Sled Dog Racing Season Starting..

go Elsie rah! rah! rah! :cheer: -
that's fine, I misunderstood and thought you wanted to promote it to get more people interested.

What about if you start a facebook page calling for expressions of interest in forming a club, just as you've done here, start spreading the word. Form your core committee and take it from there. When we started our club we didn't use the internet, (apart from DOL) we put ads in the paper, also got an article written about us in the local rag, put flyers up in vets, feed stores, anywhere we thought people and whippets would see it. I even put posts up here on DOL. We were absolutely amazed how many people turned up to our first fun day, before we'd even become a club. I think we had well over 100 people. At that day we asked people by way of a form, if they would like to have a racing club, and the rest is history.

I wonder if you changed the status of these pages so people can "like" them. you could also then put up photos to get more attention. People love photos. If the pages can be liked I'll like them on behalf of our little club, the Yarra Valley Whippet Social Racing Club. Our facebook page here.My link You'd be amazed how many people have found out about us since we created a facebook page and started posting photos.

Birth Announcement! Imp 375 From Gras Last Week
Kirislin replied to JaneyA's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Elly is such a pretty girl. If her puppies grow up to look like her they'll be little beauties. -
I hope you can catch him and take him to a vet. Birds often die slow painful deaths from fish hooks and lines.

sometimes I think one of my whippets can be sort of mean and spiteful to his brother, but I suppose it's me putting human behaviours on something he does that he's worked out gets him what he wants.

I just checked the puppy listings Affenpinscher Puppies (3) Afghan Hound Puppies (3) Airedale Terrier Puppies (2) Akita Puppies (9) Akita (Japanese) Puppies (0) Alaskan Malamute Puppies (8) American Staffordshire Terrier Puppies (20) Anatolian Shepherd Dog Puppies (2) Australian Cattle Dog Puppies (16) Australian Kelpie Puppies (5) Australian Shepherd Puppies (16) Australian Silky Terrier Puppies (5) Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog Puppies (5) Australian Terrier Puppies (8) Azawakh Puppies (0) Where? do you find an American bulldog? Just to be absolutely sure I phoned there are no such breed in australia or is it the new term for an even taller APB? They're definitely around, the president of the club used to live in my town. I dont know if he's still here but I looked up the club page this morning. It looks a bit dated now so not sure what is happening with it. I found some of the pigging photos quite disturbing as they looked like they might have been attacking the pigs in an enclosed area, I could see a mesh fence just behind the pig, although I couldn't be 100% sure if there was an escape for the pig.

I think some dog breeds are defintely prone to aggression. A few years ago a group of American Bulldog owners used to have get togethers at our local park. It was absolutely terrifying to go there on those days, but we never knew before hand when they'd be on. Every dog used to be tied up away from every other dog, because if they got within reach of them, they'd attack. I was always frightened they'd get loose because they'd be lunging and growling at each other from a distance. I never took my dogs anywhere near them once I realised how aggressive they were.

Any Ideas? Progressive Paralysis In Puppy
Kirislin replied to Kirislin's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I looked that up, from what's been described to me, it sounds very much like what he's got. I've emailed his owners the page I read. there is a DNA test, a cheek swab is needed, but you have to send it to America. Costs $95. If this disease has now appeared in the race bred greyhound, well ......... I really don't want to think about it. I'll pass the information on to them. -

the puppy was robust and healthy until this started. Even now I understand it's eating well and appears happy, just wobbly. -

Any chance she ate macadamias? Moose has had back leg paralysis twice from eating them but recovered in a day. Hope they find a cause Krislin, it sounds very strange . No, I dont think so. There's no trees here and the owners are pretty strict about what they feed. They dont feed anything unusal. If it was my dogs it would be a different story, they eat anything they can. -

just had a very brief scan for this, blindness seems to be one of the sypmtoms, he's not blind. -

I think, although not sure if it was poisoning it wouldn't have gone on for so long, and none of the other puppies are affected. It's very puzzling. -

I've been reading and botulism crossed my mind but I think the puppy hasn't appeared to be sick. He's just getting more and more unsteady. I'm wondering if he has a lesion growing on his spine, although I would have hoped the xrays would pick something like that up. -

I'm 100% sure it's not a tick. We dont have paralysis ticks here. -
some friends of mine have a litter of greyhound puppies and one seems to be partially paralysed. He appeared to be a perfectly healthy puppy until about 10 days ago. Initially they thought he might have had an injury, he wasn't walking properly. They took him to the vet, he's had lots of spinal xrays and the vet cannot find anything. They've kept him separated from the other puppies and kept him quiet but it's getting worse. He's now to the point of losing awareness of what his hind feet are doing. They're very worried and I said I'd do some asking here. I've had a brief look at Wobbler syndrome but it seems to be in older dogs and also causes neck pain. They dont think the puppy is in any pain. I think the pup is around 12 weeks old now. Does anyone have any idea what it might be?

How Old Is Too Old For A Female To Have A Litter?
Kirislin replied to lionqueen's topic in Breeders Community
Pennys (whippet) mother was 9 when she had her. She went on to live until 14 which is a good age for a whippet. Penny herself had her first and only litter when she was 5 1/2. -
another thing I did is to put a card table over the whelping box and a blanket over that so it kept the heat in. If it looked like everyone was getting too warm, I would just lift one side of the blanket to allow some heat to escape.
