  1. oh my so adorable.. your making me want to convert to whippets!!!
  2. I think that sounds pretty awesome! Are they the same as the dogs that can sniff out the point of origin/cause of a fire? these are military dogs, I am unsure about that but their job is to detect any mines or bombs and alert the military troops, They are often dogs rescued from bad pasts, the military place alot of money in their rehabilitation and training. The dogs are trained to be the best they can be.
  3. explosive detection dogs are among those of very special jobs, it might not sound awesome, but these dogs are the heroes of our heroes and are treated as such.
  4. oh my god how sickening and selfless.. for an organization who claims they "help animals" they sure didn't do that here.. Money was more important than the welfare of this gorgeous animal.
  5. you do realise that supporting bsl means that the dobermann would also eventually be placed on the bsl list. It is already listed in some countries even though there is very few reported attacks by the breed. I dont support bsl because it can easily be abused and taken advantage of, it isn't a solution.
  6. lets put this dog breeding talk into human context. pitbulls are born aggressive - So a human child who is born from say a father who is a murderer and a mother who is extremely aggressive and abusive means the child will turn out to be an aggressive killer? you could claim a mother who births a child who's father was actually a rapist is giving life to another rapist. ridiculous.. forget the fact that in the breed standard for pitbulls aggression is not bred for. Every animal is an individual, while yes sometimes the breeding of two aggressive dogs CAN cause the young to inherit this behaviour, there will always be a case of two wrongs making a right, so two negative dogs will make a positive dog. I dont believe a species should be condemned because a few of that one species killed people.. It would be the equivalent of wiping out a country because a few of the people from that country were terrorists.
  7. yes it was edited in photoshop Its a simple program, I never took a course in it as I felt it was a pretty easy program to use, and anything you need to know can be found online in an array of tutorials, often more informative and convenient that what you may learn in a class. I could've done that shell, but for some reason I just decided to do it the hard way and erase it altogether then repair any hairs i may have removed.
  8. I would agree that you should've just let it out of the tub then leave it be, not follow around and cause it distress to the point it was striking. Its good it was relocated, but i really think you should have left it alone the second you released it, not follow it around and bother it more..
  9. I was not told of her passing until thursday, but our dearest family cat Sama (samantha) was placed into an eternal slumber on monday at the age of 22, her kidneys were beginning to fail and it was my dad who made the choice to let her sleep instead of allowing it to get to a stage she would suffer. Sama has been my families cat for many years, she was a female tortoise shell born in whyalla, we first met her naughtily playing with her brothers and sisters around my nan and pops house, my mum decided to adopt sama out of all the kittens. Tortoise shells back in 1987 weren't very common. She sported a beautiful coat in her younger days, but her gorgeous face was not to be misunderstood, she did have a temper and she would often hiss or scratch once she had had enough pats. When we moved to Adelaide she came with us, I remember her howling in the cardboard box she was kept in during the trip, she did not once shut up. And during our time in adelaide she got into a fight which we thought she was going to be blind in one eye, but lucky for her it was a surface scratch and she recovered well. And when we moved to mount isa when she was 5 she began to grow quite fond of me and would sit by my side when i sat in the grass to think, and would lay on my bed at night. at the age of 12 she was attacked with a slug gun, she recovered quickly and acted like nothing had happened. She was a very tough cat, and often showed up the dogs in the streets, no dog would dare try her, not even the rottweilers next door. As things changed, she stayed with my mum when my parents broke up, but her constant moving around mount isa did not phase her. She took it all in stride, then when mum passed away she lived back with my dad, unfortunately at the time I had my own two cats with me, and as much as i would have loved her with me, she did not like my cats one bit, and as she was the family cat she stayed with my sis, brother and dad instead. She spent the rest of her days at my dads, even when i last seen her at 19 she was sharp on sight and sound and the only thing which showed she was older was the thinning of her coat and the now once beautiful tortoise shell coat was a mix of greys and sepia browns. Only in these last few months of her life had she begun to lose her hearing, but for a cat who was fed home brand cat biscuits her entire life, I can honestly say she was a one in a million. Her death is sad, but I am happy that she had achieved such a long and healthy life, for this i am proud to have had such a cat like her. So to my Dearest Sama Forever cherished you will be, in our hearts and in our minds. Sleep well and never forget the memories you had when you were awake.
  10. i would say the rabbits being milked would receive the same treatment as premarin mares or lab rabbits where they are contained in a small space for easy extraction. I'm not sure what you are expecting them to do centitout but the rabbits being used for milking wouldn't be getting a paddock to roam.
  11. OMG HORAY YOU POSTED! *waves* your boy is so gorgeous, we should really meet up again for an art trip soon and take your boy out to help inspire us
  12. Doesn't involve dogs, but one day I decided to have a cup of tea and a doughnut (lady and the tramp style) and I took my first bite into my dunked doughnut and bit into something crunchy, I pull the crunchy thing out and it was a maggot! I almost threw up, threw the doughnut in the bin only to find a line of maggots on the wall, I almost died right there. So I followed the trail and they were coming from the cupboard, it turns out some sneaky moths had fun and we had maggot like larvae all over the place. We had to throw out all our food as they were in everything, sugar, cereal, they even got under the lids into peanut butter jars It took me 8 months to eat a doughnut again.
  13. I loved your boy so I gave it a shot for you
  14. I only started watching when the big dog agility was on so I didn't see that, while there was 2 other breeds in the agility and the dock diving had diff breeds, it was still quite a few collies, dont get me wrong they are great dogs, its just I guess I was hoping to see more breeds like dobermanns, rottweilers, mastiffs, staffies, German shepherds and even cattle dogs in this sport, So I was very sad when I didn't see any of these breeds in this show, the show was short so I guess that played a big factor of not seeing any.
  15. That's what I was thinking! lol, I was quite disappointed at the lack of other breeds, I was however very happy to see a toller in there. It would have been nice to have other breeds than just collies in most of those sports though, these sports are supposed to be for any dog but it felt like I was watching the world border collie games, not the world dog games. No offence to ppl who own them but it was even noted by my oh and his best friend who half way through went "and what breed is this OH WAIT! its ANOTHER border collie, seriously is that the only dog that can do these????" and those two don't really know much about dogs in the first place.
  16. Hey PF I heard that you also had some new unreleased special edition breeds. I found some leaked photos..
  17. Just when are you (and others) going to GET IT? A hairdressing salon is open for business to cut the hair of adult and junior humans - i.e., CHILDREN! Having children there to have their hair cut is how they make their money to open the doors and stay in business! THAT IS THEIR CORE BUSINESS AND CHILDREN HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE THERE IN SAFETY. A hairdressing salon is not the local DOGGY DAY CARE CENTRE - nor is it the DOGGY LUNCH ROOM! ;) (steam is now coming off this keyboard!) Souff edited for grammar yes because hairdressers are all about safety with their scissors, spiky objects, hot presses, crimpers, bleach etc.. Sorry but a child shouldnt be allowed to roam around a hairdressers period because it isnt a safe area.. What if the kid decided that cup of bleach next to an old lady getting her hair done might be yoghurt.. A person has every right to take their pets to work if they wish, its their workplace, possibly even their home, the same rights as a mother has to taking her own kids to work to her own business. Pets in the workplace has been a slowly growing fad as it lowers stress levels, many high end companies like google allow and promote people on bringing their pets to work (so long as they behave) to increase working abilities. There is no black and white in a business, you cant say something doesnt belong in the workplace just because you think it doesn't, there is actually a day celebrated overseas which is take your pet to work day in june annually.
  18. I agree ruthless has some brilliant photography
  19. Very nice, you have potential to become a great artist, and I look forward to seeing your progress . Now some constructive criticism 1- Use the smudge tool less, its a handy tool but you should not rely on it to make the furry effects. It is merely a support tool and should be used sparingly. Try to draw the fur yourself, it is time consuming but drawing the fur yourself with modified brushes or varying the flow and opacity can bring out much more desirable results that are not achievable with the smudge tool. 2- study the shadows while your shadows were almost spot on in placement they just lack colour. the lighting is still a little dark making the image a little flat, more yellow/white where the highlights are in the photos could have helped but it is all the learning process. The darks could have been darker in areas too, like near the eyes the eyebrows in the photo are near black. 3- Use more colours, painting animals isnt as easy as find the exact colour and draw, often one picture I draw can have over 200 different colours/tones to make it the way it looks, even with an oil painting I often mix hundreds of colours to make a painting look the way it does, sometimes there is purple on a yellow dog, green on a brown, while a brown dogs base colour may be brown, it is actually made up of reds, blues, greens, yellows, oranges, browns and purples. It sounds daunting and when i first did it, it seemed impossible to manage but now I can spend 30 mins on a picture and not realise I have just chosen 100 or more colours while drawing it, you lose track and you dont notice after a while. 4- practice makes perfect, buy yourself a sketch diary, draw and draw, draw everything and anything, draw the skull of a dog try to understand how the skin is attached to the bone, how muscles work, find an understanding of direction of fur growth and colours. All of the tiniest things you study often are the biggest things towards improving your abilities. I hope this helps
  20. thats sad, its cruel to leave an animal suffering just because you dont trust your vets, I would trust any vet more than I would trust myself, and if an animal is in need of medical help it is your responsibility and is the law that the animal is given the correct medical help it needs. The poor thing is sick, it should have been taken to the vet the second the symptoms were showing.. I am shocked by this and the other thread...
  21. thriving on a diet does not mean that its ideal.. I could thrive on eating only cabbage and fish, but it doesn't mean that its ideal for me..It might keep me alive and I might look okay, but internally my body would most likely be working alot less effectively than it would if i increased my food choices.
