  1. Awww.... Happy Birthday Ruby! I hope you got extras for din-dins today... T.
  2. I have one dog here who has completely refused to crate train - and when she broke her leg a while back, she actually destroyed a steel mesh crate and got loose. When she had to go to the vet for her desexing surgery, we advised of this fact and they accommodated her just fine. My other 2 dogs and all of my fosters are crate trained, and none have had any issues. T.
  3. Hahahaha! There's "my" little man! Thanks heaps for the update FM... T.
  4. Definitely get a second opinion from a specialist... T.
  5. No wonder BJ's ears took so long to pop up... they are huge compared to Izzy's... lol! Absolutely stunning pups Frodo's Mum... and they look so cheeky too... T.
  6. Thanks Tess32 -I'll have a play... T.
  7. In the general scheme of things, I believe that owners of dogs should be allowed the discretion whether/when to desex their pets or not... however... I also believe that pounds should be setting the best example by desexing all animals adopted out from them. T.
  8. Pity they want dogs between 8 months and 2 years old (from the website blurb) - I have a 4 month old BT/Staffy here that has the sweetest nature and isn't crazy like most pups his age... T.
  9. Just ignore the "precious" ones... the lady that let you interact with her dog is more likely to be the one you might want a pup from in future as she obviously socialises her dogs well... I can probably see some people with a coated breed that has taken ages to get "just right" may not want you ruffling through their fur, but if you've asked and been given permission to cuddle a dog, go for it! Some dogs can get a little narked at all the attention at shows like the Royal sometimes too, and if that's the case, then the dog will probably back away from yet another pat... not come across many of those yet though - especially if you are gentle about it and talk gently to the dog. T.
  10. Lion shot is good...I have a VERY similar one actually! I think it's a different Lion though. Good capture with the giraffe, also is a bit underexposed so needs some levels adjustments. Seeing as I have absolutely no idea about and haven't ever done any post processing apart from letting Easy Thumbnails do some auto sharpening when resizing images for the web - the latest Zoo pics haven't had any post processing at all - how would I go about making photos like my giraffe better? I only have PaintShop Pro 9 and limited funds barring me from purchasing anything better at the moment... but could probably find a not quite legal copy of other software if needed... errr! T.
  11. You can critique any of my photos any time you like Tess32... any pointers are good pointers IMHO... T.
  12. From my last visit to Taronga Zoo... T.
  13. One of the Blacktown councillors is a vet... is he for or against the idea? If he is "for" it, maybe he could be persuaded to do some of the work at a discount rate through his clinic? T.
  14. Thanks! We think so too. We get so many compliments/comments on her little black eyes, we absolutely love her facial markings. Well, these were the best photos I could find/get--turns out it's hard to get puppies to do what you want in pictures :p. I'll happily accept if you all think she is in fact crossed with corgi, I was just so surprised everyone saw no Aussie shepherd when heaps of the pictures I found of crosses had very similar markings. It's true some could have been wrong themselves, but I did fine some sites that specifically were breeding for ACD X Aussie as a working dog. From the side on shots, I think her legs are too long and her colouring is not totally indicative of Corgi in the mix. Seeing the overall package leads me to think she is an ACD/Koolie mix... the eyes, ears, and colouring are my clues... T.
  15. Try some peppermint oil on her collar for the car sickness - only need a couple of drops... T.
  16. Have you got a side on standing photo of Loki so we can get an indication of her size and structure? She definitely has the most adorable face... *grin* T.
  17. Could be BC/Kelpie too... I've seen some heavy set BC's around. I'm not seeing Rotti apart from the colouring, but everything else suggests not Rotti. I think he's actually one of those very rare and highly sought after "Cuddlehounds" myself... I'm loving his name... Hamilton definitely suits him! T.
  18. It's not irresponsible breeding that causes the numbers of animals in pounds... it's irresponsible ownership... I'm of the opinion that there is room in this world for all types of dogs, pure or crossbred. I've owned pure dogs and crosses - never loved any of them less because of their lineage - and I would like the right to choose when or if I will desex them thank you. Why do we have to legislate to the lowest denominator? It is beyond sad... T.
  19. Ummm... why are my eyes leaking? T.
  20. They only want dogs who are deaf or blind, or both... that rules out my naughty Pickles who "only" has mobility issues... *grin* T.
  21. I stand still but have my balance ready to swing a very hard kick to the head or chest if the dog thinks it's going to do more than just check me out. Never step backwards from a dog that is coming at you - if anything step towards the dog as that will put you more in control balance-wise if the dog has intent. T.
  22. Well - the little buggers are smart and cunning like Dingoes. They managed to pull all the sides of their pen in today and a couple of them then worked out that they can climb over the top if the corners are just right... and they are only about 7 weeks old!! Luckily they are contained in the granny flat... it just meant more picking up of poops outside the pen for me... *sigh* They are still pretty quiet little pups. Only Scout will bark, and it's not the usual puppy style yips and squeaks - she gets such a serious look on her face when she does it too, like "hey, I'm down here, and want picking up and cuddling please!" - cheeky sod! The others will whinge and grizzle if they want to be where I am and they can't get to me, but only Scout has the bark as yet. Tarquin tries to pull the screen door off if I'm on the other side of it, and he's a lot stronger than he looks. Fable is the most adventurous of the lot - she will go and check things out on her own happily. She also does the best zoomies. Nathaniel, Tarquin, and Scout are the smoochy ones - and they let you know in no uncertain terms that it's their turn for a cuddle by either all piling onto your lap at once, or hanging around your feet occasionally jumping up and letting you know they are there. Tarquin has the waggiest tail. Theodore is the quietest one and a little timid at first, but once he realises you are the cuddle giver, he warms up to you heaps. T. All of them give great kisses...
  23. We've just got a lovely little ACD cross girl in from one of the pounds - she has shortish legs and is kinda large (read Cardigan) Corgi sized. White with tan spots, and gorgeous blue eyes. She's somewhere between 6-12 months old and gets on great with other dogs of all sizes. We can test her with a couple of sheep, but don't have any chooks to test her with. She has an adorable nature and loves her cuddles. We don't know how she wasn't adopted by anyone straight from the pound - she is a dream dog! We have tentatively named her Sweet Pea... *grin* She will be available for rehoming in a couple of weeks or so. T.
  24. I'd be getting a cat trap and taking any roaming cat to the pound if it was known to "invade" my yard regularly. Let the owners find it at the pound and pay costs a few times... T.
