Ideas On What To Do?
tdierikx replied to Just Andrea's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Agreed, I'm not sure that this wasn't some sicko getting his kicks. I think he is having you on;really why would anyone give such details over the phone knowing it is a crime. If he wanted to surrender a dog he could do so at any shelter he chose without saying anything. Not if it isn't his dog to surrender... T. -
Ideas On What To Do?

I'd leave well enough alone... you advised him to contact the RSPCA, and he said he would. Let him take it from there... T. -
So sleek and shiny... I think I may have a little crush on gorgeous Neko... have done from the moment you put her very first photo up when they were born... T.

Interesting that they could flush it under a local, but couldn't stitch it at the same time. Flushing is somewhat intrusive... Hopefully your regular vet who knows Ernie can stitch it under a local today... T.

Fruit bats currently can carry a number of zoonotic diseases... the scariest being Lyssavirus, a member of the Rabies family. Protocol for working with them includes getting Rabies vaccinations to reduce the effects if you get Lyssavirus. I think you also need to have had Hep B shots also, but that should be a given if working with any "exotic" type of animal. Possibly need Q fever shots as well... T.

I live in the corner that joins 3 different council areas in NSW... 3 different pounds to look for a lost dog, depending which street it was found in... and one of the council areas has a 2 dog recommended limit. My particular council does not have any limit advised, so as long as there are no noise or waste issues, I can have as many as I like. Some council areas will relax their limits if the dogs are also registered with Dogs NSW... but only to allow I think around 5dogs - and again if noise or waste issues arise, they can fine you a fair bit and ask you to reduce the numbers. There have been times I've actually wanted to suggest that to some prospective adopters... errr! T.

Friendly ones are great... *grin* T.

Funny that... I talk to all sorts of animals, and many of them are just as intent on listening... and in some cases talking back... lol! Biggest buzz is calling a Wedge Tail Eagle and having him come to the fence for a chat... I love my Spikey! The female Little Eagle in the cage next to him will now also come down for a chat, but she's more likely to be telling me off for chatting to Spike... err! T.

... and which one were you bribing with treats? *grin* T.

That cute little 8 week old bundle of fluff with the resource guarding issue is going to grow into a very large dog in virtually no time at all... either return him to the breeder, or invest in a reputable and thorough trainer to help you rectify the situation. There will not be an overnight fix, nor will it be cheap... T.

Generally, if a dog has been in foster care for any length of time, the carer will know most of that dog's quirks, triggers, etc... and will be in a better position for deciding what sort of home would suit that particular dog. If that does not necessarily gel for the prospective adopter who has never met the dog, and in many cases fallen in love with a well taken photo of said dog, then that is unfortunately just the way it goes... We'd all like to think we have the perfect home to offer any dog, but maybe, just maybe, the foster carer or rescue might just know the dog in question better than we do, and are only looking for the best possible outcome for that dog. There are of course those in rescue who are just downright deluded about what constitutes a "good" home for any dog... but that just goes with the territory... T.

with awful ears .... I was actually fixated on his gorgeous eyes... looking at his human with so much love and trust... who cares what his ears look like when he adores his human so much? T.

I still have the crutches I ended up with after a Labrador game of zoomies... BOTH dogs hit me - after dodging trees and a pole... *sigh* T. -
