I don't know that zero is unrealistic but it dosn't happen all that often. At this stage I would be going for as low as possible. As for the dog being imported it is possible the scoring system is different in Canada, but the breeder should be able to talk you through it. EDT, having a brain dead moment

I believe 16.5 is the breed average now. This is the total score of both hips. The bitch you spoke of would have a score of 5, so thats pretty good. As for the dog, did you get the actual score or did the breeder just say good? If it were me I would be wanting to see those scores!
  3. You're not being selfish. I have had rescue dogs in the past, in fact many of my dogs up until now have been rescues. But now that I have my own breeding plans it makes it much harder to take on a rescue when the alloted number of dogs I am allowed has already been taken. I feel we make up for it by having rescue kitties, horses and weirdly enough rats and chickens. There are times when I would like to get a small rescue dog and one day I might (if I can convince the OH), just not right now.
  4. I think its all of the above but I suspect they would rely on scent the most
  5. +1 If you clicked with breeder 2 there is no harm in at least going down and meeting the pup, if pup is perfect then great! If not you can always wait for breeder 1 to have a litter
  6. My MIL got a fold out table from bunnings that could hold two full grown Newfs. If you like I can find out what kind and how much it was
  7. It could have been a wooly (long coated) Malamute A big coat can make a dog look much larger then it actually is. Google search wooly alaskan malamutes (I tried to get a pic up but the work computer isn't playing the game)

Awwww how sweet, I havnt seen Barney in ages! He looks really good and Pudding in very cute
  11. Its hard when you see such tiny, helpless little pups but I would never ever do it again, its just not worth it. Find a petstore that dosnt sell animals, it will be easier on you.
  12. Oberon is very hansom I will admit I have a serious soft spot of Borzoi, such stunning dogs.
  13. Thanks very much! I live in Epping, if anyone wants to suggest a show training place. Is Brush one in Eastwood a training class? I might ask and see if I can get my little sammy into it. Unfortunately, for my sammy, I got her in Perth. My chow is from NZ. I hope I can make some show friends.... You should come and join us in the spitz thread, many of us are showies and there are quite a few in Sydney who I am sure would be more then happy to have you come and say hi. Everyone there is very nice and extremely helpful http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=137956
  14. Cute Chow The first thing you will need to do it become a member of Dogs NSW and get the pup on full papers. I assume that your breeder has told you that however. The best thing you could do to get a feel for showing is take your Chow to show training classes, that way you and he will know what you are doing and believe me there is a lot more to showing them just running around a ring (I found that out the hard way ) if you let us know what area you are in someone might be able to suggest a class near you. If there arnt any classes near by are you close enough to your breeder that you and the pup could go around and maybe get a few tips. Of and with your Samoyed girl I believe you can still get her changed to full registration if she still entire and is under two (you might want to double check that one but I think i am right, someone else might be able to give you a better idea) and the breeder agrees to sign the correct forms in order to get it done. As for looking in the mouths the judge does this to make sure the dog has a correct bite.
  15. She sounds like a happy, well adjusted little dog. Could just be this is who she is. My two are different. Mistral is obsessive about cuddles, he follows me everywhere, has to bed on my lap. I actually find it annoying sometimes. Alchemy is totally different. She is happy for cuddles on her terms but otherwise does her own thing (bless her, she gives me breathing space!) In Samoyeds you will often find the dogs are more snuggly and people crazy then the girls. I don't know if its the same in Lappies but it wouldn't surprise me if it was. If you are ever in dire need of a cuddle I will send Mistral up to you, you will be sick of it by the end of the week
  16. OMG she was so cute! Its amazing the change in her from when I first met her to a few weekends ago, such a difference!
  17. Lestat was the easiest puppy I have ever had! (Hard to believe of a Lab I know) He sorted himself out right away, didn't destroy anything, never barked, he was always calm.....wonderful pup! Mistral was a bit of a devil (still is actually at 2 years old), he ate everything, destroyed heaps of things, and took quite a long time to toilet train. He was a very fussy eater and liked being up all night long. Alchemy is still a puppy and is so good! She took a little while to toilet train but otherwise is very well behaved. I like parts of the puppy stage and there are others I could live without After Alchemy I am willing to wait a little while for our next pup though, I need a little bit of a break!
  18. My Lab is over 5 now, surely he is about as matured now as he will ever be?
  19. Those are some very nice Labs PF Here is another of Lestat, it shows him off a bit better
  20. My Lab is lean and although he needs to be that way due to bad hips, I believe he looks better this way too. I dont think Labs need extra weight on them, even a little. Most are pets and its very unlikely that they will be jumping into icy water any time soon.
  21. Thanks Centitout I will have a look into that
  22. As the title states I have a girl here, almost 11 months old who has just come off her first season that seemed to go pretty much perfectly normal. Anyway her season ended about two weeks ago and I am starting to get a little worried about how she is acting and the first thing that has popped into my head is pyo. She is eating, drinking, toileting all normally, there is no excess urination and no vomiting, she is playing but not as much as usual and happy enough, she just seems a little off to me. Sleeping a little more then normal and more sookie then before. There is no discharge, no swelling in the abdomen, cant check her temp as I lost the thermometer (sending OH is to grab me another when the stores open). My OH is convinced she is just tired from the last two weekends showing, which I will admit have been busy but she has never shown this kind of behaviour before. Someone has told me she has just become quiter since her season She saw her father and brother two days ago and both were acting like she is still in season and yet my boys here are showing no interest in her at all? I am going to get her into the vet asap I just wanted to see if anyone can come up with anything else it could be, I have been known to worry about nothing before Thanks
  23. All the dogs are mine My poor OH gets very upset about the whole thing.
  24. Im not allowed to forget I get poked, wooed at, barked at, walked to the kitchen and thats not even the Lab!
