  1. I hear ya, Amy! Once Millie learns to take proper direction, I am going to have a haaaard time keeping up with her! She was out the end of the chute before I knew it so I was struggling to get my next move in! I loved how she didn't want to go in the chute until I brought out the i-squeak as reward, then she thought it was so much fun that she tried to run through it the wrong way on her return to me and then took herself through it again, i-squeak in mouth! I'm not worried at this stage if she takes herself off like that (I wasn't trying to call her off it for a start so it's not like she ignored me), and I would rather her find it fun and non-scary than struggle to even get her through it Millie's contacts are coming along really well! So that should help with my issue of trying to keep up with her if I can get her to stop on all contact equipment! And Ruby found her confidence again and was going over the dogwalk She's still a bit weary, doesn't charge over it like superwoman like Millie does, but I couldn't be happier with the progress!!
  2. That's what I'm thinking. Probably different Hopefully someone who is good with technology might tape the segment for us and put it on youtube.
  3. I dont think I will do this, we are taught in tracking that even if you use car air fresheners it can put your dog off smelling properly for days so I can just imagine what the alcohol would do to their nose. I don't know much but I too wouldn't use this method, as I'd be worried about trying to fade the scent on all the other ones. How will they go from others being strongly scented to no scent. Seems like there would be an extra step in the training process doing it this way Happy to be proved wrong as my experience with dog training is fairly limited!! Fair enough, like I said I've never trained scent myself yet so I don't know what works and what wouldn't! I can understand not wanting to use something like alcohol, but I wonder if there's something less pungent that could still be used to help make it more black & white about the scent for him??? He's obviously not using his nose to find the right one, he's just retrieving an item?? Or work on getting him seeking out one cloth if it's hidden, so he uses his nose to find it? Hmm, dunno! I'd be inclined to scent the one they are looking for with something tasty if they are having trouble, and gradually fade it once they are catching on. What worked with Millie, was I placed a scented article under a magazine on the floor, and a magazine with nothing under it, and sent her to get it. Because it was under one of the magazines, I found she would sniff it out. Then I added an unscented one under the other magazine (mixed it up which mag had which article) and she was still sniffing it out. It looked like she cottoned on right away, so to test her, I removed the magazines and she was still getting the right one. I added more unscented articles and she continued to sniff them and bring back the right one. I didn't have luck like this with Ruby, she wasn't a sniffer like Millie. I rarely practice scent so neither are far from reliable But they do understand the game, so I am sure if I practiced more often they'd be more reliable! They both have a lot of trouble picking the metal up off the floor, though.
  4. I'm more shocked because I've been waiting 3 months for them to restock the tunnels so I could buy one and yours has been sitting there doing nothing the entire time Shocked, peeved, same diff

  6. Funny, I want mine to practice rear crosses with too She nailed her rear crosses on a jump the other night, but doing it with a tunnel, she can't grasp I am now on the other side and kept spinning in the other direction Speaking of agility, my dogwalk phobic dog managed to go all the way across the dogwalk the other night, wahoo!! A-Frames are no problem, and so far she's loving the baby see-saw
  7. What a waste! Amy and I both bought one, lets see if we actually use them Amy!!
  8. Yeah, she's with two other dogs too...but then again, my husband thinks it was just because she just got desexed at that time...I'm currently looking at one of the recommendation here , www.kathysdogtraining.com.au ...see how it goes ..but my problem with personal trainer is...she really doesn't have a problem when she's the only dog ...it all starts when she sees other dogs :D ...she's nice to other people too. Kathy has a "Reactive Rover" class, maybe that is something to look into as it sounds like it's a class and not a one on one thing for dogs who are reactive around other dogs Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, I'm sure!
  9. Here here! Not a thing to be embarrassed about, you did a good thing and trying to do the best thing for your dog! Admittedly I got lucky with my rescue, she's been a breeze to train, BUT, she's the devil child when trying to get into the car at training!!! The term "psycho" springs to mind I'm in Perth, too, can I ask what club you are attending? Some one on one sessions sound like they would be most beneficial. Kathy Kopellis McLeod comes highly recommended by many. www.kathysdogtraining.com.au Good luck!!
  10. OK - something different - go and get 4 or 5 cans out of the pantry and stand them upright 20cm or so apart. Place a scent article somewhere amongst the cans and send him to find it. Then add another article in am ongst the cans and let us know what happens. If FHRP has success with this method then I think you're onto a real winner here! Because after weeks and weeks of Ruby just not getting it, I brought out the cans and hey presto, we had a scent discrimination!
  11. She needs to give the fella up obviously, and just live with the dogs SHE wants! What a jerk
  12. So glad to hear Lincoln is doing well!! And happy birthday Toby! Wow I thought he was older than 2 for some reason!
  13. Hee! Thanks. I wanted to buy more than one but: (1) I only have one puppy; and (2) he can only wear one tag at a time so it would be extravagant to buy more than one :p Naaaaah, I don't see that logic, sorry! I have 4 slip leads for 2 dogs and am STILL tempted to buy 2 more from CleanRun just because they have free shipping :p
  14. Of course they do! :D What are you going to get? ;) I don't know The ones I have had my heart set on for ages are going to cost like $120 for the 2 of them including postage. A bit steep for my bank account!
  15. That's exactly right, I wanted pretty bling to make them look spiffy I don't really care about the information, as my dogs rarely wear their name tag anyway! (Bad mummy!) Nice choice!
  16. I'm going to need new collars (and of COURSE matching leads!) to go with the new name tags
  17. Found the etsy shop in case anyone is interested: http://www.etsy.com/shop/UrbanPuppy
  18. Ta Bonnie! But I want something with pizazz ;)
  19. Beautiful! I had a look at etsy before and saw some nice ones like these, but these ones are magnificent! they might be the same one! I emailed because 1000markets won't ship outside US and the tag maker (Nancy) directed me towards her etsy site which DOES ship to Australia. I can't wait until our tag arrives - they look so beautiful! I just emailed the seller to ask if they ship to Australia! Doh! Do you have her etsy shop address? I am quite interested in purchasing these ones: http://www.1000markets.com/users/wwwurbanp...products/332631

  21. One day you'll see the light and get a Utility Gundog Yes, titles can be earned UG & UGX I believe. I don't think any dog has yet Sorry, love my Labradors too much!! Though is an English Setter a Utility Gundog? Because I would love one of them Nope, Setter aren't Utility Gundogs. Vizslas, GSPs, Weimaraners, Brittanys, Spinoni, Bracco, WH Vizslas, GWPs, Munsterlanders all are... I'm sure I've missed some I started with a Labrador and still like them, but I doubt I'll ever go back. I did quite like the working English Setters at the Field trial I was at on the weekend though.... Damn, will just have to stick to my Labs then My old faithfuls

  23. Are Utility Gundog Working Tests different to GWT? I don't think I've seen any GWT here in Perth, I'd love to see one and perhaps do one. Yes, very different. They are for the Utility Gundog breeds only and tests all 5 aspects of the Utility Gundogs - conformation, obedience, retrieving, hunting (and pointing) and tracking/trailing (of game, not people). Unlike a GWT which tests a bit of obedience and a basic retrieve. Thanks Sounds like a nice test! Shame I don't own a utility gundog :D Do you "earn" anything for it?
