  1. If that's in vic, could you PM me the prefix? Are the pups desexed, or do they get a desex voucher? is the BYB giving a desex voucher or desexing first as well? They're not even vaccinating! I have no idea if the reg breeder is offering to pay for desexing, but you seem to be expecting alot. Another thing to consider is registered breeders often have a stud fee to pay, often over $1000 while the BYB usually pays nothing.
  2. I know of a woman who is breeding pedigrees and I think they will sell for $1000 and will have pedigree papers, microchip, vaccination and ongoing lifetime support.
  3. Progressive Retinal Atrophy. http://www.animaleyecare.net/diseases/pra.htm
  4. I dont want to bother them too much so I last rang them 2 days ago. His blood count had risen very slightly. I dont know what the tests mean (something to do with red blood cells I suppose) but she said it had gone from 25 to 27 but needs to be in the 40's
  5. Yay, chookies finally out of the chookhouse. How did the whippies react and which one was the worst behaved? Puck of course was the most interested but you never know for sure how they'll react once the chookies are loose, also for now I wouldn't trust them to be left alone with the chooks in the outdoor enclosure. 6. Whippets are a generally healthy breed but they have problems. Undescended testes, heart murmurs, epilepsy, in the US there's that awful double muscling gene in some lines that I hope hasn't got to Australia, probably quite a few more health issues, they're just the ones that come to mind for now. I have a suspicion that auto immune diseases are creeping in too. They're starting to do alot more health testing on whippets in the US.
  7. I sure hope you can because this very day I am trying to teach my whippets not to want to kill my chickens. It's the first time I've brought the chickens out into the sunshine in their moveable chook tractor and I'm hoping in time they might even be able to free range the backyard.
  8. there's a pinned thread about swimmers, not sure if you've seen it. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/157516-swimmer-pups/
  9. I had this most amazing young man come and chop down 5 dangerous trees from my place yesterday, as well as chop back 2 of the awful neighbours trees. He was very high up the tree when I took this, and I was firmly on the ground. It made me think of the back lighting thread though. IMG_2811dppt by kirislin, on Flickr He was completely at ease up there. He's not even 20, still driving on p plates, this kid will go far. I'd be very proud if I was his mum. 10. thanks everyone. I find it kinda sad that so many of you know what it is and my question was answered so quickly. I haven't spoken to them today, I dont want to bother them, they have alot of their plate at the moment. I was hoping to go back with stories of hope and optimism, but after reading of your experiences I think I'll just keep my mouth shut and let them know I'm thinking of them.
  11. gee, it would have been so much easier for them if someone had invented photoshop back then
  12. I dont understand what all the scribble means. Is it something to do with how much exposure he gives each part of the photo?
  13. Yeah it was funny, they gave him a different name and a bloke did the voice over with a made up story, but we were all so excited when the ad would come on.
  14. give it a go, the wind one should be easy for you since you take your gang out in the open alot. If you enter they'll send you the box, it's not compulsory to enter anymore briefs and I dont think I have, but it's fun playing around, even if you dont enter. becandcharch had one of her photos used in their advertising campaign, it was even on TV. I dont recall if they actually paid her money but she got a speedlite and something else I think. You just never know what could happen.
  15. I think you are right, that sounds exactly like it. He's been very ill for almost a week now and doesn't seem to be improving. He goes to the vet every morning for a blood test and temperature, and is getting his meds but he just lays there, very tired and weak. I hope he isn't in pain.
  16. the prizes dont seem as spectacular this year, I thought there were more cameras to give away and overseas trips last year. Not that I will be winning anything  but there just doesn't seem to be as much on offer.
  17. Some friends have a dog that is very ill. It's being treated at the vet, and the vet knows what it's got but the owners cannot remember the name, they said it's a long name. I am just curious so I might be able to look it up online. The dog's immune system is attacking the red blood cells. It's not leukemia I know that much. It's being treated with cortisone (I think) and some type of tablets you have to wear gloves to administer so I'm imagining they're pretty high powered, maybe radioactive?? not sure. The dog is very weak and anaemic (sp?) They've been told a blood transfusion is the last resort. Apparently there's not much point because the red blood cells will just be destroyed again. Does anyone know what this might be?
  18. I've just had email confirmation that a box has been reserved for me. :D they start sending them out early Sept.
  19. You're probably right, but I'm guessing right as you were replying I just decided to go with the first one, it's in. I think as long as you enter something you'll get a box. My last years photo wasn't very good at all but they still sent me a box. What was in the box? we dont know yet, you have to submit a photo to find out. It usually contains 5 briefs/challenges.

  21. I agree regarding Persephones photo, it's good, but I find it depressing, and if I had the choice I wont look at it. I've seen roos strung up like that in real life too, it's a terrible slow painful death, and I prefer not to keep seeing a reminder of it. I could just as easily go to the knackery and take a beautifully backlit photo of a horse taking a bullet to the head. It might be technically perfect, but some might find it distressing. I should clarify, I dont think it crossed any boundaries either, but I've seen it twice now and each time it took me by surprise, and as I said, if given the choice, I wont look at it, but it was unavoidable. I appreciate that Pers has put it on a link, thankdyou Persephone for doing that. kja I can assure you, I'm not the type who goes skipping through the daisies expecting to see fairies, I've seen plenty of horror, I know it exists.
  22. it's not cut off, it's when it opens up to allow submissions so you've still got time. I'm thinking of entering one of these pics that I took earlier this year. Which one do you prefer? I know they're not exactly wind, but I'm sure the dogs had a 55 kph wind in their face when they were running that fast, and I think they really just mean they want the brief to convey movement. 5F6A0321dpptcr by kirislin, on Flickr 5F6A0312dpptcr by kirislin, on Flickr IMG_1588dpptc by kirislin, on Flickr IMG_8199dppt cr by kirislin, on Flickr IMG_5632dppc by kirislin, on Flickr IMG_5630dpptc by kirislin, on Flickr

  24. sorry Pers, but I really hate that photo. I'd avoid looking at it if I could
  25. thanks both. It sounds awful.
