  1. so they can win Best Show Dog on Dogz Online
  2. Bout 4 and half hours drive from Adelaide - sometimes less.
  3. Rommy pulls more in one of these than with a chain and lead.
  4. Let me just say - I am not a breeder... Until I came onto this forum, I would never have thought that it was the breeder's responsibility to rehome a dog that they had bred. My view was (and still is) that if you take on the responsibility of a dog, then it is your responsibility and it is a life-long committment. It is not the responsibility of my breeder to take back a puppy just because my circumstances change, or it is too much for me or whatever. My breeder, though, is someone who will help with re-homing and also, as part of the whole screening process for their new puppies, will often tell people that if things don't work out in the first couple of weeks, and the family are finding it hard, will take the puppy back with a full refund. I applaud both my breeder and many of you who decide that you will rehome the dogs that you have bred if you need to. That is a really good thing that you do. As far as expecting a refund for the dog you return.... unless it is coming back in the first few weeks - absolutely not! People need to learn responsibility for the decisions that they make. Dog owners should be grateful that there are breeders around who will 'take their dog off their hands' for them, not expect them to also pay for that privilege. I would never part with my dog - but understand that circumstances may arise where she might have to go back to the breeder (if I get run over by a bus for example). I love that I have that security that her breeder will make sure she is looked after and rehomed.
  5. could be a hip joint injury or where the leg joins the back. (seratic (sp) joint? - forget the name). Doesn't have to be a foot injury for your dog to limp. Chasing and running fast, with sharp turns can joint injuries in dogs. Your vet will be able to help you out.
  6. sounds like an allergy to grass (or similar) my dog is allergic to kikuyu - will bite and lick her paws after being on it. I changed my small amount of lawn at home to cooch and she is much better. Can't avoid the kikuyu altogether but can minimise the contact. Antihisthamene from the vet and a topical spray helps when things get really bad
  7. deelee - do you think the sky-writing was there while you were in class - or did it only appear afterwards? What I'm getting at is - would she act like that in the middle of a class (or a trial)? If it was there during class and she didn't notice because she was busy concentrating on her training - then that is a positive. If not - I have no ideas
  8. Thats so true E But why move the goal posts just because you can. Doesnt make it fair for all. Many many shows here in Qld do not get entries of over 750 try being in SA then where you only have 3 shows in Adelaide for the whole of january and february - and yes that is three actual shows - not double headers or anything. (And then, there are only 2 all breed champ shows scheduled for march) (oops - we did have four but one got cancelled under hot weather policy where SACA rules where misapplied!!! bet those entered in that show were not impressed when show was cancelled, the lost their entry fee and the temp that day at location was only forecast for 33C and ended up being 28C - oops sorry - off topic rant...) nowhere near the number of shows I see scheduled for qld over the same time period.
  9. tried taking some of rommy with the lens tonight while I was also watering the garden. Little bit tricky with the hose in one hand and camera in the other.
  10. in just over 18 months of showing have never seen anyone not pick up after their dog. this is in SA though.
  11. I do on a hot, sunny day. Don't if its windy though.
  12. how old is she? how long did she take to learn to go through the door? Rommy took about and hour. The adult sheltie that came to stay took two days to learn to go through it - she had never come across one before. Rommy was so funny when I was teaching her. She kept running through it from side to side as if to say "c'mon it's easy!" The 14week old puppy who came to stay didnt take any time to learn it at all! Used it straight away. (Without having seen one before).
  13. my show trolley - two doors, not small (96cm wide, 76cm high) fits standing up in the back of my Honda Jazz (do not have to fold any seats down at all.) I secure it with straps using the secure brackets in the boot of the car. I can also then fit in the back with the trolley, a compact gazebo, two chairs, grooming bag, dog bag and bag for me. (On a warm day have also added a small esky and water container.) The dog/s then sit on the back seat (strapped in of course). When I was looking at a new car, had to be small car (couldn't afford anything bigger) - only one that would fit the trolley in it easily without having to drop seats etc. Best thing ever eta - oops - thanks obs - i forgot the pen i also fit in. also means I have room for passengers too.
  14. she may not chew everything in sight - but I wish i kept my bras out of her way.... ditto I also wish I had read "Before you get your puppy" before I got my puppy. Really worthwhile. Free download on internet - lots of different websites have it. Crate training - best thing ever.
  15. I put in a small dog door (same size as the small one you list) with my security door - my girl (a normal size sheltie - ie correct size according to the standard) fits through easily. I had a bigger sheltie come to stay for a while (but not a huge one) and she fit through the door easily as well. If you end up with a large sheltie - it would be tight. A sheltie that meets the breed standard is generally classified as a small dog (in terms of things like car harness, dog doors, stuff like that. I have seen a huge sheltie at our obedience club - gets mistaken for a small collie all the time - so there are a couple of really really large ones out there. At the same time, there are a couple of undersized shelties (one also at obedience) too - that were too small to show.
  16. they're all lovely photos but this one is mesmerising for me, those eyes....... they are the most amazing blue! my brother (her dad) had those blue eyes and long curly eyelashes - so wasted on a boy. Good to see a girl get them in the next generation. here she is in colour... (still practising with the lens)..
  17. so i've been practising a little bit and am getting slowly better... still a long way to go... improving... getting better... (adjusted the exposure in this one a little bit) even better... (still not there yet)
  18. getting better.... thanks for the tips everyone...
  19. What were the settings you were using at the time for the indoor shots? Snap - nice chrissy decoration!! Justice - love the roorooo one!! thanks for the tips Had a look at the settings ISO was 400 shutter speed 1/50 - but I had it in the auto program mode (not the full auto but the one where you can change focal points etc) will keep working on it.
  20. ok - so I took these - but I am having trouble with focus... this first one - ok cos outside... but I don't get why I am having trouble with focus on lots of my photos... These next two were taken about 5 seconds apart - so light conditions the same etc... Don't think the subjects were moving that much but one is good, one isn't Any tips or suggestions? I won't be leaving these photos up for longer than around 24 hours - so if any of you see these - would appreciate help eta - had to take the photos down - but thanks for all your tips and help. Had much more success yesterday. will post a couple
  21. Are you a Canon or Nikon person? I dont know about Nikon prices but you should be able to get a Canon 1.8 cheaper than that online and even retail. DWI: http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/...sp?idProduct=63 here's the 1.4 http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/...sp?idProduct=62 Cameras Direct: https://www.camerasdirect.com.au/index.php/....8-ii-lens.html although you still have to add postage on top. Beeb got one retail from JB hi fi for $120! I got mine from Ted's Camera House on 30th Dec for $129
  22. oo oo oo - so did I!!!! I am blaming this thread too. I was looking at the f1.4 but wondered whether for an amateur like me it was going to be worth the extra amount. When I found out that there weren't any in adelaide (well a second hand one at the photo wholesalers...) kinda made me lean toward the 1.8. I will need lessons I think. Am trying to manage the focal point thing. Took a few of my nieces today but don't like any of them. I would love some tips too - (canon eos users especially).
  23. oops - forgot to add - my three - all on a canon 450D. First with a 70-200mm lens, the other two on an 18-55mm
