  1. My translation is: Kreepy had a sore foot, the vet told you it was dermatitis and asked why couldn't you see that it is red and raw, and this annoyed you because it looks black to you. Vet wanted to cut the foot open but you said no because you couldn't afford it, and you later found a burr stuck under one nail, and assume that this is in fact cause of sore foot and are now going to tell off the vet. Am I understanding? Why on earth would the vet want to cut the foot open even if it is dermatitis? That doesn't sound right to me!
  2. Beautiful. A little moment of peace. Hope you are ok x
  3. OMG sorry, I mean Micha not Mishka (haha I know a HUMAN GIRL named Mishka, ooops.) Yeah I am used to seeing smaller leaner Sibes round these parts, perhaps I just keep seeing a lot from the same lines.
  4. Awww really? Mine was a total sweetie! Didn't get walked the whole time she was on heat and never seemed restless or bored, didn't make much of a mess and cleaned herself well, was just a even cuddlier, even lazier version of her normal self I guess they're all vastly different, hehe x
  5. I guess so, your Mishka and Shell's Zero are both quite stocky Sibes, aren't they! Maybe they just put the cutest cuddliest looking Sibes in the movies rather than ones that actually looked like sled dogs
  6. Really? Ok I'm back to being confused again then - they were just so much more stocky than the Sibes I'm used to seeing, and not much smaller than the Mals. Oh I meant, you put a harness on Saki and hang on to the end and she will just pull you. Around the house, around the yard. (Much fun to be had when sitting in a wheely chair or on rollerskates ) More just to pull than actually to go anywhere. So quite different to when she pulls on lead because she wants to run around and sniff everything, if that makes sense.
  7. Ohhhhhhhh are "Alaskan Huskies" what they use in movies like Snow Dogs and Eight Below? I couldn't understand why in the "making of" bit they would refer to what were clearly Mals as Mals, but then refer to all the other dogs as Huskies - even though they were far too solid to be Sibes, and looked so much like Sibe Mal crosses? *lightbulb moment* hehe PS Feelgood theory makes more sense to me than prey drive theory. I know as an Akita, Saki isn't a perfect example of a sledding dog - but FWIW she will pull for the fun of it, nothing to do with prey.
  8. Bitches can be a bit more cuddly, wussy, quiet and affectionate when in heat. It's not all bad x
  9. I'm sure with sledding Sibes and Mals a large part is training and a large part is running with the pack... But there does seem to be something more to it than that. Put a body harness (as opposed to a flat collar and lead or halter / head harness) on my girl and she'll suddenly start pulling you with all her might - not to get away or get off lead or be ahead of you, she just wants to pull you along and seems to really enjoy it
  10. Ooops just realised the original photo was of off-leash dogs! Funny, I see situations just like that photo at the dog beach all the time - one person will be running or striding purposefully down the beach and a dog will follow them, and then five other dogs will follow them, and suddenly some random person finds themselves to be the pied piper of the dog beach When Saki's at the off leash beach I allow her to run, I don't expect her to walk right next to or behind me. She always circles back to me, and if I stop walking she'll hang around me unless I encourage her to go running again. And if I say "this way" or "come" she comes running back to me. I'm the leader as she does what I tell her to, and if I don't tell her anything she'll check back in with me. That's good enough for me x
  11. Agreed, there are so many other factors as to how a dog walks on lead - as long as they still let you direct the pace, the direction, tell them when to stop or sit or wait, then you are still the boss IMO.
  12. NP, if the rash is stinky too I wouldn't be surprised if its the same thing! Hope she improves soon x
  13. My previous dog Kia was allergic to the protein in red meat. So she couldn't have beef, lamb, roo or any red meat whatsoever her whole life. She could only have chicken. She was diagnosed with the allergy as a pup, symptoms were extremely itchy red skin, little red lumps all over her belly and the most terrible smell. However once on a no red meat diet she did really well and it cleared it up 95%. Don't think it's all that common but it's not unheard of, either x
  14. My OH's male dog pees on everything all the time, ugh, makes me glad mine's a girl!
  15. Pups / bitches with recessed or inverted vulvas do go through stages of needing to be cleaned with antibacterial wipes. It is possible that for the above of for some other reason she is getting urine on herself, this causes the area to become sore and smelly. Otherwise could be a UTI or related infection; or vaginal dermatitis. Hopefully you've got a good vet who will let you know ;) x
  16. Oh dear....... Reading back through this thread you don't know whether to laugh or cry!!! Sydking, if you're still living at home and your parents weren't thrilled with the idea of you getting a dog, you'll get a few people on DOL pointing out that it perhaps wasn't the best time to be getting a dog - even once you move out of home you'll have all the hassles of rental living with a dog and so on and so forth. Also if you weren't already savvy with the registration and legislation involved with owning a Pitty, perhaps they weren't the best breed to choose, and you'll have people pointing this out to you a lot too. However given you already have the dog now, that sort of commentry is too little too late. Whether you register the dog as an APBT and keep it muzzled and contained; or whether you try to fly under the radar and register it is an AmStaff, you'll have trials an tribulations and disapproving people either way. However DOL is a great place to learn about training, socialisation, etc that are vital for any puppy, and even more so for a dog that will be under greater scrutiny than other breeds. I encourage you to stay to learn more about these things in the non BSL threads.
  17. LOL I want to see more cunning plans devised with the tools supplied!!! & then I shall buy said contraption from Luke to use on Saki, who is big enough to counter surf without needing any access ramps The only thing I can come up with is to leave the chicken breast on the bench as the dogs won't bother going for human food when there's a raw chicken breast on offer... Or grab a bed sheet and the hooks and make a hammock hanging over the kitchen bench, from which you can drink the beer and push the dog off the counter every time it jumps on... Or roll the giant ball of bluetac for the dog to chase, which it will then try to pick up, find its jaws and all its teeth firmly implanted into said ball and will be unable to use said evil teeth to devour stolen treats from said bench counter, negating all and any need for said dog to climb on said kitchen bench as said in the first place. Said. Yep *nods*
  18. Have you explored the yard with your pup so she's become familiar with it, before leaving her out there by herself?
  19. Woot go Zero, good doggy! & go Shell for doing so well with him  Very cool indeed x
  20. A deck of cards you say? My friend's OH ended up on the back end of a bus! He's not even a model. Eh wha??? Your friend's OH's photo got stolen by some brand that puts ads on the backs of buses? What was it??? & how on earth did he have an image of high enough resolution to be blown up that large online in the first place? Geez!
  21. Ooh ooh what what is this "something"??? I bloody hate these online image databases that just steal all images regardless of copyright And the "artists" who source their "stock" from them... That's how I ended up on a deck of cards, a series of stickers and god knows what else that is turning a nice profit, none of which goes to me... Argh! I always think, if you think of the instances your image has been used that you know about... Think how many other instances there must be that you don't know about
  22. What a perfect doggy playground you have x
  23. Isn't an Epipen just adrenalin - to keep the heart going in case of anaphylaxis until the ambulance can come and give antihistimine injections? Wouldn't it be better to just get the antihistimine injection straight off instead? Never did understand that :D
