  1. It is very easy to sit at a keyboard and think you know how you would act or what actions you would take, it is a whole new ball game when you are actually faced with the reality of a disaster. There but for the grace of god go each and every one of us.
  2. Don't assume that fleas are not the problem, many areas are experiencing a serious flea outbreak just now, it only takes a bite or two to set a lot of animals off. The fleas may be getting a chance to get a bite in before they are affected by whatever you are using.
  3. Murphy rocks He must have been a great little dog.
  4. Uhm maybe being able to live and function normally and healthily would be a bonus here too, but hey whatever floats your boat.
  5. If your dogs come inside the house then you have fleas in the house, same goes for the yard, unless you bomb, or spray you will not get rid of the eggs and larvae that will be in your house and yard. You need to treat house, yard and pets to fix it. Getting rid of a flea infestation is not easy, it is also not cheap. Simply using products that kill the adults will not work you need to use products with IGRs. Advantage sheds off the animals into the areas they frequent, it works well in some areas, Sentinel works well too on all stages of flea cycle, ask a local Vet what is working in your area.
  6. If your Vet signs off on the 3yr vaccine, then unless you are associated with a club that has wording to the effect that dogs need to be vaccinated annually there should be no problem. Most clubs simply ask for proof of vaccination.
  7. Curash has always worked for me, and I never clip the hair away. A couple of nasty ones have needed Betadine, but have been on rescues that have been left untreated, or on grooming clients that had no idea what was under the dogs hair. Creams don't allow the spot to dry out and in my experience slow down the healing. I wish I had kept photos of my GSD rescue she was possibly the worst case I have ever seen and is super sensitive to anything that irritates her, 3 or 4 applications of Betadine then the Curash and all was good.
  8. Fast growing large breed, depends on the food and the activity and metabolism of the dog, if that is all the dog gets then 6 cups could well be just fine, who knows when we have no knowledge of the dog and the food. I have had rescues here that would have easily eaten 6 cups plus RMB daily. Deep chested breed, feeding 3 smaller meals is a good idea too. I have had pups on 3 meals and other pups prefer only 2, in the end there is no right or wrong.
  9. Yes, certainly look like it, really pack the Curash on to them, you need them dry, they do look nasty and may have been brewing for a couple of days. If you have caught them quick enough the Curash will work. I find keeping them dry rather than applying creams etc is the best way. Betadine scrub then dry thoroughly and apply Curash.
  10. It needs an older but not elderly adult dog to put him in his place, pups need to learn how to interact with dogs and the best teachers are other dogs, not your friends elderly dog though.
  11. Sitting on the TV Antenna with the dogs wouldn't be cozy.
  12. Have seen photos of Singing Dogs with very black tongues, he also looks very typical of the asian type breeds, that include the dingo, singing dogs akita etc. Singing dogs have large carnassial teeth like the Dingo. They are an interesting breed, I am quite taken by their uniqueness and vocalising.
  13. Why would anyone risk travelling in these conditions?
  14. wjhy did you regret the GSD being clipped apart from klooking funny . their coat grows back I don't find any reason to clip off my GSD, my current girl has a big coat and she copes with QLD weather just fine, and I don't find her at all difficult to maintain. They look pretty hideous clipped IMO. Unless there was a health reason I can't see the point. I have had requests to clip Pugs, Labs, Fox T (smooths), ACDs, and I just don't get it I'm afraid.
  15. Keep all undercoat groomed out. Avoid anything that dog reacts to. Dry thoroughly during hot humid weather.
  16. Go to the top of the class....hands baton to Pap....
  17. The spelling gets me every time. Which breed is often known by its nickname "The American Gentleman" ?
  18. Woodbyne mention "Scourban" is that available from a Pet supplies or feed stock mechant? is it for livestock? Animals large and small.
  19. Dogs like Doug would not be born to suffer and be in need of homes if people used their brains.
  20. oh wow. poor thing. Its a GSP right? He looks like he's been in an accident? GSP X PUG apparently!! Great advert for hybrid vigor.
  21. I prefer using different blades rather than combs but you may find them ok just for 2 dogs. You do need to use a very close blade with them though as others have said and you will need to make sure the combs you buy fit properly onto the blades as it can be a bit of an "oh bugger" moment if they come off during use. The coat needs to be completely matt and tangle free to use them. I would go for the wahl stainless steel combs and they must be used with a #10, #15 or #30 blade.
