from what I've heard European IGs are quite small at birth, anywhere from 90-150gms is about average I think, so our IGs tend to be bigger here and it seems that this line in particular can throw biggies. Widge herself was 270gms at birth and grew to be a normal size for a female, I've seen quite a few bigger than her in the show ring, but I think this boy might go oversize. I have to admit to falling in love with him though, he's a big squishy cuddly boy. I dont want to keep one, but if I happened to keep him it wouldn't matter to me if he grew too large, I'd just train him up to race the whippets and perhaps course him.
-
ahem, no, that was Milton who grew to the size of a small whippet  although he was also desexed quite early which would have contributed to his eventual size.

some friends came to see the puppies last Sunday so we laid them on my bed for everyone to have a prod and a poke of them, and a cuddle too. They were really stressed out by the whole event as you can see. puppies on 14:2:16 by kirislin, on Flickr

Here's little Mystery girl eating Nekos breakfast this morning. She had her first taste of meat 2 days ago but hasn't been given the opportunity to eat it again until today. She loves it!sj4000 SJCAM 012 by kirislin, on Flickr

They're 3 weeks old today, they've been wrestling and growling for about 5 days now. Mystery is eating meat but the other 2 haven't figured it out yet.

Is This Normal Or Do I Have Puppy Prodigies?
Kirislin replied to Kirislin's topic in General Dog Discussion
You didn't know!! You must have been under a rock!! I just went and got myself updated on Nekos thread! I've been doing exams and then moved house during her pregnancy and didn't realise how much it had affected my reading of DOL They are the most gorgeous puppies!! But I swear she was only just one herself! thanks, you must have missed out on alot of DOL! Yes, Neko still seems like a puppy to me too but she was mated on her 4th season so she's been physically ready for a while. She's starting to get playful with Tag and Puck again now and looks quite funny and cute bouncing around chasing them with her great big boobies swinging in the breeze. I know she'll get her gorgeous figure back once those little parasites have stopped sucking her dry though. -

Is This Normal Or Do I Have Puppy Prodigies?

I'm told it's normal. Been so long since I've had puppies here I'd forgotten, thought we had little geniuses. -
Nekos puppies are just over 2 1/2 weeks and are already up on their legs and walking. I dont know if that is normal or if they're early developers. I'm still surprised when I see the boy toddling around up on his legs. 5F6A5409dppt by kirislin, on Flickr

I did this thing called neural stimulation on them. I've no idea if that has anything to do with it, or if they're just normal, I forget how old puppies are when they start walking. They started yesterday and they'll be 2 weeks old on Friday, late at night, they were almost born Saturday morning.

ah well, puppy cuddling is very good therapy. :D

I've got a really sore back and hips at the moment so I'm struggling to take pics and the light is not good in my bedroom where the whelping box is. Neko doesn't like it if I drag it over to the window, poor baby, she thinks all the bad creatures outside will find out she has puppies and come and murder them so it's all a bit hard right now. I know most are blurry but I figure any photos are better than none at all. Yeah, I was surprised they're getting up on their legs already, I cant remember if puppies usually do it so soon or not. As soon as these puppies started to see and hear it totally changed them from little slugs just seeking out mums boobs and crawling on their bellies, they suddenly had the incentive to try to walk. The change was like flicking a light switch, it was amazing to see.

Actually no, the vet told us he deliberately left them in because he believes there's less chance of bleeding. He told us to watch for them. Pers I've just been watching for signs of her feeling unwell. I was a bit worried about infection but she was on AB's for a week and she seems really well in herself.

They're real purty aren't they.

another dog failed by its owners, and a child failed by the adults.

I think she must have passed them without us knowing because over 2 weeks on and she seems fine.

Here's Mystery girl fresh pulled out of her mother, taken while still in the vets surgery. Not a great shot but you can see the colour her nose was 5F6A4936dppt by kirislin, on Flickr and a couple more 5F6A4938dppt by kirislin, on Flickr 5F6A4940dppt by kirislin, on Flickr

Hoping once they're outside running around her colour will be easier to work out. Even her siblings have us curious. We thought they were black, and that is what will have to go on their pedigrees, even Neko has to be called black, and she's not really. The 2 black puppies aren't the same as each other. The girl is a cooler black, the boy is warmer, he has a faint reddish tinge to his coat. I suppose the only way to know for sure is to have them DNA tested and that would just be a waste of money, cause what ever they are we have to call them black when they're registered.

I'm loving the waiting and wondering with this girl, hence me calling her Mystery. IGs have so many colours that cannot be described with the few options given in the limited colour range in the standard. I've seen some beautiful colours that have left me scratching my head, and I think there's even more OS that haven't even come to our shores yet. Pretty sure Tui had to change the colour given on the original pedigree of a dog she imported because the Australian IG standard didn't cover it.

can you get dilute seals?

very hard to show the true colour but she certainly looks blue here 5F6A5211dppt by kirislin, on Flickr
