  1. There is always the possibility that he is creating the irritation from compulsive licking. Does he suffer separation anxiety or is he is anxious about anything?
  2. Sounds like it wasn't a physical problem then. Good news, maybe a very over anxious or excited pup?
  3. It may well have an ingredient that doesn't pass here for import.
  4. If you get a female pup and you do not have it desexed, then YES, it will have regular heat cycles and bleed, the cycles last for approx 3 weeks, every 6 months approx. All breeders set their prices differently, I have no idea what the current average price for a Miniature Dachshund is, you will need to check out the Dogzonline Breeders pages Breed Pages and see if you can find a Breeder near you. When selecting a puppy it is the Health and Temperament of the pup that you consider before the price, you will hopefully have this new puppy for many years to come, so you do your research and choose your breeder wisely.
  5. Flints oil is still available. Always handy in the medicine cupboard when you have horses.
  6. I use a Vet Chiro, who does accupuncture, wonderful results, both with dogs and horses. If the dog is in pain he may well snap at anyone who is treating him. Sorry you had a bad experience, but they are not all like that.
  7. It is still a very good idea to crate train, if you ever have to fly your dog, or they need to be hospitalised it is much easier on them if they are crate trained, motels etc will lso oftena ccept a crate trained dog. I also find travelling babies in a secure crate is a godsend if they happen to suffer from car sickness.
  8. The same owners who bleat about the caging would also be the first to sue the pants off you if something happened to their dog whilst in your care, safety and security come first IMO.
  9. Australian manufactured dog foods do not contain euthanased animals. The yanks can claim that all to themselves.
  10. Could well be a elongated soft palate issue, sounds pretty strange first time you hear it. Your Vet will be able to tell you. It quite often happens when they get excited.
  11. You will simply have to teach him to accept grooming then, or eventually accept the bare bum look. Spray the matts with conditioner spray, then work them out with your fingers or slice through them from the base out to divide them up then comb them out.
  12. Clip the hair away leaving a good margin, flush the open wound with peroxide. If the the dog has a temp it may need ABs but otherwise they generally heal fine.
  13. My thoughts too. Hope the pup recovers well, but I think it is a risk you take wherever dogs are allowed to run and together, it happens in backyards. If you put your dog in that situation you cop it on the chin I feel.
  14. Wow that was helpful! Do you live in a paralysis tick area Cavandra? Do you understand how many dogs die each year from these little suckers, one of the reasons is that owner compliance with the search your dog all over every day rule is very low, Vets do not like to see dogs die from ticks. Vets have to suggest methods of prevention that give the dogs some chance of avoiding this.

Whatever you decide to do with his diet do it SLOWLY, introduce new foods over time to allow his tummy to adjust, sudden changes can cause quite violent upsets in young pups. What brand of food is he currently eating?
  16. Watch the Mangos if you have your own tree, the seeds are a very common cause of intestinal blockage in Mango areas. Dogs love them, and apart from some runny poo if they over indulge the flesh is fine for them to eat, it is the seeds that are an issue. Pawpaw is fine too.
  17. Nothing is fail proof, but you could try Proplan Sensitive, most Vets can get this as the major Vet suppliers stock it. I have had great results with this it is salmon based. Maybe try adding some Omega oil to his food or a tin of sardines in oil a couple of times a week. I am sure everyone will come along and add their two cents worth, but in reality no one thing will work for all dogs.
  18. Not something to encourage that's for sure. If she doesn't pass them she will no doubt eventually need surgery to remove them. Rock eaters also tend to damage their teeth. Maybe confine her to a rock free area. She may well grow out of it if she has no access to them.
  19. Most dogs can easily digest the necks. Generally the chicken is from very young animals and the bone is easy for the dogs to digest. I have had lots of pups swallow them like that. Constipation from too many can be issue, but I haven't had any problems with them swallowing them.
  20. The problem is you may well further damage the immune system with the ivermectin, allowing the mites to flourish. The immune system can only handle these things if it is healthy.
  21. Is it possible the dog has had ear powder used to treat mites previously?
  22. Could he be feeling the cold more this winter. Maybe not enough calories to keep his weight on in the cold maybe?
