  1. 1.do you brush your dogs teeth? if you do..... Nope, never have and I have yet to have dental problems. They all get bones and various other kinds of raw meat/tendons/offal, that keep them looking fantastic.
  2. He may have to be put under anaesthesia or heavy sedation for the x-ray to be done - putting dogs under GA/sedation is not something the vet will do lightly. Zero has hip problems and our vet has told me to explore other options before having him xrayed because last time he was put under, he took a long time to come around. Your vet may be concerned about putting a sick dog under sedation if there are other options. If in doubt, call your vet and ask. Lestat is the same (Zero's brother from another mother ). Last time I had him under he had everyone worried for awhile (didn't help that I was in the room to helping the nurse!) The vet at the time suggested that I avoid putting him under again unless I absolutly have to. Took him a very long time to come around again.
  3. I hired it a few weeks ago, such a sweet story, I loved it
  4. Thats no good toughgirl. No advice from me, just hope Simba is feeling better soon
  5. See now this bothers me too, what if a spat escalates while you are gone and there is no one there to sort it out? Personally I would either take them with me or not go. I have been camping with four dogs at a time, one wasnt even mine but everyone was fine and aside from getting soaked we had a good time.
  6. Oh dear what happened? Petstore (i hate having to admit that), severe hip dysplasia (couldnt even walk at 6 months, thought we would have to put him down), temprement issues, fear aggression, hates children (thankfully getting much better with that) can be aggressive towards certain other people, on going stomach issues........ Just turned out badly really. Dont get me wrong he is a beautiful dog and with all the work and money we have put into him he is a lovely member of our family but it has been hard and I regret not going to a Reg breeder as he really has turned me off the breed.
  7. I crashed and burned with my Lab Live and learn
  8. I will be there on the 2nd with the Sammies

Good news about Simba! Sashas blend isnt bad stuff at all, I tried it once and Lestat wanted to roll in it rather then eat it (smells very fishy) but there are other people I know who use it and swear by it.
  12. Me, hard to say I do a lot of things, at the moment it's Healthcare Lestat, food critic Mistral, professionally goodlooking, another for the Zoolander crew Alchemy, a nurse who is training to be an olympic sprinter

Expecting Mumma (and past mumma) is doing well. She's full of life, still very active and has a sparkle in her eye. She enjoys her belly being rubbed with nursery rimes sung to her! I love that girl, such a character Even with the small elephants she gave birth to last time she was bouncing around wanting all the cuddles for her, stuff giving the pups attention

Icemist, how is mumma these days anyway? Kelza, oh he is so cute!
  15. I have to be fit now! Damn . . . . . . . I never noticed I was so out of shape while showing my boy. His gait is a medium speed and he never really pushed me. Then I got my girl in the ring She powers ahead like her father and I am stuck trying to keep up with her. And after running her, her father and two sibes then back in for group I nearly died I have started walking more and made a change to what I eat, don't know how much its helped so far but its better then nothing.
  16. Funny this has come up as I am in the process of making my own website, handy tips for me here What I Hate *Sparkles, music or anything moving, hard to see and it hurts my head *Out dated web sites, now I understand that everyone is busy but it dosn't take that long to put up a new photo of the dog or keep the litter notices current, I am not interested in what a dog is like at 8 weeks if I can't see the adult version too 4 years down the track! *Sites that take forever to load due to the huge amount of crap that a breeder has dumped on, (this often goes back to sparkles). I am on broadband and even I have issues with some of them so I get bored waiting around and leave. *No pedigree's listed for the dogs, I am after something, lines that work well with my dogs, lines I like. I don't care if the dog is three times world champion if I can't see the pedigree and get an idea of what is behind the animal in question. * Tiny photos I have to squint to see, take something nice, this is you and your kennel on display, make it look good! It dosn't have to be the worlds best photo, I just want to be able to see it. What I Like *Neat, tidy and clear to read. *Information about the breeder themselves, how long they have been in the breed ect... *Clear profiles for the dogs, pedigree, health tests and scores, height (if there is a height standard), age, pet name and a little personal info about the dog itself * Current litter notices and information on if and when they are breeding next *Advice on the breed itself, what kind of home is good, how much work is required for things like grooming, exercise and training *A section on grooming if it's a coated dog *Standard *And photos of dogs they have bred in their new homes if possible, I would love to be able to see what a particular breeding has thrown before. I think thats about it
  17. Why not? If the issue is lack of recall, why not work on that? Recall or not, my dogs would not be offlead if I wasn't with them. They'd be penned. +1 If I go camping my dogs are either crated or on lead the whole time, the boys have good recall too but it's a strange area and i have no idea what could be around there.
  18. I think we do it because it makes them happy and it makes me happy to see them enjoying themselves. My breed is very social and I dont think it would be fair to them to deny playing. It teaches them how to interact with other dogs, its fantastic exercise and it tires them out. I dont allow them to socalise with just anyone however, only dogs I know I can trust and they dont go to dog parks.
  19. No idea but it did happen to my OH once. We were at a show and he was holding one of the Samoyeds, my boys father, Storm. I was watching the two of them and saw Storm look up at my OH, who was watching the ring, and look at his leg. Storm looks up again and slowly lifts his leg and pees on him I thought it was a crack up, my OH wasn't so amused
  20. Good on you for being willing to try Alison And good luck As for the food, she might just be in a fussy mood, take it away and offer it again later, she wont starve herself
  21. _______________________ It is just a normal harness. The harness seems to work the best. We tried the choker and the poor thing ended up vomiting. The halti was a huge failure. So, you recommend a no pull harness? It just gets very frustrating. I went to a pet store on the weekend, and I didn't see anything about a "no pull harness". I spoke with another owner of a husky/malamute and she told me that the halti works great. It is very disappointing when you can't take your dog on a walk when she mucks up. I own and exhibit arctic breeds and although I don't have Mal's or Sibes I have had a lot to do with them and no one I know uses a harness be it no pull or otherwise. Flat collars, martingales and check chains have been the most common. With the chain have you actually been shown how to use this? The most common problem people have is not the tools but not being aware of how they work. EDT, a martingal is similar to a check chain but softer. Ok, so she knows the basic, what do you do when she jumps or pulls?
  22. __________ Thank you. I thought Alaskan Malamutes x with Siberian Husky were called Alusky? Maybe I just made that up haha. No, not called an Alusky, they are what they are, a X breed Sounds like you have a real cracker there! I second what the others have said, training and obediance clubs! I would never recomend a harness for a sledding mix dog, that's going to start all kinds of problems. Have you ever tried a flat or martingale collar? Also what other kind of training do you do with her? Personally I wouldn't be letting her step one foot out that door until she had settled down. If I had to stand there for an hour with a loony dog bouncing around so be it. EDT, just noticed how long you walk her for. You MUST walk her more often! A X breed like yours will never be happy just hanging around in the backyard. If you don't have a lot of time in the evening try half an hour in the morning and night.

The others have pretty much covered everything I was thinking in regards to Simba and hip scores (did remind me to book Mistral in to have his done though....) and living with a Lab who has severe hip dysplasia I know how it feels. Swimming is the best, I can't reccomend this enough and offcause keeping the dog very lean to keep stress off the hips is important. Along with a good diet and regular low impact exercise. Lestat my Lab couldn't even walk when he hit 6 months, we were really worried that we would have to get him put down but thanks to a wonderful vet and a lot of rehab work my boy has just hit his 5th birthday and you wouldn't know he even really had a problem now (well, unless you know what your looking for ). He is still very stiff in the mornings but manages to run around like mad with the other dogs just fine. Goodluck to you and your boy
  24. Personally if I found out a dog I bred was in that situation I would like to know.
