wagon for dirty doggy days like the beach and wet winter training days and winter walks when they get ferrel and filthy as Oh and I can just swap cars for the day on those days. So the newer car will be able to be kept relatively clean. Oh is still leaning towards another wagon so we (me and the dogs) still have all the room we are used too. Tonight I looked at a Hyundai Tusan 2007 model and I really loved it, Oh thinks there must be something wrong with it as it has only done 14000 kms and it is just over $20.000 he also thinks the rear is not big enough for all the dogs if I need to put the dogs in there. Usually now what I do to keep the car reasonably clean is if the dogs are clean they are in the back seat and if they are dirty they go in the back. I think it would be better for long trips especially if I am on my own because there is a lot more room for the dogs in the back seat!! Anyway I'm just talking out loud now LOL Someone said they had a Hyundai I think it was cointreau with the Dane so Im trying to figure out if 4 medium sized dogs are the same size as a dane Can you also tell me with the rear of the Tusan it looks like it can be made longer by putting the seats forward? We have also looked at a mitsubitshi outlander and I like it a lot too. For the ones with smaller dogs and high up cars, if your dogs are to small to jump in I'm guessing you have to lift them in? Two of mine would be able to jump in the back of the Hyundai or similar size but the other two would have to be lifted which I can see that will be a right pain in the butt to have to do on a daily basis. Also in the Hyundai does not have a cargo barrier and I can't see that one could be fitted?? I did notice you can buy a universal cargo barrier at Autobarn does anyone have one of these I am wondering how they are attached??

CM, love your shots for the last two weeks, especially the dark one, how did you get the effect is it light painted? Evolving, How cool is Echo.....You put your right leg in, you put your right leg out!!

I agree with Sandra, a bell for them to ring to go out so you can hear them is a great idea. I have one also who sits at the door but doesn't make a sound now she rings a bell it works great and the other dogs have worked it out too and I didn't even have to teach them!! Good Luck.

Corvus I just watched your video, that was great, how funny when Max turns up you could almost say he was stalking and he did look kind of threatening then it was like whoaaa lets play a big game to them!! I didn't realize how fluffy Kivi was till I watched that Video, georgous doggies you have there. I do agree about the ages of the dogs and the way they play I think that is why all mine get on so well there is only 7 months of age between each of them. Although Cooper doesn't play much with the younger 2 he still gets on well with them and looks out for them like a big brother which I love. Here is another couple of snippits from me from today, still not at thier most rambunctious but you get the picture. And also today a dog we always see at the park his name is Bruce he is a beautiful GSP who my guys have known from a pup but he is crazy at the park he runs in at 100 miles an hour and all of mine say hello then he takes off the same way and mine chase him with not a hope of catching him. :rofl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnA64iTqPlI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4k8rWznNDc In the second Video you see Tully stop behind the jump cause she knows Cooper is hot on her tail. Heres Bruce You can see how big our off leash park is in there pictures it is a great spot and always lots of friendly dogs for the gang to play with!!

Maws and Coop watching the SEDA dogs Cooper and Mawson had a run with the dogs, Mawson loved it but Coop was a bit overwhelmed with so many excited Labs around him!! Cooper all tuckered out. It was a great morning and we really enjoyed ourselves as did Maws and Coop, but I don't think they will be leading any blind people around any time soon even though they thought they were honourary SEDA dogs Thanks to Laura for asking us to come and help out!!

Thats great news CB, you must be so excited!! Please keep us posted on mums progress and look forward to puppy shots when they arrive. Shannon and I were lucky enough today to spend the morning helping out with the SEDA dogs who are now around 9 months old. Also you may remember Pickles, Lauras SEDA pup, well today was his last day in town he is off to the next chapter of his life now to train to become a Seeing eye dog. Im sure he will do really well as he is great dog. Ill miss seeing his face around the place. Here is some photos of the morning. Roxy and Bullet watched quietly as the dogs did thier training, good doggies!! This is Olivia, she is an x SEDA dog who lives with Lauras family. She came to help out too. Olivia doing a demo for the handlers on leave it with the food bowl. Pickles giving Bullet a cuddle. Shan with Maws and Coop.

I agree, I love it that mine play rough and they certainly know each others boundries. Let them be dogs is a great slogan

happy Birthday Bert you little cutie!! My oldest is about to turn 4 next weekend, I can't believe where the time has gone!! Great photos, looks like he had a great party!!

I just use a regular umpires whistle. If in the event I don't have the whistle and need to get Cooper to come back in a hurry I use an ultra really high pitched voice and my magic word is treats, that usually works also but I find the whistle does work the best in emergenccy situations. I try not to over use it otherwise it doesn't have the desired effect. I have really found with age that my lot just get better and better, occasionally Cooper will buck the system but on the whole I haven't had to worry about them at all and we go to off lead parks all the time so they know the drill.

Corvus I definatley agree mine play so differently with each other than they do with other dogs. They stalk each other and I have seen Bronson go flat out towards Lacy and if she doesn't see him coming he just full body slams into her and then they do a crazy dance but if she sees him coming she runs as fast as her little legs will carry her but he always catches her. They are so rough. Cooper doesn't often join in but if he does he usually only plays with Lacy. He likes to break them up if he thinks they are getting to rough. The other week he ran in to break them up and Tully was running flat out and they collided heads, I thought for sure one of them would be knocked out. They must have the hardest skulls!! They all have thier little playing techniques, Lacy does this move with her fat bottom and uses it as a weapon soooo cute!! If the girls play with other dogs at the dog park Bronson goes in and pull them away from the other dog? I think it is a jealousy thing they are definatley his girls! He doesn't get agro at the other dog but he just pulls the girls away and back to him. I love watching them play and seeing the little tactics they use with each other and the dynamics that running with other dogs brings. last weekend we went to my friends who has Bronsons 2 brothers but much older and she also has a mini shnauzer Harriet. Harriet was so desperate to play with my lot she tried and tried to join in but my lot just acted like she wasn't even there and just went on playing with each other, it was really funny to watch. Corus I will have to wait till tomorow to watch your video as I have swapped Pc's and this one is too slow for You tube! Your two sound like a hoot, I can really imagine Eric being quite the character!! I bet Kivi didn't know what hit him when you added Eric to the mix.

Awww Newfsie, they look so cute playing together, They didn't sound like they were making any noise in that video, are they usually vocal dogs or fairly quiet?

Hi, Have you considered using a whistle to use at times when you need her to recall immediatley. My oldest boy nearly 4 has always been a very sociable dog and his recall is not 100 percent reliable but better now with the whistle in emergency situations. All I did to teach is to have two whistles you have one and get another person to have one. Arm yourself with doggy favorite food and make a distance between you and the other person, we did it inside the house in seperate rooms so the dogs had to find the other person. One person have the dog with them the other person whistle as soon as the dog gets to the whistling person treat the dog. Then just wait a few minutes and do it again with the other person whistling. I did this for about 3 days in a row, twice a day for 5 minutes each time before I put it into practice out and about and It works wonders. All my younger ones have excellent recall anyway so it was really for Coopers benefit but it really works I would say his recall is about 95 percent better now than it was before. But one thing I still always do is if I have to use the whistle (and I only use it if I really need to) I always treat. so if I am just recalling with my voice occasionally I might treat but with the whistle the treat is definatley given. Anyway not sure how other people whistle train but this worked for me. Also good for one place we go where there is a lot of bush tracks the dogs explore and if they get out of ear shot and can't hear me the whistle is great for that too.

Great Video Ruth, they look like they are having a lot of fun!! I will admit mine are not at thier most rambunctious in the links I have posted. I have never thought to take any footage of them playing till today. usually it is only footage of them being clever or quiet and alseep. They are at there most playful at the park, I'll see if I can get some of them when we go tomorow. molasseslass, you are dead right non dog people just don't get it. I love watching them play. My only bug bear with them doing it at the park is that they are usually right under my feet, does anyone else have this happen. Like they havee the whole park to themselves and they have to go crazy inbetween and around my feet. Whats with that?? If I leave Tully and Bronson together I take thier collars off, but I know they sleep most of the time that I am not home.

Definatley I totally agree. here is a couple of Vids of my lot playing, actually these are not as full on as they can get, I think they were playing it down because I was filing them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkBnri4NU0Y This is why Bronsons collars get ruined. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrvgZv5jOKU...feature=channel Bronson getting frustrated because he couldn't get in on the action. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poUAowqkdpI...feature=channel All I see in these clips is doggys having fun!

Sounds good. So I have CS 4 the full version will it mean I can pay for the upgrade or will I have to buy a whole new copy?
-
Ah well seems it is just normal then which is what I always thought. Cooper and Lacy have had a couple of real fights and not in play. You can definatley tell if it is serious!! I will post a video shortly just uploading now.

Waiting with baited breath here too!! Charche is gonna be a star!!

Hi guys, I just wondered if any of you guys with multi dog households have any videos you could post of how your dogs play together. I am particularly interested in how rough or not rough they play together and what do you consider normal. Occasionally I have people tell me my dogs (the younger 3) are fighting but to me it is play and it never escalates to anything more than a yelp if it gets out of hand then they all back off....unless Cooper comes in and tells them all to behave. I think sometimes people read them wrong because Bronson and Lacy are quite vocal when they play.

Linda, sounds like you have your hands full!! At least you have the net....

Pack Management Suggestions Please
tlc replied to westielover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My lot are only on their own for around 5 hours at a time and only for 4 days of the week. In this time they are all inside two in the front half of the house and two in the back half of the house. not for any particular reason but since they were all young I have never left them all together for long periods of time. However if I am ducking up the street to an appointment for an hour or so I will leave them all together either outside or inside. Thinking about it now I really don't know why I separate them as they all sleep the whole time when I'm gone (I video taped them one day to see what they get up to while I'm gone!) When they are inside on thier own they just have the run of there areas, (bedroom & Kitchen/dining) both big areas, no crating, I even leave the ceiling fan on for them in summer and the heater in winter and Im sure I'm not the only one who does this. ;) They know the drill too, they see me getting ready for work and shortly after I put my work clothes on they go to their areas and wait for thier treat before I walk out the door. When I'm not working and I head for the door they are all hot on my heals ;)
