My dogs mess goes over my fence into my paddock. Doesn't smell, breaks down quickly enough, I'm lucky to have dung beetles here who do a sterling job of burying it.

hmmm I'm not so sure that pet waste would contaminate ground water. I also noticed he mentions you get the valuable nutrients Nitrogen and Phosphorus found in the URINE. He seems to be suggesting the dogs urine goes in there too, how are you supposed to do that?

We aren't allowed to describe them as seal, they'll have to be called Black. I'm pretty sure the girl I'm calling Mystery is a dilute but I dont know if she's really blue, she might be a dilute of seal, but if that is the case she will still just have to be called Blue. These are the only options we have to write on their pedigrees. "Black, blue, cream, fawn, red, white, or any of these colours broken with white. White dogs may be broken with one of these colours." so we cannot call them seal or sable or so many other colours they come in. I've seen so many different shades of fawns, and dilute versions of them as well. I've seen IGs that are almost siamese cat marked with light bodies and darker legs. I've seen bronze coloured IGs, I've seen heavily sabled fawns that are so dark they look almost black, but you'd either have to call them black, which they are not, or fawn, which they dont look like. It's pretty confusing and the standard is very restrictive. Anyone researching colour in IGs would find it impossible. I know of a lady who imported an IG and she had to change the colour on the pedigree because Australia wouldn't allow the correct colour to be recorded. Look back at Arkey when he was born, he looked like a sable fawn to me, at birth but he changed so much to a rich reddish gold. I'm not actually sure what Marcus eventually registered him as, it would have been either red, or fawn. Thats kind of disappointing really. Is there any movements on trying to get the standard less restrictive on colours? Especially if other countries allow them, and the colours aren't harmful in any way? But I suppose that opens a whole can of worms. A breeder I know tried to get other breeders to support a petition she wanted to get going and send to the ANKC which I posted on DOL and facebook and got no interest so she never sent it. Apathy

I agree! I also agree that she's gorgeous

I always like the way you process your photos, they have that lovely dreamy look about them.

He's not taken as such but I always tell him he's got a harem. Lots of women ringing him up multiple times per day. He somehow manages to keep them all happy and none of them have scratched each others eyes out.........yet. they're really starting to grow now, any day, perhaps today, they will pluck up the courage to leave the whelping box and start to explore their world, and then I'm in for a world of pee and poo! They have put a couple of paws on the lino but then step back. I'm trying to leave them alone for a while so Neko can get used to her new abode in peace and quiet. She was a bit unsettled last night, poor darling. Yes he's got lovely green eyes as well as those beautiful hands.

they look like she had them on the lounge room floor. ...............she didn't did she? I especially love the pics of the blue pup across her leg and then sleeping in a milk drunk haze with its mouth open.

Wonderful photos. I wonder how much they weighed at birth

Thanks - I know it's huge - I used to have a pretty good understanding of horse (paint horse) genetics - but know nothing about dogs. Also: Does this have colour have a name? IMG_3467 by Superspanger, on Flickr cant see your photo large cause it's set to private. ruralpug that study only used 25 IGs from the US so it's not complete, although it's a start. I wish they'd ask for samples from dogs around the world. I'd gladly contribute.

this is a pretty good site, but there's so much that is still unknown. I still feel my eyes glaze over when I try to understand this stuff, and I wont pretend I do understand it. but this is a good start. http://www.doggenetics.co.uk/index.htm

and see the big boy is lightening off! I still think the middle pup is dilute (blue) or seal and the boy is dark pigmented, but it is hard to tell what he'll end up as. It doesn't really matter because he has to be recorded as black, there's no other option. Not sure about the girl though, dont know what she'll be recorded as yet, which is why I'm calling her Mystery.

I'll see what I can do. Arkey is doing well, he's on AB's for the pin track infection and it's clearing up, but he'll need to stay on them until the pins are removed. It's a long slow process of healing.

My 3 little beans today 22 days old. 3 little beans by kirislin, on Flickr

Yep, I think I might get Marcus to help me move them tomorrow into the laundry with access to the hallway which is all lino. I'll put a baby gate up so they cannot come into the kitchen but they'll be more involved with the goings on in the house but still be able to have quiet and privacy in the laundry which is quite a big room. They haven't yet got the courage to venture out of the whelping box as yet but once they do it will be easier to clean up all their messes on lino too.
-
I was surprised to discover this morning that the boy already has teeth, canines, molars, those itty bitty ones at the front, the lot!! They're 22 days old today. Looks like the girls aren't far behind him, I could see the molars under the gums. He's such a monster too, he's using his new teeth to full effect on his sisters. Just wait until they gang up on him. Come on sisters! You can do it.
-
she's still not comfortable with them coming too close, and they know it. Sometimes if she's gone outside I show them and they'll have a really quick sniff and then turn their faces away as if to say "we're not allowed to look at them yet"

What Would You Put In A Pet Supplies Shop?
Kirislin replied to Sagittarian's topic in General Dog Discussion
what about a doggy chiropractor or osteopath working from there? I wonder if that would require lots of special licensing or permits. or maybe just a dog masseuse, it might easier, so long as they were still qualified and GOOD -
from what I've heard European IGs are quite small at birth, anywhere from 90-150gms is about average I think, so our IGs tend to be bigger here and it seems that this line in particular can throw biggies. Widge herself was 270gms at birth and grew to be a normal size for a female, I've seen quite a few bigger than her in the show ring, but I think this boy might go oversize. I have to admit to falling in love with him though, he's a big squishy cuddly boy. I dont want to keep one, but if I happened to keep him it wouldn't matter to me if he grew too large, I'd just train him up to race the whippets and perhaps course him.
-
ahem, no, that was Milton who grew to the size of a small whippet  although he was also desexed quite early which would have contributed to his eventual size.

some friends came to see the puppies last Sunday so we laid them on my bed for everyone to have a prod and a poke of them, and a cuddle too. They were really stressed out by the whole event as you can see. puppies on 14:2:16 by kirislin, on Flickr

Here's little Mystery girl eating Nekos breakfast this morning. She had her first taste of meat 2 days ago but hasn't been given the opportunity to eat it again until today. She loves it!sj4000 SJCAM 012 by kirislin, on Flickr

They're 3 weeks old today, they've been wrestling and growling for about 5 days now. Mystery is eating meat but the other 2 haven't figured it out yet.
